Indie Spotlight: Fantasy Romance

*Reposted from Some Like it Hot Group

Indie Author Tara Quan has an addiction for crafting tales with a pinch of spice and a smidgen of kink. Inspired by her travels, The kick-ass heroines and alpha males into exotic contemporary locales, paranormal worlds, and post-apocalyptic futures. Her stories combine romance, suspense, and a fair amount of steam, ultimately ending in an HEA.

The paranormal world of Warlock's Pawn draws on images from ancient mythology and the Arabian Knights.

Determined to reclaim her kingdom, Anora parlays her body to remain at Duncan’s side. From within the Helicon court she spins her web, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Alia is all that stands between her and the throne. Her sister must cease to breathe before the warlock’s affection wanes.

A master tactician, Duncan has no qualms about making Anora his courtesan and Alia his queen. But it is Alia’s eyes that haunt his dreams, and she soon becomes his only weakness. With the perils that haunt the Helicon court, caring for the fey is absolute folly. A warlock’s love is a fatal curse, and Alia’s death will be his undoing.

Indie Spotlight: MC Romance

*Reposted from Some Like it Hot Group

Indie Author Jayne Blue has published a dozen steamy romances featuring MC Bikers, MMA Fighters, Billionaires, and Alpha Males. How does she do it? Jayne is really two sisters, writing together.

With a such a wide range of subgenres, there is a little something for everyone. Although, I don't usually enjoy Motorcycle Club based romances, I was taken with Dex and Ava in the first of seven stand alone romances in the Great Wolves Motorcycle Club series.

I’m a selfish man and it’s time for me to take back what’s mine

Now I’m back. Only two things have kept me sane all these years. I want to hurt the man responsible for sending me to prison and end his hold over the Great Wolves M.C. forever. And I want the feel of Ava’s body beneath mine again. I need to watch the way she surrenders only to me and makes me whole. It’s selfish of me to think Ava would wait for me.

Indie Spotlight: Urban Fantasy Romance

*Reposted from Some Like it Hot Group

What is the difference between Urban Fantasy and Paranormal? Mostly - the setting. Urban settings and cities in a modern context but with paranormal elements. For this week's spotlight, the city is Rome, vampires are the villains, and immortals with origin stories in the ancient world are the heroes.

Monica La Porta's Immortals series begins with The Lost Centurion, the first of nine stand alone romances that feature heroic alpha males and determined, courageous heroines. There is a lot of suspense and adventure mixed in the romance and steam.

Diana knew nothing of the paranormal world until her transformation into a vampling, a newborn vampire entirely reliant for survival upon the distant and seemingly emotionless Centurion, who found her in the throes of changing. Her protector turned her without her consent, but at his untimely death, she becomes the distant and cold immortal’s responsibility.
The entire vampire community is determined to kill Marcus as he protects one of their own. While Marcus and Diana travel the Italian countryside, being chased by their enemies, Marcus must choose between avenging his dead wife or saving Diana from the same vampire who ruined his life.

Indie Spotlight: Horror Romance

*Reposted from Some Like it Hot Group

The post before Halloween cries out for a scary story. But - horror and romance don't normally mix. Joleene Naylor managed with her Amaranthine series. Katalina is a human who runs afoul of vampires and is rescued by vampire hottie, Jorick. There is nothing sparkly about these vampires - they are flat out scary - and the heat between Katalina and Jorick rocks hellfire.

This is definitely a series that needs to be read from the beginning starting with Shades of Gray. (The title isn't a copycat, it was published a full year before FSoG.)

Her heart pounded and a thought, unbidden, appeared in her mind: he was beautiful. His eyes were the color of dark wood, fringed in heavy lashes and framed by thick, dramatic eyebrows that arched ever so slightly. His lips were full and his skin was flawless and pale, like chiseled marble

When Patrick is murdered, Katelina is left with questions. Jorick, one of his so-called friends, has answers of the darkest kind: Patrick was involved with – and betrayed – a coven of vampires; vampires that may now be after Katelina.

The tale is fantastic, but the proof appears in a flash of fangs that Katelina and Jorick only just escape. Taken to a secret mansion, she discovers horror in its halls and learns the truth about her protector. Blood and destruction follow, and leave scars Katelina may never heal from.

The disturbing opener to the Amaranthine series pulls Katelina into darkness that tastes like fear and smells like blood, a world where night is eternal and vampires don’t sparkle.

No cliffy, but it is an addictive series. And, this first book is FREE.

Halloween Flash Fiction

* written for Kiss & Tell Group's Halloween Bash

Prompt: A black-eyed demon saves you during your raid of those poisoned elixir traffickers

Dawn should keep the ghouls deep in their caves. I'd be happier with a flame thrower, but between the weight and the bulk it's not getting through the narrow opening. The stench is unbelievable. Part ghoul and part the poison they've been lacing into the rejuvenation elixir. Ever since it hit the market the little scumbags have been going hungry. They prey on the weak and the sick. Not much of that with the elixir going around.

One hand on my Ruger, the other holding the canister, I follow the stench. Just as I suspected, the still is at the back of the crypt. I pull the lid from the alcohol and start to splash it on the works.

Angels and Demons, pain rips through my butt where a ghoul has latched on. I swing around and smash it into a wall. It drops off, but it's one of many. Why are they out with the crypt so well lit? They should be cowering in a hole. Three more rush me and I drop them with the Ruger. Six more materialize and I've only got two more bullets.

They look odd. Eyes flashing colors. Moving faster than normal for their kind. Fuck me. They've been drinking elixir. I start to run. Pain sears my shoulders. I'm going to die.

Fire bursts around me, the gray light burning red. The little buggers scream and turn to charcoal.

Black eyes, a fanged mouth, horns, and cut body that makes me drool. Demon.

I grab the crimson the hand, "Took you long enough."

Cazix grins, "You owe me dinner and a blow job."

Indie Spotlight: Dark Romance

*Reposted from Some Like it Hot Group

At the core of every romance novel is the quest for the HEA. In dark romances, not all heroines are sweet and plucky, and more than one alpha-male is more of an alpha-hole. A well-done dark romance reminds us that even less than perfect people are worthy of love and can find it.

A.J. Adams aka Storm Chase writes cartel and crime based dark romances that feature - in her words - twisted dark heroes and feminist arse kicking heroines.

Often violent, they are also witty, moving, and unapologetically steamy.

My personal favorite - so far.

Helpless by A.J. Adams

My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I licked you; now you're mine.

Fracas Macintyre has been in and out of trouble all her life but this time it’s worse than ever. In debt to a loan shark, she’s caught up in a war between the Alistairs, nicknamed The Irish Mob, and Belial’s Disciples, England’s nastiest MC. Kidnapped and at the mercy of Caden Winslow, Fracas is convinced that life is going to get very nasty indeed.

Caden Winslow is an ex soldier used to taking care of business. When an Alistair henchman steals his beloved Busa, he simply takes one of theirs hostage and expects a simple trade will solve the problem. However, Caden is about to be pulled into a war.

Warning: This book is a dark romance. It contains explicit scenes of dubious consent, graphic violence and sex. It is for adults only.

Note to USA readers: 'Mob' appears to refer to the UK military and the not the mafia.

Indie Spotlight: Cowboy Romance

*Reposted from Some Like it Hot Group

There is something about a cowboy. Maybe it's the hat. Maybe it's the boots. In a good cowboy romance, it's the rugged self-sufficiency of the alpha male. At least that's the formula for Some Like it Hot Group member, Sarah Curtis's Freight Trained.

And then there's the steam. And a bit of danger and suspense.

I don't deserver you, but damn if I'm not going to keep you anyway.

Tragedy had Coleman Garrison fleeing to the rodeo at the tender age of 17. Years of dedication and an I don't give a f*ck attitude turned him into a champion. Then tragedy changed the course of his life once more.

Buying a ranch on the outskirts of a small town, he planned to spend the rest of his days training horses, removed from society and the temptation of letting anyone close.

And then he saw her.

Tired of substitute teaching and unable to afford to move from her parents home, Abigail O'Neal jumped at the chance to start a new life away from the big city in the small town of Jasper Falls.

Shy and socially awkward, she wanted the chance to be a different version of herself. But breaking out of her shell turned out to be harder than she thought.

Until she met him.

Who knew Abby's resemblance to a dead woman would make her the target of someone's sinister deeds.

Can a hardened cowboy and a shy little mouse beat the odds, preventing tragedy from striking again?

Indie Spotlight: BDSM Romance

*Reposted from Some Like it Hot Group

There is a lot of speculation about the enduring popularity of BDSM Romance among mainstream readers. Personally, I think that it is the intensity of the relationships as much as the super hot adult content. Although not essential, throw in life among the super wealthy and romantic, exotic locations and it's a total winner.

At least when it is well written and fellow Some Like it Hot Group member, Jillian Verne's Master of Order series is extremely well written. These are true romances with heroes, heroines, villains, melodrama and a satisfying HEA - the kinky adult content is all consensual.

Each novel is standalone and they can be read in any order.

Indie Spotlight: Regency Romance

*reposted from Some Like it Hot Group

Historical romance in general, and Regency Romance in particular, have long been a staple of the genre. Who doesn't like a virtuous and feisty heroine overcoming adversity to be carried off to a castle by a dashing nobleman. Preferably a Duke?

In a lovely spin on the trope, the Duke was bounder and his very noble brother-in-law stuck with cleaning up the mess. Throw in a little Christmas magic, and a heroine who does more rescuing than being rescued, and you have A Dangerous Nativity by Caroline Warfield.

Although the steam factor is low, the charm and true love factor is high in this little novella and its full-length companions The Dangerous Works series.

The Earl of Chadbourn loves nothing better than to care for his fields, his flocks, and the people who earn their living from the land. Trapped by his brother-in-law’s death into responsibility for his traumatized nephew, grieving sister, and an estate gone to ruin, loneliness overwhelms him. The first-rate husbandry of a neighboring farm and the woman who runs it draw him like a moth to flame. With Christmas coming, can he repair the damaged estate and far more damaged family? Dare he hope for love in the bargain?

Catherine Wheatly is content to manage Songbird Cottage and care for her father and brothers. She has long since accepted that marriage and a home of her own are not in her future. She is content—until an interfering earl descends on Songbird determined to unearth their secrets and upend her world.

Fair warning - although this novella is available on multiple platforms, the subsequent novels are kindle only.
