Hero Dog Story From Michael, Age 5: Dog Saves Owner

Hero dog story from Michael

Hero dog story from Michael

Hero dog stories are Michael’s favorite stories. In this video, Michael, co-author of “Bash and Lucy Fetch Confidence,” relates the story of Bear, a mastiff mix who saved his owner, a retired policewoman, from a fire. He woke her up at 5 a.m. by jumping on her bed. The owner and her 9-year-old grandson escaped the fire, thanks to Bear.

Watch the video here:

The dog had just been adopted by retired New York police detective Carolyn Swinson. She took him to church to thank him for what he had done.

If you’re interested in other hero dog stories, you can also watch this video from Michael:

Michael thinks the dog in his book, “Bash And Lucy Fetch Confidence” is also a hero. She doesn’t save anyone, but she teaches the kids on a boys’ soccer team lots of lessons–about sports, teamwork–and life. The book will be available in early September on this website.

In the meantime, be sure to watch the video trailer:

With our book, blog, and hero dog stories, we hope to instill in kids a love of dogs–and dog books!

New Puppy Tips for Kids: When Your Dog Barks While You’re Taking A Bath

New Puppy Tips For Kids: What To Do When Your Puppy Barks While You’re Taking A Bath

New Puppy Tips for Kids: What To Do When Your Dog Barks While You’re Taking a Bath

Michael, chief vlogger at “Michael’s Dog Blog,” thinks it’s very important for kids with new puppies to  know what to do when your new puppy barks while you’re taking a bath. This was a problem when his puppy, Hudson, was young. He’s excited about sharing his new puppy tips with other kids.

Watch the video here:

Michael didn’t want to punish his pup. Instead, his strategy was to be nice to Hudson and try to do things that would make Hudson feel comfortable next to the bathtub. So he gave him chews to distract him. Michael wanted Hudson to learn that he (Michael) would not get out of the bath because Hudson was barking. After a week or so, Hudson stopped barking while Michael was in the bathtub.

Be nice, don’t give in, distract the dog with chews or toys. That’s what Michael says you should do when your dog barks while you’re taking a bath.

If you’re a dog trainer, tell us what you think about Michael’s strategy!

Be sure to check out the video trailer for Michael’s book, “Bash And Lucy Fetch Confidence.” If you like watching puppies and kids, you’ll love it!

Book Reviews By Kids: We Honestly Can Look After Your Dog

Book Reviews By Kids: Michael and Mia Review “We Honestly Can Look After Your Dog.”

Book Reviews By Kids:

Book Reviews By Kids: We Honestly Can Look After Your Dog

Michael, co-author of the dog picture book, “Bash and Lucy Fetch Confidence,” along with his friend, Mia, who is 13, review the Charlie and Lola book, “We Honestly Can Look After Your Dog.”

We hope to inspire young readers with Michael’s and Mia’s enthusiasm for books and with our book reviews by kids, age 5 to 13.

Watch the video here:

Michael loves to do book reviews–especially of dog picture books! And he loves to do kids’ book reviews with his friend Mia.

Michael  especially likes this book because it teaches kids what NOT to do when you’re walking a dog. However, Lola accidentally does what she isn’t supposed to do. Watch the video to learn more!

Even better, the book is funny, like most Charlie and Lola books, says Michael.

Michael hopes that young readers will think his dog picture book is also funny. It’s about a chatty boy, Bash, (who looks like Michael) and his wise but mischievous Golden Retriever, Lucy. The pair teach a kids’ sports team about teamwork, confidence–and life! But the team encounters a few challenges along the way.

Be sure to follow Michael’s Dog Blog for more kids’ book reviews, plus fun dog facts for kids, dog heroism stories, and tales of Michael’s adventures raising his dog, Hudson. You can enter your email in the box on the left.

Here’s a review of our book, “Bash and Lucy Fetch Confidence:”

“Bash and Lucy Fetch Confidence” is a wonderful story that teaches kids and their families about the important relationships we can have with dogs and illustrates beautifully how there can be more than one way to do something… and that the best way isn’t always the obvious way! It promotes relationships above results and creative thinking above the status quo. A great read for any dog-lovers!

Dog Info for Kids: Dogs Need a Life Vest

Dog Info for Kids

Dog Info for Kids: Dogs Need a Life Vest

People often assume that dogs–especially Golden Retrievers and Labs–are natural swimmers. That’s not true, says Julie, who trains dogs to swim and provides hydrotherapy for them. In this video, she says that about 10,000 dogs drown a year.

Watch the video here:

We can help prevent dogs from drowning by ensuring they wear life vests (like the one Hudson is wearing in this video) when they’re close to water. We can also help prevent drowning by spreading this dog info for kids about the risks to our friends and family members.

“Only about 20 percent of the dogs I work with know how to swim,” says Julie. “Most dogs flail,” she says, and some people mis-interpret that for dog paddling. Many dogs don’t know how to use their back legs, she says.

Julie gets calls about twice a month from people asking for help with their dog, who became very scared after their owners threw them in a pool, thinking they could swim. She works with the dogs to help calm their fears about water.

Be sure to have fun with your dogs. But also be sure they’re safe!
