Pet Blogger Blooper Roundup for October and Friendly Fill-Ins

We have been having a lot of fun this year sharing She of Little Talent's awful photos on the Pet Blogger Bloopers Roundup, a blog hop hosted the second Friday of every month by The Lazy Pit Bull. (Finally, a pet blogging event celebrating pure ineptitude—old SoLT has been waiting her whole life for this!)

This month, we have bloopers from Real Cat Paisley and Resident Dog Layla. Old SoLT was

National Fossil Day: The Big Cats of Pleistocene Park

Today, October 12, 2016, is National Fossil Day™, an effort by the National Park Service to promote public
awareness of fossils and to highlight fossils’ scientific value. This year’s
theme is “Pleistocene life and landscapes.” Imagine, if you will, a place
called Pleistocene Park covering all of North America. We think this would be
way better than that old Jurassic thingamabob, because

Cat of the Week: Daisy in Westhampton, NY

Each week in this space, we feature a senior cat in need of
adoption or sponsorship. Please remember all the older cats in shelters. They
make great companions, and unlike kittens, they (probably) won’t climb the
curtains! Adopt a senior cat, and help him or her enjoy the best years of their
life.

Book Review: Why Kimba Saved the World

Today on Mysterious Monday, we are pleased to bring you
something that is not a mystery—exactly. Why
Kimba Saved the World is instead a sci-fi/fantasy tale meant for
middle-grade readers. This book by Meg Dendler is the first in the Cats in the
Mirror series, and it is an award winner, earning a Moonbeam award for Best
First Book—Chapter Book. When we received this book, we had the feeling

Caturday Art: Zombie Cat

It's time once again for one of our favorite things, Athena's Caturday Art blog hop. This being ghoul and goblin season, old SoLT went for something creepy, starting with a photo of Black Cat Jack. She started in Photoshop with a Solarize filter. Then in PicMonkey, she gravitated toward the Zombie theme, where she added a Crackle effect and zombie eyes. Next came the fangs (from the Vampire theme

App Review: Kitten Sanctuary, and Friendly Fill-Ins for October 7

App Review: Kitten Sanctuary

Ever since old SoLT got her first Kindle Fire nearly five
years ago, she has been convinced that there are few things in life better than
a really good match-three game. She's since moved on to an iPad, but her love of match-three continues. Those of you who are addicted to these games
will know what I mean. Just one more
level, and then I’ll sleep… If this is

The Cat Witch of Okabe: A Tale from Japan

An old witch takes the form of a giant catto waylay young women visiting the shrine.Print by Utagawa Kuniyoshi, ca. 1845Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons..

Our subject today is shape-shifting demon cats in Japanese
folklore and kabuki theater. We’re going back to 19th-century Japan, where
these sorts of weird cat stories were not uncommon. Enjoy.

Cat of the Week: Sophie in Baltimore

Each week in this space, we feature a senior cat in need of adoption or sponsorship. Please remember all the older cats in shelters. They make great companions, and unlike kittens, they (probably) won’t climb the curtains! Adopt a senior cat, and help him or her enjoy the best years of their life.

This week, say hello to Sophie, a shy 10-year-old who is declawed on her front paws. Sophie is a

Book Review: Two Tall Tails

Today we have the pleasure of reviewing novellas from two of
our favorite cat cozy mystery series: Sofie Kelly’s “The Cat Burglar” (Magical
Cats series) and Sofie Ryan’s “No More Pussyfooting Around” (Second Chance Cat
series). The stories are conveniently packaged together in one book called Two Tall Tails. Completely uncoincidentally, the two Sofies are also conveniently packaged together in

Caturday Art: A Paisley Autumn

Today we are joining Athena's Caturday Art blog hop. A little taste of fall has finally arrived in our corner of Maryland, so we feel like we can finally do some autumn-themed art. (I tried to work a third "finally" into that last sentence, but I just couldn't do it. Let's just say it seems like we've been waiting for autumn weather for a very long time!)

This week, old SoLT started with a
