Am I Available for Writing Assignments? Yes I Am, This is What I do.

Yes, I'm always available for writing assignments. One of the many questions I get asked as a writer is, "How long have you been writing?" Somewhere around 1990-1991 is when I began the first draft of Love Don't Live Here, and around 1992 I penned a few short stories for a prison newspaper called The Five Percenter.

My writing educational credentials are as follows; in 2006 I attended a Creative Writers Workshop at the Great South Bay 'YMCA', and in the same year I attended Gotham's Writers Workshop in Manhanttan for level 1 screenplay writing. In 2009-2010 I received writer mentorship/instruction for eleven months.

As publisher for Third Eye Publishing I drafted the synopsis's of authors signed to the company, and since then I've gone on to write press releases, professional bios, marketing sheets, word copy and design social network pages, as well as pen magazine articles, and of course several of my own books.

Most of my work for hire has come from word of mouth of colleagues because, I do not advertise sense I'm not in competitive mode. Writing is something I do, and will do until I leave this planet. The business of writing is just part of what I've learned through the writing experience.

Therone Shellman, Author, Motivational Speaker & Civil Servant

Fund the development of award winning authors new title 'One Good Man' which deals with single parenting, family and a male taking responsibility for his child.

Greetings, My name is Therone Shellman and I'm an award winning author, as well as motivational speaker, self publishing consultant, and journalist. All of my works (writings) in one way or another have to do with educating and uplifting people, and from books to magazine articles my writings can be found. Social issues aren't confined to one race, they affect us all in some way or another and find their way to our neighborhood and sometimes doorstep.

Go Here to Fund This Campaign http://igg.me/at/theroneshellman/x/53...

As a teen reading had become my escape, and by the time I was fifteen years old I dreamed about being able to write books which would educate children and parents. Books which would be down to earth, easy to read and understand, but yet be useful. At the age of eighteen (18) during the year of 1990 I would begin the first draft of my first novel 'Love Don't Live Here.'

I'm currently within the second draft stages of a new novel 'One Good Man' which I'm really excited about because, this stories needs to be told and is happening across America and the world, but rarely spoken of. I currently have self-published six titles, three of which have won awards. Love Don't Live Here (revised edition) dealt with the plight of two young women who become single mothers. This book deals with the plight of an early twenty something year old. I've come to be known for writing deep, thought provoking stories which are true to life. For this work I've spent countless hours of research learning about Family Court procedures, etc.

The campaign is important to me becaus today I see alot of men striving to be fathers regardless of the situation with the mothers, but there still are alot of men not taking care of their responsibility. My novels shed light on issues, educate and hopefully inspire people to think past what they've learned or know.

Contributing to this campaign and my work(s) is no less than personally taking part in what I do as a writer. And I have a body (six titles) to show and prove what I stand for.

What We Need & What You Get

Break it down for folks in more detail:

This campaign is seeking $5,000 and the funding is going to pay for editors, book cover(s) graphic design, book video trailor(s), and the first print run.

The fun part is the perks which I will be giving:

$10&$50 will have their name added to the dedication page and receive one (1) signed copy of 'One Good Man.'

$100&$400 will have their name added to the dedication page, receive one (1) signed copy of 'One Good Man', and personal handwritten letter thanking the contributor.

$500&$1,000 will have their name added to the dedication page, receive (2) signed copies of 'One Good Man', a personal handwritter letter thanking the contributor, along with one (1) signed copy of Love Don't Live Here (revised edition), No Love Lost, Survivor I Changed the Rules Pt. 1 (autobiography), All You Need to Know to Become An Entrepreneur, Third Eye Awakening and The Secrets of Self Publishing 2.

If the goal of $5,000 isn't reached whatever is raised will still go to the producing of 'One Good Man.' I write this is what I do, so be rest assured your investment and time will not be wasted.

The Impact

If you would like to know what value your contribution will be making let me let some of the reviews from amazon in regards to my past works tell you.

Third Eye Awakening:

A good account of spiritual awakening

By SEN Books on January 3, 2013

Format: Kindle Edition

In this book, the author conveys his spiritual journey from the life of crime to achieving inner peace by recognizing God within. Mind you, the author does not believe in organized religion. His line of thinking can apply to everybody regardless of their beliefs or religion. His self discovery leads him to come to the conclusion that he does not have to look elsewhere to achieve love, peace, happiness or success, because all this is within him. This may not sound new to most of us but we did not have the same experiences that he hid when he was young. He also goes through the different levels of self discovery which helped him to get to the highest level of inner peace. I assume it takes a lot of discipline and practice to get to the that level. Some of it seems too much to live up to, but there is truth in what he writes. This is a personal account and may not be for everyone but I upload any methodology that helps people elevate themselves to be better. If you are conflicted in life and don't know what to do, this may be a great reference for you.

Love Don't Live Here (revised edition)

The hard truths of Love Don't Live here

By Dr. Codling on October 7, 2006

Format: Paperback

Therone Shellman offers a badly needed male insight into the world of single, Black mothers. So many female voices have soared, in previous years, above cries of the males. Mr. Shellman provides the male voice and opportunity. Terry McMillan and Toni Morrison have stated their cases (on this subject) in the past years without much opposition. Mr. Shellman is making a claim to stating a case that will become more credible and sophisticated as he writes in the future.

I am looking forward to offering this book to middle and secondary school pupils that require books that deal with the reality of their urban lives.Mr. Shellman uses dialogue well and assumes the full female 'persona' in a way that is intriguing and haunting. I liked his incorporation of history into his text to enhance the raw reality of the events. As a teacher, this will serve as a good tool for making lessons far more relative to to current times. We (the readers) look forward to gaining more objectivity and insight as this writer progresses over the years.Dr. Codling

The 'Starving Artist' or 'Learning Artist?' The Path to Becoming a Writer

The 'Starving Artist' or 'Learning Artist?' The Path to Becoming a Writer

Therone Shellman 11/05/13

Yesterday I was speaking to a gentleman in regards to the idea of the term "Starving Artist."

I told him my honest thoughts and experience from what I've seen in the publishing world. This can be applied to all the arts.

So much enthesus is placed on success in the monetary $$ sense, that it drives people to cheat and do anything to get to where they consider success to be. For the most part the writers who have carved their names into history are those who have taken the painstaking task of learning words, language and story telling.

People ask me about self publishing, and I always stress to take writing classes. Can you write a few books and make a lot of money without really learning the fundamentals of writing? Yes. Can you expect to be around 10-15-20 years or a lifetime? No, hire other writers to write for you.

My question to a few aspiring writers has been, "Do you want to be one of them individuals who builds an audience, but because you didn't take writing seriously you now have to buy stories, hire writers to do rewrites for you, and maybe even do more to keep an audience? There is always going to be the pressure to keep putting out good work, one after the next. People expect no less, and they shouldn't. Is that the pressure you want to deal with knowing that you yourself don't have it in you? You want to know what drives some artists to drink and drug? Read some of their biographies. Or better yet watch some of the countless movies about the past lives of many public figures.

It may take you 5-10 years or maybe less to learn the Craft of Writing and be able to get your vision across effectively. Be mindful and prepared because it never ends. This is school, this is learning, this is a sacrifice which you have no choice but to undertake. Well, this is if you're serious about writing and being a writer. Or you can be like the millions of others who say, "I can write a book, and many do." Just because, one writes a book(s) doesn't make them a writer. It sounds messed up to say, but ask a literary agent and let them tell you their thoughts. I bet you they will agree.

Early on in my career I was allowed the opportunity to witness what many consider success in this industry. Once I got there, my eyes opened and I realized that I was not upon the path I visioned for my literary career. I was within the realms of more egoes and bravodo then Writers. Everything happens for a reason though, and I would be faced with some business issues but also an opportunity to take a step back and refocus. Talent is overrated, and I say this in my own case. It wasn't until my fourth book "Survivor I Changed the Rules Pt. 1" when I started to really look at writing and the overall process seriously. I decided that I was going to become a writer first and then partake in the business of writing and making money. Writing and Learning the fundamentals of writing is what I've been doing the last four years.

When I speak to aspiring writers I can only speak from experience. Learn writing, and then the business of writing. When you become a very good writer, there will always be an opportunity to make money. We live in a different world then the writers of the earlier century. First become a writer, even if it means you will have to wash dishes, be a janitor, or do some lousy job which makes you sick to your stomach to think about. The fact is you'll need to dedicate countless hours to writing and learning what to write. What does the aspiring actor do? What does the aspiring music artist do? Writers have a little more of an advantage though because, via self publishing we can create our own financial destinies, today or tomorrow. But first become a writer.

Every Author Must Explore Their Own Voice of Reason (OOSA Online Bookclub Therone Shellman "Open Mic"

I think one of the hardest things an author can do is not be swayed by stereotypes or the norm. Since the first day of the release of “Love Don't Live Here” (revised edition) in 2005, in the back of my mind, I've always felt that I was caught up in the middle of a case of mistaken identity.

I laugh now when I think of how I would send off the press kit for “Love Don't Live Here” and people would assume I was a woman. This is what had become of the state of black literature? Here it is a story about the lives of two young black women who become single mothers striving to raise their sons to become productive men and black women reviewers and professionals in the industry assume that only a woman would or could write this story. But I also took note that the days of Langston Hughes, Alex Baldwin, Richard Wright, J.A. Rogers and the like had long been gone for decades. Now it was the era of black men writing about the streets and the lives they've lived or came from.

Being raised within the 5 Percent Nation, as a teen, my rough street upbringing was overshadowed by the teachings of world history, psychology, sociology and self empowerment, which was instilled in me from the Nation. So I was a much different person than the average black male my age, and so I was also a much different writer than other writers.

My second title, “No Love Lost,” would take one further down the road of where I stood in regards to my knowledge of what was happening and why the things that do happen in urban neighborhoods do. It wasn't enough for me to just state the obvious - that crime is rampant and many have no hope. I needed to point out that at the end of the day each individual is responsible for their own choices.

To further my point of self responsibility, I wrote my autobiography, “Survivor I Changed the Rules Part 1.” The work is far from being bravado, but instead a clear statement of individuality, evolving as a human and finding purpose. It's ironic how as a person evolving I walked down the same roads I would later see that a writer needs to. A writer needs to find their own voice, no matter the obstacles or the people who stand in their way.

Today I'm at another level in my writing. I've moved past the debates or need to prove anything. In fact, the argument over urban lit or social responsibility is old to me. I have a body of work, and thousands of book sales to speak my points clearly.

My latest title, “All You Need to Know to Become an Entrepreneur,” again takes one down the road of self responsibility and a need to add on to the greater good. Entrepreneurship is a collective effort, although it may be initiated by one individual.

The greatest challenge any writer will face is if they have the gall to walk into the wilderness of their mind to find out what makes them, then express those ideas to the world. If they do anything else, they are just cloning someone else. There is a reason the Creator only makes one of each human.

Therone Shellman is a writer whose works are nothing less than social statements. He is the author of “Love Don't Live Here” (revised edition), “No Love Lost,” “The Secrets of Self Publishing 2,” “Survivor I Changed the Rules Part 1, "All You Need to know to Become An Entrepreneur",” and his latest work “Third Eye Awakening." Third Eye Awakening

Third Eye Awakening

By: Therone Shellman 10/19/2013

People wonder what Third Eye Awakening means.

• Does it imply the awakening of one’s mind?

• Can it mean one coming in touch with their spiritual self?

To be perfectly honest it means both of the above. The mind is a tool which we utilize to connect us to our spiritual self’s and Infinite Conscious “the Creator.” The Creator also utilizes the Mind as a vehicle to experience the physical realms. And we are the lucky drivers who get to see and experience all which is shown via dreams, and while awake upon our feet.

The Truth

Have you ever wondered about Life and Death, Heaven and Hell and where do we stand as humans within all of this? Well, let’s take a journey back to Junior High school science class. Remember learning that energy cannot be created or destroyed and that it transforms itself from one stage to another? Oh yes! Now this brings many questions in regards to what we’re being taught to think via the media and an even religious teacher doesn’t it? In the above context of energy never dying is there really such a reality as death? Of course not. So what is life? Life is a process which all matter undertakes. I know you remember in class, how the teacher spoke of one cell organisms. Over time other organisms of more cells began to develop, and within this process intelligence in such species and life forms began to manifest itself at greater levels. This explains the levels of life, from mineral, plant, animal and to the human form (body) intelligence has housed itself within, and also shown itself more and more in the physical realms through the labor of humans creating.

The first duty of all those who seek truth is to discipline their thoughts.

You must welcome all good and discard the idea of negative thinking. Your mind must also be guarded against the intrusion or invasion of others thinking. By mastering oneself, one masters the world outside.

Your thoughts and actions can either serve to imprison you, or liberate you with the greater cause and eternal truth.

We are set free or chained by our thoughts. The right thoughts can serve to build you up into divinity; by abusive thoughts we fall to the level of animal nature.

Man is the master of his own fate. This is so even in the weakest condition. He can abuse his mind and body and be of poor condition. Even so, he is still the master of his own fate.

Unfortunately, man makes foolish decisions that only serve to cause them more harm when they’re in the weakest moments. When man comes to understand the rules that govern thought he can meditate upon such types of thinking and apply these laws to his benefit.

Each soul beholds its own life and individuality, yet is connected to one eternal truth. By digging deep into ones consciousness an individual will stumble upon all truth attached to their being. Through patience and diligent search one will be enriched with the understanding of themselves and walk upon the threshold of the temple of Eternal truth.

Love for the material, small attitudes and the lust for wealth, worldly power diminish a man’s ability to reach greatness. For it’s not in emotions and possessions that a man’s greatness is found, but it is within his beliefs, virtues and duty to the Creator, nature and fellow man that a man goes about his labor in a great way. And through this doing greatness is achieved. When men come together under such union, there is nothing that cannot be accomplished for the good of all human families. While it is also man’s dabbling in excessive emotions and the desire to possess that of the world which has crumbled some of man’s greatest achievements.

3 out of 4 stars [Following is the official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Survivor I Changed the Rules" by Therone Shellman.]

Official Review: Survivor I Changed the Rules

Post Number:#1 by Neleh403 » 11 Oct 2013, 09:16

[Following is the official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Survivor I Changed the Rules" by Therone Shellman.]

Thought provoking, infuriating, insightful, blunt, passionate and inspiring.

These are the words that came to mind once I had finished reading “Survivor” I Changed the Rules by Therone Shellman.

This book is an autobiography by Therone. He tells us how it was growing up in Long Island, New York. His mother’s failure to cope with her four children and what it was like in New York foster care system. Desperately trying to be a man in a child’s body, having to grow up before his time, and his love for his siblings and mother, the beginning of the book tells us how tough life can be. Therone goes on to tell the reader how to make a quick buck he got involved in the criminal aspect of New York. From dealing drugs then onto mugging people (mainly other dealers) and eventually armed robbery. He joined an organization called the five-percenters who lived by a certain code and set of rules. Eventually the life of crime that he lived ended up in his incarceration for armed robbery. Here he was transferred from prison to prison, always with a story to tell. The conclusion to his autobiography was not quite the fairy tale ending that we all hope for but this was real life, but all the same his attitude and passion for learning eventually got him the life he deserves.

I feel that I need to explain my first six words and why these came to mind when I had finished the book.

1. Thought provoking. Sometimes people don’t realize what they have. When reading this book it made me understand how precious life can be, and that living it is one of the most important lessons that can be learnt.

2. Infuriating. A good portion of this book made me mad. How can an intelligent, caring individual do the deeds that he did. Not just once or out of an act of desperation but to make money. He called himself a capitalist. At some points during this book I thought he was a drug dealing scumbag. 3. Insightful. Opened my eyes to the plight of others, the book was very descriptive both of the streets of New York and the prisons.

4. Blunt. No fancy wording, it was told as it was.

5. Passionate. You can tell by his story just how passionate Therone felt about not just his mother and siblings but also about how he was living his life, be it good or bad.

6. Inspiring. Perhaps this book could help young people who are living the life that Therone had lived. Showing them that no matter how bad things can get, there is always an alternative.

I will give this book 3 out of 4 stars. I would love to give it 4 but as I read at night (most of the time) and because some of the book did really make me mad I sometimes found sleep hard to get. I wish Therone well and look forward to the sequel. I will just make sure I don’t read it before sleep!!

“The Illegal Drug Trade & Street Economy is a Big Part of the American Economy”

“The Illegal Drug Trade & Street Economy is a Big Part of the American Economy”
By: Therone Shellman 10/07/2013

As a teen I remember watching President Ronald Reagan on the news giving a conference in regards to a large cocaine bust of several kilograms, along with a huge sum of money which were seized by federal agents. He was jokingly mentioning in not so exact words but very similar, "There are those wondering where the money is going come from to pay the U.S. Deficit?" In other words his statement was basically an acknowledgement the illegal drug trade is great for the American economy. (Part of this news clip can be viewed within the video documentary of The Alpo Story from the Street Stars Collection. Alpo was a infamous Harlem, NY dealer during this time).

Miraculously years later while still in the midst of a prosperous crack-cocaine era the U.S. deficit did diminish. Along with it middle class America flourished. The mid 1980`s to the late 1990`s were very good times for the American economy. After the recession of 1980 by the time 1983 rolled in the economy rebounded and had begun to grow tremendously.

The money earned in the streets went to purchasing cars, jewelry, clothes, homes, and was also spent within local businesses. Some even went on to become legal business owners, and college graduates. The motel and hotel industry witnessed a big boom in growth because; quietly as kept drugs and prostitution is a big part of that business.

On the flipside the increase in crime justified the hiring of police officers, the construction of prisons, the hiring of correctional officers, sheriffs, and other jail and prison staff, as well as court staff. Inner-cities became urban war zones which fueled the need for more hospitals, nurses, doctors, EMT workers and other staff. Every village, town, county, city, and State has its own criminal justice system which provides at the least hundreds of jobs.

Due to the Rockefeller and mandatory minimum sentencing laws the system which was created by the drug trade had begun to negatively reverse the economic progress created by the drug trade.

According to drugwarfacts.org 1/3 of prisoners incarcerated were drug offenders (2011).The price of the drug increased within the wholesale market because of the crack down on the U.S. boarders, cartels and the lengthy prison sentences in the U.S. This in turn drove down the quality due to it being stepped on with every hand it touched until it reached U.S. inner-cities. Ultimately by the year 2010 users who preferred the drug (crack-cocaine) because of poor quality would begin to move on to other drugs like marijuana, pills (designer drugs) and even heroine is seeing a comeback. All of these drugs can be purchased on the street market of even suburbs at a cheaper price than crack-cocaine.

It`s hard to imagine the effects the drug would have on the economy as a whole. Any economist would have to honestly agree that a great part of the United States recession can be attributed to the recession in the street drug trade.

What`s the use of presenting an issue if not to deal with both sides, the problem and solution?

U.S. District Attorney, Eric Holder has begun championing the cause to remove mandatory minimum sentencing in regards to drug offenses. This in many ways will boost the economy by having more people out in society. Whether they are living a life of crime or employed lawfully, the money from their spending will be funneled into the economy in the form of taxes, purchased goods, and other items such as homes.

Let’s be honest, alcohol and cigarettes are drugs. Store owners of establishments who sell these products aren`t looked at as murderers, even though many people die daily due to related complications of the use of both.

The right to privacy is a constitutional law and no one has the right to regulate what a person chooses to do with their mind or body. Drug dealing amongst adults is a victimless crime. No one is forcing an adult to consume any illegal drug, just as no one is forcing them to go to liquor stores to buy booze, or the convenience store to purchase cigarettes.

Never overly concern yourself with failure. If ...

Never overly concern yourself with failure. If you trip and stumble then pick yourself up and keep going.

Failures for the thinking and doing individual are but temporary, even if temporary failure is revisited more than once. Success is a thinking and doing man’s/woman’s reward. Sooner or later the road will be paved and a path created from all the trekking and hard work.

Be a willing student, for those who seek must also be willing to learn. Knowledge, wisdom and understanding are but tools built from sacrifice, study and life experience. The glory of your work and accomplishments will show as proof to your virtue and dedication to knocking on the Creators door to serve.

All that you experience you’ll walk with for the rest of your life. Every time you move past an obstacle, win a victory, lose a battle, fall and stumble your subconscious records for you to remember. It is from this point that you become that which you think about most. If you see yourself as failing, then you in turn welcome failure as an ultimate destination point you and all of who you are. Your whole existence will be a failure because this is what you believe yourself to be. Now if you believe that ultimately your temporary failures build a path to success then you affirm that good because you’re of good is yours to have. It’s just the process of learning and doing that, which will bring it to you permanently.

If you seek success, wealth and prosperity and wish to not give up individuality and personality all that you gain today will ultimately be lost in the days to come. That which is not built in love has no foundation. All houses built from the top to bottom shall surely crumble. Our Creator is Love and all things sought and built through him are possible. While the man dwelling in self-love may acquire through mortal mind that which he acquires he cannot keep for all things built with emotions are unstable. It is only through the Creators understanding that creations and services serve unselfishly within his plan and that of all fellow humans, animals and nature.

“Who I am today has everything to do with who I was yesterday along with past experiences and the knowledge gained through it all. Today I have good thoughts about who I am, and because I think this way about myself my confidence level in regards to what I can do and accomplish is sky high. As a teen and into my twenties consciously I felt I was a young man with a lot of talent and ambition that was a bit powerless because of restrictions I really thought were hindering me from progressing.

1. I was on parole. 2. I didn’t have any real family support. 3. I was a young African American male with a felony.

All these things led me to believe the world was against me in some way. Since my central thoughts focused on the negative I acted this out by selling drugs and committing other crimes. I did all this when it probably would have just took a little more effort to go out and get a job. At twenty-eight years old, I decided to make clean break and change my life. I at once took control of my mind, thoughts and ultimately my actions. Like clockwork, I began to obtain different results, and as a result my self-confidence began building until I came to the point where I was secure with myself, and fixed on the thought that we are what we think.”
