Writer Shop Talk: Post-Launch Depression

newshoptalkIt takes a tremendous amount of willpower, energy, and focus to create something. To take an idea and see it through to fruition, whether it’s a book, a game, or something else. It’s very easy to pour so much of yourself into a creativeproject and the gargantuan task of getting it out into the world that it exertsa sort of symbiotic energy drain on your being. Sometimes once your creative venture is cut loose and set freeinto the world, you’re left with a weird sense of loss. And it can be cr...

Writer Shop Talk: The Catharsis of Personal Essay Writing

newshoptalkWhen you spend years writing about products, trends, culture, andthings, it’s easy to lose touch with the human connection that ties it all together. But that’s what really makes it all interesting, isn’t it?As beings made of meat, water, and thought, we’re naturally drawn towards learningabout others’ experiences, learning from the eventsof their lives, and discovering what makes them tick. I love reading those types of personal stories, but it wasn’t until earlier this year that I discovere...

Coffee Is My Religion (and other new books I have in the works)

coffeeoptionlokinggood1 copyOh hey, it’s been a while! Keeping this update shortish, but I wanted to let folks know that I have a few new books coming out in the near future. This year I wrote manuscripts for about 4-5 book projects — except I never launched them. At least I haven’t yet. I’ve been sitting on those manuscripts while trying out a new venture (indie game development) and getting a new-ishfreelance routine sorted out. It’s been a crazy summer (and now fall) full of challenges, troubleshooting, cautious opti...

So…errr…THAT happened! My apologies for being quiet of late. It’s been a weird summer. I’ve been working on a few book projects, slinging words in the freelance trenches, running my podcast The Freelance Game, and oh yeah, I launched anindie game studio called Touchfight Games. Ugh…What? Yeah.

Our first game, Go To Bed: Survive The Night, is out today on PC (Early Beta) and will also be launching later this month on iOS. It’s a creepy indie horror “bedroom defense” game that’s heavily inspired...
