I'll Remember You by Sable Hunter is Unforgettable

I'll Remember You (Hell Yeah! Book Eleven) I'll Remember You by Sable Hunter
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I'll Remember You by Sable Hunter is Unforgettable

I’ll Remember You, a part of the Ms Hunter’s Hell Yeah Series finally brings Aron McCoy home. Lost at sea and presumed dead by many, it charts the parallel lives of the McCoy’s at Tebow and Aron’s life as Austin in Mexico as he tries to remember who he is. His amnesia wears off but he is drugged so that he forgets.
Temporarily.
This, I think is a magnum opus. Once again, Ms Hunter doesn’t disappoint at bringing tears of joy, laughter, and anguish that dissipates with continued faith and hope until the story culminates in a Happily Ever After and a love that lasts beyond a lifetime. Ms Hunter is able to channel Libby’s pain and heartbreak and Aron’s desperation to remember the woman who haunts his dreams knowing he belongs to her, so well that truly a man and a woman destined for each other will always have that bond that cannot keep them apart.
But love is a double edged sword in this story. No one can force someone else to love them back if the person they desire was never meant to be theirs in the first place. Love is complex and I’ll Remember You introduces us to a character everyone will despise. Martine Delgado. Yet, despite her flaws once cannot help but feel some modicum of sympathy for her.
Ms Hunter has developed Martine’s character very well. Ruthless beyond evil, but generous to a point where the people she loves is concerned, particularly her sister, Alessandra. And Aron McCoy. In the end, however, the Queenpin resorts to violence in a desperate effort to keep the man she loves with drastic consequences. Aron McCoy isn’t anymore the man she loves, but the man she needs to possess. She also loses everything.
When Aron comes home, it’s a joyous occasion masked by uncertainty. However, like the story’s title the mind may forget but the heart always knows. This is what brings Aron back to Libby.
Aron and Libby have always been my favourite couple. The fact that we are given a glimpse of their life and love for each other makes all of us who read their story fortunate for being allowed to be a part of their world.
I’ll Remember You is also a spring board for more of Ms Hunter’s wonderful stories of the men and women who inhabit the world of the McCoy’s and Tebow. It goes without saying that I am always looking forward to knowing them.
Thank you Ms Sable.

Please welcome Ms Emily A. Lawrence!Hi Em! Welcome to my ...

Please welcome Ms Emily A. Lawrence!

Hi Em! Welcome to my blog again. So great to have you back!
Just for the information of our new followers here are some questions to get the readers to know you and your work.
Isobelle: Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Emily: I live in Transylvania with my family, hence my love for vampires and paranormal books. I’m extremely passionate about fiction and have been writing stories, mostly fan fiction, for years now, but only began thinking seriously about publishing approximately a year ago. For me writing is more than a hobby. I love writing because I can escape into the worlds I create and lose myself in my characters and stories. When I write I’m in a totally different place and I get to control what happens. To me it is a wonderful way to escape everyday life and leave my worries behind. When I’m not writing, I enjoy traveling and experiencing new cultures, new sceneries, food and meeting new people, or simply reading a good book.
Isobelle: What made you decide to become a writer? Emily: Last summer I stumbled upon Fifty Shades of Grey. I had no idea what the story was about. I only knew it was a Twilight fan fiction initially. So, as a Twilight fan with a few of my own Twilight fan fiction stories under my belt, I was intrigued and curious about it. I just had to read it. Once I finished it, I decided to try my luck with a Fifty Shades fan fiction and posted it on the same site where E L James had initially posted Fifty. It was the way people responded to it and E L James’ success going from fan fiction to the real deal that gave me the courage to try and do the same thing. I just needed that final push.

Isobelle: How does your writing day look like? Do you need to have an ideal situation for you to write? What do you do if it isn’t ideal?
Emily: I usually go back and read the last few paragraphs I wrote the other day to help me get back into the story. Also, at the end of a writing day, I often leave notes in the manuscript on events I want to write the next day. Lately I’ve been carrying around a notebook where I put down ideas when I’m not able to write. Sometimes whole conversations pop up into my head and I need to get them down while they’re fresh in my mind, or else they won’t come out as good as the first time. In addition, when I write I need absolute silence. No music, no TV and no phone to distract me.
Isobelle: Are you a plotter, a pantser or both?
Emily: I never sit down and plot. I don’t have an outline when I start a new story. I have an idea on how I want it to begin, certain events that should take place, and a vague ending, but I never know what’s going to happen next. I’m never sure what a writing day is going to be like. I get ideas as I write. Sometimes I have several options on how to continue and when that happens, I usually take a breather and detach myself from it for a while, thinking about how the story could develop depending on the path I choose. That said, I am definitely a pantser.
Isobelle: What genre does your book belong to? Are there other genres you’d like to try to write in? What are they?
Emily: I write contemporary romance intended for mature audiences. I am a romantic at heart and I’ve always enjoyed reading a good romantic story. Now I get to write my own. But I’m also interested in paranormal romance. Here in Transylvania we grew up with the legends and myths about supernatural creatures and I’ve always found them intriguing. I am thinking of writing something in this genre too some time in the future.
Isobelle: Tell us a little about your book, The Guardian of My Soul. How did the story of Kristen and Alec come about?
Emily: “The Guardian Of My Soul” is the first book in the Soul’s Desire Series, and tells the story of Kristen, daughter of a renowned fashion designer, and her bodyguard, Alec—two people who struggle with one another, as well as with their own fears and insecurities. Their relationship is volatile and explosive, yet as they are forced to cohabitate, they discover they have more in common than they ever dreamed. Together they face demons from their past and secrets which could tear them apart. So when I started writing this book I had in mind the idea of an impossible love and how the characters could overcome their conditions and any obstacle that may arise and endanger their happiness.I began with two questions:My question for her character was: what happens when she finds herself attracted to the very person whom she considers to be the symbol of her lost freedom? My question for him was: what happens when demons from his past threaten to disturb his new found happiness?Starting from these two premises I began building their story.

Isobelle: What made you decide to set the story at this particular time? How did your characters overcome the preconceived notions of people like the way Kristen viewed Alec or how Alec saw Kristen during that period?
Emily: Some of my favourite books are contemporary and this is the time period I am most comfortable with when it comes to writing also. For Kristen I imagined a woman who loved to be in control when it came to men. Because of some unsolved issues from her past that prevented her from engaging into a serious relationship, losing her grip over her own feelings concerned her terribly. Kristen wanted freedom, wanted to explore the world and break free from her mother’s overprotectiveness, yet things happened the exact opposite of the way she’d imagined. Kristen had been taught not to fraternize with the help. However, these views were not as deeply entrenched as her mother’s were. Kristen saw something in Alec that appealed to her, no matter how much she tried to deny it. Alec was the exact opposite of the men she was used to. He stood up to her, never allowed her to intimidate him or feel superior to him. She was not used to anyone disobeying her, but all these normally undesirable features in her view, were exactly what drew her to him. Alec was no fool she could play around with and in her determination to dominate him she ended up madly in love with him, to the point that she no longer cared who he was. She wanted that man and she was going to do anything in her power to have him, even if she had to go against her mother’s principles.
Alec thought his mission would be easy—a one night gig as a bodyguard. Little did he know his life was about to change the moment he met the person he was supposed to protect. He fights the initial attraction, yet he can’t stay away for long. Even though at first he considers her to be a spoiled brat who has everything her heart desires, Alec slowly discovers a different side of her, a soft side that he finds extremely appealing. He realizes that her need for dominance is just a coping mechanism, so to say, a way of protecting herself and her feelings. As she reveals more of her true self to him, he finds himself in the position where he’d be willing to do anything to keep her safe and give her everything her heart desires.

Isobelle: Since The Guardian of My Soul is part of a series, can you give us a peek of who the next characters will be in the next installment? I’m looking forward to reading about them. ;-)
Emily: The next book in the series is called “Unforgettable Hearts”, the story of Tyler and Ellie, two childhood friends who reunite after being apart for twelve years. Their story is split into two books, so book 3 in the series is a continuation to this one. This book was originally a Fifty Shades fan fiction, and it’s the story that has motivated me and given me the courage to pursue a career in writing. I cannot wait to share it with you!
Isobelle: What is the most rewarding thing about being a writer?  The most difficult thing about being a writer.
Emily: The most rewarding thing is getting a positive feedback from readers and being able to get in touch with people from all over the world, who share the same passion and interests.
I love writing, but there’s nothing easy in this business. Writing the book is just the first step and that takes hours and hours of sitting in front of the computer, trying to be creative and thinking about solutions, dealing with writer’s block, the editing process, and then marketing and promotion, which are probably even harder than writing the book and very time consuming.

Isobelle: What inspires you?
Emily: I find inspiration for my stories everywhere around me. It can be songs, movies, a line in a book, a chat with a friend, a walk in the park with my dog. I think of stories all the time and try to come up with unexpected twists and turns that would surprise readers.
Isobelle: Do you have any other books coming out?
Emily: For the moment I am working on the Soul’s Desire series, which in the end will be comprise of 5 or more books. But I have plans for other stories too, possibly a trilogy and something in the paranormal genre.
Now for the fun part:

Favourite colour?Blue

Favourite food?Pizza – yum!

Favourite tipple/drink?Hot chocolate – I am not a fan of alcohol, but I do enjoy a glass of red wine once in a while

Kind of music?Pop

Hobbies?Tennis, swimming, yoga, travelling

Favourite genres to read?New Adult, Young Adult, paranormal romance, mystery

Excerpt:I could hear the sound of the galloping horse way before I could see it. I knew it was Alec. No matter what I did or said to him, the man had a stubborn habit of tailing me. He was relentless. In spite of my turmoil, I couldn’t help but wonder if he was as relentless in other areas of his life as well. That focused, determined passion would be irresistible in bed. I quickly wiped my tears off my face, feeling both my cheeks were burning. He stopped at a considerable distance when he found me and just stared at me, apparently deciding on how to proceed. Alec took his time, approaching me at a slow, cautious pace, as he would approach a small, frightened animal which would dash away at the least provocation.“I really can’t get five minutes alone?” I grouched, looking at him through speculative eyes. For a moment he appeared disconcerted and I felt a sad satisfaction.“It is part of my job description,” he murmured quietly, stopping a few feet away.I shook my head, tired of hearing the same old explanation over and over again. “Is kissing me a part of your job description too?” I demanded.“You kissed me back,” he retorted in a calmly manner. Alec never gave anything away, none of what he was feeling. It infuriated me.“It will never happen again. I don’t want you to touch me.” I managed.“Oh, really? I could make you beg me to touch you,” he said simply. The smug grin he wore, displaying his perfect white teeth, was the epitome of defiance to me. In a matter of seconds he changed from calm and reasonable to imposing and defiant, faster than a chameleon could change the color of its skin. But instead of anger I could feel excitement sparking through my veins like wild fire.I jumped to my feet and I halfway expected him to step back, but he stood his ground. “Why did you do it? What are you trying to achieve? Is this some kind of game to you?” I drew back my fist as if to strike out at him, but he caught it easily. His hands wrapped around my wrists, holding me securely. “Let go!” I cried.“Be still,” he commanded. His voice was dark velvet, raspy with magic and sex. I stared into his eyes. I didn’t understand the sensations rioting through me. It was frightening. Alec’s jaw clenched. He made a noise—a growl—and suddenly his mouth crushed down on mine and plundered, taking me completely off guard. The kiss warmed me, his tongue tasting until I was panting, furious at myself for wanting more. I writhed against him trying to escape, but he was too strong and demanding. My struggles resulted in my breasts scrubbing across his hard chest, making my nipples feel swollen and heavy, betraying me. I stilled and he finally allowed me to breathe, but I was trapped in his arms.Alec was breathing harshly, his eyes clashed with mine, then moved down to kiss my swollen lips one more time. I couldn’t handle it, so I jerked my face away. “I want more,” he groaned, releasing my right wrist. With gentle but firm movements he twisted my hair around his hand until I had no choice but to look at him. There was a heat in his eyes which belied the mildness and candor of his countenance. He had no right to appear so in control when my flesh was tight and achy and I needed...Damn him! Mr. Confusing has done it again.“Say you never want it to happen again,” he whispered a few inches away from my face, his eyes daring me.“I...I never want it to happen again,” I replied in a peremptory whisper, ignoring the pulse of need pounding between my thighs.“Liar...” He freed me from his grip and returned to his horse. He mounted him and then waited expectantly for me to follow him.I was not sure why I did it, but I fulfilled his silent wish and got up on my horse, joining him. My mind, my emotions and my heart were in total disarray. The horses quickened their pace, broke into a trot and then went into a canter side by side. There were so many unanswered questions swirling inside my brain, but I was afraid to address them to him, afraid of what he might tell me, of what I might discover.Images of our passionate embrace danced in front of my eyes. I shook my head, but the feeling wouldn’t go away. No matter how much I fought not to allow him to tempt me, I found it impossible to resist him. The more I tried, the more intense the longing grew, startling me. Fear twisted in my gut as I realized I was slowly but surely losing control over my own will. I forbade myself to scream in frustration or show any sign of weakness. We reached the stables and let John take care of the horses before we started for the house.“Kristen...” Alec addressed me by my name for the first time, a question and an apology in his tone.A fine tremor rocked me and a tingle sprang to life in my breasts, stopping me in my tracks. I had never dreamed the sound of one man’s voice speaking my name could invoke such longing within me.His hand gently locked around my arm and spun me around to face him. “Look...I’m sorry if I upset you today. I really am. I couldn’t—”“Don’t. Alec...please don’t tease me. What happened today was wrong. I never should have kissed you. We don’t know each other...at all. You don’t even respect me or what I say to you. I don’t know what Mother would say. A bodyguard daring to kiss her daughter...” I blinked, trying to picture her reaction.“I’m not afraid of her or anybody else,” he said dryly.“Perhaps you should be.”“I’m not. I’m my own man. But it looks like you’re afraid of her. You wouldn’t even breathe if she told you not to.”“That’s not true.” I frowned.“Then why do you care so much about what she may have to say in regard to us?”“There is no ‘us’, Alec! Whatever this is, it never happened. For your sake and mine, just drop it before it ends badly.”“Badly...as in you falling in love with the son of a mere bodyguard?”I trembled. “I’ll never fall in love. Not with you, nor with any other man. So forget it!”“Never say never, sweetheart.” He took one last long look at me before strolling away. I felt like I’d been run over by a steamroller.

Please welcome Palessa!

About Palessa:

Palessa started reading her first romance novel, at the age of 11.
Then she got introduced to V.C. Andrews, Barbara Taylor Bradford, Anne Rice and many more notable contemporary authors as well as some of the classics, A Tale of Two Cities, Their Eyes Were Watching God, The Great Gatsby and others. It was during her teenage years that she dabbled in writing. First, it was in her diaries, then she started creating characters, stories about romance, the supernatural and much more. Being an International Baccalaureate student as well as entering college, left little time for writing and so she put it and the ideas aside to pursue a career. It would take almost 20 years, a radical move from the city she grew up in.
Isobelle: Hi Palessa! Thank you so much for guesting here. Please, tell us a little about yourself.
Palessa: Thanks for inviting me.  I'm the kind of person that, if you ask that, my answer is "I was born and I'm still here." So I guess I can say that plus I have a crazy, nutty mutt and live in the mountains of Jamaica letting my Dad do most of the hard farm labor.
Isobelle: What made you decide to become a writer?
Palessa: I don't know that it was a decision as much as it was something that was scratching at me for a  long time. According to both of my parents, I was reading by age 2 and I also loved to watch movies as well. Then when I was 11, my mother, in her wisdom, presented me with my first diary and I was able to put my thoughts/feeling/ideas/observations, all of that in a safe place for my eyes only. Eventually, I started liking this boy. I would say love was really more accurate because it snuck up on me. He totally rejected me so my experience with love was of the unrequited variety and that's when I started with these scenarios/stories to just deal with that and to help me feel better. I wrote for a while but when you're writing about life circumstances that are beyond your years, it's tough. I just wasn't ready to go there yet and I was getting more involved with school and didn't think I was really any good so I put it away. It would be about 20 years and pushing the "reset" button before I ever thought I could write any kind fiction story. I really didn't think I had that ability anymore. But then these scenarios started popping up and I thought, let me give it a shot.
Isobelle: How does your writing day look like? Do you need to have an ideal situation for you to write? What do you do if it isn’t ideal?
Palessa: Uh, my ideal situation is sitting in some hotel somewhere with room service, peace and quiet, with my laptop and just the time to go for it. Reality is that I have projects/clients, a farm which is mostly handled by Dad but there are times when he needs my help so my writing time is not usually a daily activity, at least not fiction writing. There are times when the drive is too powerful to ignore. So I'll carve out some early morning time to either put pen to paper so I can get to it later OR I just write. I'm typically writing nonstop one day a week, weekends.
Isobelle:  Are you a plotter, a pantser or both?
Palessa: Both, I'd say. You have some who plot out every single detail and have the book done in an outline. I have what passes for an outline to help me get a general idea of the story. If I get stuck, I put pen to paper and just write out my thoughts and usually I discover the story the character is trying to tell me. Then I write and more often than not I'll start with a path in mind but the story just takes a different turn and I have to follow it.
Isobelle: I completely agree with you. Sometimes, the plot comes then the dialogue follows immediately and you just need to write it all down before it disappears. What genre does your book belong to? Are there other genres you’d like to try to write in? What are they?
Palessa: I don't really know.  I know for marketing purposes, it needed to be categorized but to me, it's just a story of history repeating in a family that was forced apart through circumstances they couldn't have fathomed…with romantic elements . As far as other genres…I love Star Trek and this show called the Outer Limits. I love the fantastical world of sci-fi and do have an idea for a shorter story like that.  I also like the paranormal world. One of my first longer novels when I was a teen was a paranormal story and I would love to revisit that as well. Maybe one day I'll be brave enough to do one or both.
Isobelle: Tell us a little about your book, Unchained Hearts. How did the story of Cass and Virgilia come about?
Palessa: Funny enough, Kyle's story was the first one that came to mind and her story was a lot more complicated than what's in the book. That was when I decided to just sit down and just listen to the characters. Newton Cassius Baxter came to me because I was coming off of the series finale of Spartacus so that's why both Cass and his father have such Roman names. I knew he would be the head of a major conglomerate. My initial thought of Virgilia was that she was a maid in the household and they would fall in love but after I thought about it, I realized she was way more ambitious and self-possessed than I was aware of. I also knew that in order for Kyle to be the woman she needed to be, there had to be one helluva history behind her. So I started writing based on those ideas and the love of Cass and Virgilia just hit me hard. I knew they would be in love but there was something else to come and that's where that twist happened. Then with Kyle learning about her history, there was another twist as well. Believe me, as I wrote it, I didn't see the twists coming so I did my best to work with them.
Isobelle: What made you decide to set the story at this particular time? How did your characters overcome the preconceived notions of people during that period?– Actually it was a matter of math. I thought of Kyle and knew that I wanted her to be a certain age and so I just did a bid of "storyteller math" that dropped me in the 70's. Miami is a strange place. It's a very international city, a transient city, because it's accessible from the Atlantic and the Caribbean. It's known these days for a strong Cuban/Latin American influence. Before the 1980's, it was still a very international spot that made you forget that you were living in "the South." But not everybody is a fan of the variety of flavors. So for the most part, the characters have a strong sense of self and personal power that helped them bypass the narrow minds of certain people, as much as they could. I basically grew up around people who were more of that mindset and those with the narrow minds didn't matter in the grand scheme. That's how they dealt with those preconceived notions; they didn't really give them more attention than they deserved.
Isobelle: As Unchained Hearts is a saga, can you give us a peek of who the next characters will be in the next installment? - Well, I actually shared a sneak peek with my mailing list from Book 2 and plan to do 1 or 2 more. It's a rough draft but it's going to be called "Portrait of Gray." After the first book, I was taken with Grayson Baxter and his transformation. I wanted to explore that a little more and even though I am having a lot of fun writing it (I'm about 60% done with the first draft), it was a tough one that had me misting up at certain points because it touches on some tough events.
Isobelle: What is the most rewarding thing about being a writer?  The most difficult thing about being a writer.
Palessa: You know, It's hard for me to think of myself as a writer.  When I think of 'writer,' I think of Toni Morrison, Alice Walker, Zora Neale Hurston. Me? I'm just a storyteller. I guess you could call that the reward as well as the challenge. I don't have the literary pressure that those guys have. I'm interested in telling the character's story in a way that I'm happy with. Once I'm happy with it, I'm ready to share it and stand by it come what may. At the same time, the challenge is that my first instinct is to judge every word, every idea even before it's on the page. That's that bit of doubt tugging at me and messing with my head. It's such a solitary, mind-boggling business.

Isobelle: What inspires you?
The idea that I can do something fun and make money from it. I think that's a kick! I am able to really create this world that I like, then share it with others, they like it and I'm actually making money from my own imagination from now until whenever.

Isobelle: Do you have any other books coming out?
I am writing Portrait of Gray which I hope will be out by April 2014 *cross my fingers.* After that, I think I'll take a bit of a break (if I can) and gear up for book 3, which I'm planning as a tie off for Unchained Hearts. I am thinking there will be a book 4 but I have another idea milling in my head. So the answer to that question is a definite maybe.

Now for the fun part:
Favourite colour?
Green, like that rich forest green
Favourite food?
Chinese/Thai. I LOVE Chinese food
Favourite tiple/drink?
I don't really drink alcohol. Never got that into the taste BUT I had my birthday at a winery called Schnebly's a few years ago because I loved the atmosphere and thought it would be fun. They had mango wine and sparkling lychee wine, guava wine… I loved those. So unless it's from Schnebly's which is now far away from me, I'm not that into drinking  I do love sorrel, which is a fruit drink and a sour sop drink. So fruity, tart juices.
Kind of music? No particular genre.  Contrary to popular assumption, I don't love reggae. The older reggae, I like a little than the new dancehall stuff. I respect reggae but I don't particularly care for it that much. My parents played Manhattans, ABBA, Temptations, O'Jays, Platters, Supremes then I moved to Def Leppard, Madonna, Richard Marx, Exposé, Metallica, Yanni, Enya, Josh Groban, Janet Jackson, Whitney…I'm all over the place…I decided that if I like it, I'll listen. That's why I loved Pandora, which I can't get here, unfortunately.
Hobbies?
I am going to have to reacquaint myself with the concept because I am doing a lot of business stuff. Right now it's reading. I'm going to be getting cable back because I'm totally missing my favourite shows. So TV, iPod, Writing, Talking to my friends in the US/UK/Other places…I'm really quite a boring homebody.
Favourite genres to read? – I'm reading the classics. Finished Pride & Prejudice, reading Jane Eyre and will probably hit Tale of Two Cities after. I find they help me just relax and I'm enjoying reading them as an adult. I have read books like Yours and Sables. I have to admit they make me upset because I know these guys aren't real but I SO want them to be. I've read Robert Ludlum, Clive Cussler, John Grisham, Ken Follett, I tend to do drama/suspense/romance/brainy stuff in different combinations.

Isobelle: Aww....shucks.....thank you! Who knows? They might just become real. ;-)
My blog is now all yours to showcase your work.Oh, thanks Isobelle. *rubs hands together*

When she finally got her ticket, she stood at the door, digging through her purse. Just as she reached for the handle, her hand touched someone else's.  She looked up at him and felt a sudden jolt through her body. Their eyes locked for what seemed like an eternity. Virgilia was suddenly lost in his warm emerald green eyes. He looked at her brown eyes and caught his breath. "After you," he said, as she suddenly remembered where she was and why."Thank you," she managed to get out as she walked through the door he held open.            Neither of them had ever felt that way before and didn't know what to make of it. Was it a case of static? It felt a little too good to be just a random shock.             Virgilia tried to shake it off as she made her way into the theater. It was packed and she craned her head to find a possible seat. There were a couple of vacancies close to the front. Virgilia hated being that close to the screen, but as the saying goes, beggars can't be choosers. She found a seat and relaxed a bit. Not long after, her green-eyed doorman sat next to her. "I'm not following you," he said, grinning at the look of surprise on her face. "This is just the only seat which seems to be left""Don't worry. I didn’t think you were following me""Why not? Aren't you worth following?" he flashed Virgilia a devastating smile which made her blush. Before she could even think of an answer, the lights dimmed. She felt him lean in to her "We will continue this discussion later." Her stomach shivered as she cleared her throat and focused on the screen.Throughout the movie, the audience’s reaction just heightened the tension of the scenes. Virgilia had no idea how big this shark was, but she knew the next time she decided to go to the beach, she would definitely rethink it.A couple of times, the movie made her jump, much to the amusement of her doorman."Don't worry, Precious," he whispered. "I'll protect you"Virgilia felt the pit of her stomach flutter when he called her "precious." If it were any other man, she would have been offended, even threatened. With him, it felt natural to hear him to call her that and she didn't even know his name. When the movie ended, she stared at the screen, reading the credits. When she turned to glance at him, he was gone. Virgilia felt a pang of disappointment. As she exited the theater, she felt a presence behind her. She turned to see him smiling at her."You never did answer my question. Don't you think you're worth following?""I will only answer questions from men whose names I know.""Fair enough" he said as he extended his hand "My friends call me Cass.""I'm Virgilia," she said as she shook his hand"That's quite a name. I think I'll call you 'Lila' for short."Normally she hated it when people called her by some modification of her name, but this one seemed different. "Do you often change the name of the people you meet to suit yourself?""Only the special ones."Virgilia felt her cheeks get hot and her stomach do backflips. No stranger had ever made her feel so at ease. For his part, Cass was fascinated by this vision he saw before him. There was something about this woman, a light, a fire which drew him in and made him want to lose himself in those gorgeous brown eyes. He’d never felt anything like it before and was not going to let this opportunity pass him by."Yes," Virgilia said, suddenly."Yes, to Lila?""That too, but I meant the answer to your question." Cass looked a little lost and then she said, "I am worth following."Cass felt his heart flip as he grinned. "Shall we?" he said offering his arm. They walked around and talked for what felt like minutes, but turned out to be hours as evening turned to dusk. Virgilia's face hurt from smiling so much; she couldn't recall the last time she had such fun by herself or with anyone. Cass found her smart and witty and even more beautiful than when he’d opened the door for her. He had met some stunning women in his life, but tonight, they seemed merely passable compared to Lila. "It's getting late." She said "I had better get home""I'll walk you." he announced."No, I don't live too far from here."He held his hand up. "I'm not letting any woman walk alone at night anywhere, no matter how close she lives."They’d only just met, but the look on his face said he wasn't going to take ‘no’ for an answer. She thought better of starting an argument as they slowly made it to the gate of her house."Well, this is me," she said.He nodded and looked at the house. It was small, modest, and held a bit of charm with the low white fence separating it from the house next door."Cass, I had a wonderful time.""So did I," Cass said as his gaze moved from her eyes to her lips. "I want to do it again."Virgilia wanted the same, but she had to be practical. "Maybe we should leave it at tonight."Cass looked Virgilia straight in the eyes with a determination he felt deep within him. He was not used to hearing the word ‘no’ from a woman. But from this woman, the thought of not seeing her after tonight was completely unacceptable. "I don't believe you believe that. I can see it in your eyes…"

He is sent to find her. Another trained and burned by the Nations, Byron Suthland is hired to find the weapon, only he doesn’t want to find her for them. He wants to find her for himself and bring back a woman, not a weapon. Knowing she can kill him instantly means nothing, but caring about her means everything.
Excerpt“And where are you going to go?”
“Home.”“Do you even know where home is?” “No, but you do and you’re going to be kind enough to give me the information.” “It isn’t that easy.” She lost her temper and walked right up to him, bringing the gun she had tucked behind her right out. He didn’t fight her when she put her hand up to his throat, shoving him back against the wall, her gun now pressed right between his eyes. “What are you going to do, Severine?” Byron asked. “Shoot me?” “If I have to.” “Then what kind of information will you get?” They had a kind of standoff. Both refusing to back down or look away. However, Byron made a move, one she wasn’t expecting. His hand came up slowly, his body didn’t move. With the back of his hand, knuckles only, he touched the side of her face. Severine moved back. “What are you doing?” She frowned at him. “Something I think hasn’t been done to you in a very long time.” “Don’t do that.” His hand went back to her ear and into her hair. “But I want to do this.” When his face began to lower down to hers and both of his hands moved to her waist, Severine changed the position of the gun. She now pressed it up under his chin. “I can shoot you and keep you alive.” His face was mere inches from her own, lips so close she could feel his breath upon her own. “And I think this will be well worth getting shot.” They touched. His lips touched her own gently, softly. She had never been kissed before. The only type of touching she’d been subjected to had always resulted in pain of some kind. Yet this wasn’t painful, but it confused her none the less. He didn’t do much of anything else either. In fact, if she wasn’t mistaken, she thought he was trying to show her how to kiss. Why she let this happen, she couldn’t answer. But Severine did give in mostly due to her curiosity. She wanted to know what this felt like. What it was like to be held by another and not made to suffer for it. However, before anything more could go on, the gun she held under his chin was taken from her hand and the light kissing simply stopped. He pulled back enough to look her once more in the eye, one arm still around her. Keeping eye contact with her, Byron uncocked the gun, let it drop with his finger still on the trigger so it would flip butt first back to her. “I’m not going to hurt you, Severine. Ever. And I will help you find what you need, but not with a gun at my head. Next time, just say please.” She took the gun from his hand, he let her go, and moved around her toward the steps, taking them two at a time up, leaving her right where she stood.

Burn's Night!

Scotland has often been my inspiration when writing my stories.  There is something mystical and even lyrical about the place. The first story I wrote set in Scotland was Love in Her Dreams.  Here's an excerpt:
Tamsyn felt the softest touch of a finger along her jaw and a thumb stroking her lower lip. She smiled before his lips captured hers in a sweet kiss. She moaned as she opened her mouth to his sweet invasion eagerly toying with his tongue as he did with hers. Tamsyn let her hands roam his muscled body deriving pleasure from just simply touching him. His groan was music to her ears as he slanted his mouth to deepen the kiss. Then his mouth hovered over hers.“Hey you,” Tamsyn's said before she opened her eyes, her voice husky both from sleep and desire. “I was thinking of you the whole day today.”“So was I,” he whispered. “I felt you near. But I couldn't find you. Are you here?”“Where's here?”“Edinburgh.”“You're in Edinburgh?” Tamsyn's eyes widened. “But where? How can I find you?”He sighed.“That's something I'm still trying to figure out,” he said as his hand traveled down to her waist then her hip before he trailed his fingers across her stomach. Tamsyn closed her eyes as her belly quivered at his touch. Her hip bucked gently against his hip. When she opened her eyes again, she looked around.“We're not in your room,” she said with a puzzled frown. He chuckled as he looked around. A sexy low rumble in his chest.“No we're not. We're in yours,” he said as he settled between her legs. Tamsyn gasped as she felt his hot rod nudging the top of her thigh then her belly, causing her channel to start weeping. “Am I not heavy?”“No, you're not,” she said her pupils dilated with her hunger. “I like it when you're on top of me. It makes me feel ---”“Makes you feel what?”Tamsyn moaned and sighed at the same time as he nuzzled her neck, his stubble grazing her sensitive skin, exciting her more.“That I'm yours.”He stopped then lifted his head.Tamsyn would never tire of looking at him. His eyes that made her melt every time he looked at her crinkled with laugh lines in a chiseled face. His eyes were the deepest blue that she had ever seen that it almost looked black. A firm and sensual mouth that wreaked havoc on her body lifted in a lopsided grin. Taut skin skimmed the elegant ridge of his cheekbones.“You are mine.” his deep and sexy voice vibrated through her. Tamsyn's breath hitched when she felt more moisture pool between her thighs and her pleasure nub throbbed in anticipation. She liked the way he said she was his.He bent down again to lick and nip her bottom lip before running his tongue over and inside her mouth making her shiver with delight. Her right leg automatically lifted to caress his left hip. God! She ached for him to be inside her so much that her hips slowly lifted against his telling him what she wanted. His rod was hard marble encased in skin so soft. Her hands splayed across the expanse of his chest moving over his ribcage to run her palms up and down his muscled back. Her palms' nerve endings delighted at the feel of the taut skin that seemed to heat up wherever she touched.Tamsyn heard him hiss when one of her hands slowly followed the shape of his torso and down towards his strong butt. They locked eyes as she kneaded one cheek taut.“What you do to me,” he ground out as he licked her earlobe, the sensitive spot at the back of her ear and tracing her ear with his tongue. Tamsyn's sighed, her eyes closed as she savored every erotic tingle that zinged up and down her body before adding to the pool between her legs. His hips bucked against hers slowly, sensually, making her know that his thick rod was as eager and impatiently looking forward to claiming her.Tamsyn smiled as her hand and fingers made butterfly like touches up towards his back.“What do I do to you?” Tamsyn teased. She made small nips on his neck and pecs. Her tongue came out as she made a hot beeline to his nipple.Instead of answering he swooped down to catch her mouth in a ravaging kiss. Their tongues mated and seared each other with their hunger, their teeth nipped without restraint as though they hadn't touched each other for a very long time when it had only been the night before that he had made love to her in her dreams. He forged a trail of hot kisses and licks to her shoulder. He nipped the strap of her tank top with his teeth while he removed the other strap with his hand. Soon her breasts were exposed to his dark gaze. Her eyes were half lidded with anticipation. He didn't disappoint.

Consensual by Katherine Rhodes

Consensual (Club Imperial) Consensual by Katherine Rhodes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the first BDSM book I've read of a Domme/sub relationship and what a refreshing read! I love the way Emmy is portrayed and the way she controls her relationship with Nathaniel. At the same time I love the way Nathaniel slowly eases Emmy into his vanilla world.Emmy needs to control things around her because of the events that happened to her. Nate is willing to be with her through her journey.

The thing I liked about this book is that Ms Rhodes is not an apologist for the characters. She allows us to see Nate's initial aversion to the BDSM lifestyle before he gradually tests the waters only to realize that he likes it. She also allows us to see Emmy's skepticism of the vanilla world, BDSM being the only lifestyle she knows, before she gives up a little control to Nate. She allows us to see Emmy's insecurities letting us to draw our own conclusions about her. At the end of the day, it is really about trust. Strong but vulnerable Emmy. Sweet but commanding Nathaniel. What a combination!

Ms Rhodes writes very well. Subtle but packs a punch that stays with you even after the last page of the book has been turned or even after probably your nth mug of coffee or cup of tea.

There are those who don't like cliffhangers. I'm not bothered with cliffhangers in books that are written as a series. This is one of them. I am chafing at the bit waiting for the next book!

Ms Rhodes is definitely one author to follow.
