NaNoWriMo 2013 – Writing Challenges – Day 9

NaNoWriMo Day 9 Challenges

Word Challenge:  inconceivable

Definition:  not capable of being imagined or grasped mentally; unbelievable

  Theme Challenge:  Faith

Faith is the belief in the intangible. It can be a belief in an entity, be it a god or a concept turned into a god. It can be in others. It can be the belief in the supernatural, the paranormal, or all the little things that go bump in the light. Faith can be the belief in unicorns.

Pursue how faith can impact a group of people.

Plot Challenge:  I can’t believe that just happened!

Sometimes fact is stranger than fiction. We have little moments in our lives where we just say, “I can’t believe that just happened!” It can be a good something or a bad something, but include a ‘something’ that is unexpected. This event should distract from the main goals of the characters and present a conflict. It should be something out of the character’s control, be it a rain of frogs, alligators, or fish (This can happen in coastal regions as a natural occurrence) or a freak car accident.

Character Challenge:  Unwavering Spirit

Introduce a character with a fanatical belief in your main character. To them, your main character can do no wrong. This is a very strong trait, and can cause a significant number of problems for your characters – especially if something does finally break the fanatics unwavering spirit.

Conflict Challenge:  Unwanted Advances

Whether or not your story is a romance, people have to deal with unwanted advances in some fashion or another. These advances should be aggressive and cause the target significant amounts of discomfort, until it gets to the point where the advances have to be dealt with, one way or another.

Fun & Games: Spin the bottle

Your characters play spin the bottle. The two most unlikely characters get coerced into kissing each other.
