The Misfit and Her Shepherd {I am a Spiritual Misfit Series}

Welcome to the “I am a Spiritual Misfit” Series. Every Friday a guest blogger will write about his or her experience as His Beloved Misfit. This week we welcome Asheritah. I just recently met Asheritah when she joined the Spiritual Misfit launch team, and I am so, so grateful that our paths have crossed. We’ve since had a couple of great conversations — one of which you can watch here on YouTube — and I’ve read quite a bit of her stellar writing on her blog, One Thing Alone.Today Asheritah wr...

An Interview with Love Idol Author Jennifer Dukes Lee {and a giveaway!}

My friend Jennifer Dukes Lee and I are doing something fun today – she’s over here at my place, and I’m over at hers, which is perfect, because that’s exactly how we’ve walked this road to publication: arm-in-arm the whole way.

LoveIdol2If you don’t know her yet, Jennifer is the author of the recently released Love Idol: Letting Go of Your Need for Approval – and Seeing Yourself through God’s Eyes. Friends, this book is fab. u. lous. I read several chapters of it in its early draft stage and loved it....

Hear It on Sunday, Use It on Monday: Heaven Starts Here

This is the last of six weeks of Monday Lenten reflections. I hope you’ve enjoyed as much peace on these Mondays as I have. Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!

Then the angel showed me a river with the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. It flowed down the center of the main street. On each side of the river grew a tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, with a fresh crop each month. The leaves were used for medicine to heal the nations.

No lo...

Once More, With Feeling {I am a Spiritual Misfit Series}

I met Laura Brown two years ago at a writers’ retreat deep in a Texas canyon, where the river runs jade and the hummingbirds gather like bees on the blossoms. I was immediately awed by her quiet presence. You can tell, within moments of meeting Laura, that she’s smart, really smart, and a deep, contemplative thinker. I was a little intimidated. When I found out she’d taken workshops withLauren Winner, my writer idol,I was just about done in. I love Laura. I’m still a tweeny bit intimidated by...

Just popping in quick to say a big, loud, cartwheeling thank you for all the comments and tweets and Facebook posts and words of support you offered on book release day yesterday. It was a wild day, full of love and praise for God and YOU! So thank you for making the launch of Spiritual Misfitso special.

I am honored and delighted to be over at Elizabeth Esther’s place today with a guest post. Elizabeth and I are publisher-sisters – she recently released her first book, a memoir titled Girl at...

Welcome to the World, Spiritual Misfit!

I’ve mentioned before that I weep every time I read the acknowledgements section in my own book. If Brad sees me looking a little misty-eyed, he’ll ask, “Hey, have you been reading your own acknowledgements again?” And then we crack up, because it is a little lame to cry over your own book.

Writing and releasing a book is a lot like pregnancy and labor – a really, really, really long pregnancy and labor in my case. And you know when you have a baby how you get all weepy with gratitude for all...

Hear It on Sunday, Use It on Monday: God Sees Us Through

We are enjoying a bit of Lenten quiet on Mondays here until Easter. I’m posting a verse, a devotion and a prayer. Peace and grace, friends…

“O Lord my God, I cried to you for help, and you restored my health. You brought me up from the grave, O Lord. You kept me from falling into the pit of death. Sing to the Lord, all you godly ones! Praise his holy name!”(Psalm 30:2-4)

Sometimes we take passages like these a little too literally. We read a verse like, “I cried to you for help, and you restore...

When You’re Not Sure What Transformation is Supposed to Look Like {I am a Spiritual Misfit series}

I’ve known Charity Singleton Craig awhile now and have come to both love her and respect her work on her own blog and as an editor for The High Calling. Just this past fall I was absolutely delighted to meet Charity at Laity Lodge in Texas, and let me tell you, she is even more genuine and warm in person. Today Charity candidly writes about what it feels like to discover that her faith “isn’t what it seemed, and neither is Jesus.”

In some ways, faith came easy to me because I always wanted so...
