Cathrina's Review of Six of Crows #fantasy #spec.fiction

Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price--and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can't pull it off alone...A convict with a thirst for revenge.A sharpshooter who can't walk away from a wager.A runaway with a privileged past.A spy known as the Wraith.
A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums.
A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes.
Six dangerous outcasts. One impossible heist. Kaz's crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don't kill each other first.
Cathrina's Review
WOW!!!
Six of Crows is the first book I've read by Leigh Bardugo and I was blown away by her world.
Since I had not read her other books in the Grisha Series, I was slightly lost in the beginning of the book with the language and the extraordinary abilities of the people. Though, I persevered through a couple of chapters and I'm so happy and delighted that I did.
Talk about speculative fiction!
This tale revolves around teenagers between the ages of 15 to 18 years old. And you'll be utterly amazed, IF, this is the type of genre that you love, which I do.
I was captivated by a convict, a sharpshooter, a runaway, a wraith, a Heartrender and, a thief. A bunch of misfits that come together for a spectacular mission. The story is fast paced, gritty, and full of action.
After reading Six of Crows, I'm not surprised that the author, Leigh Bardugo is a #1 New York Times Bestseller.

#IWSG Insecure Writer's Support Group

http://www.insecurewriterssupportgroup.com/p/iwsg-sign-up.html
Join Alex J. Cavanaugh and a multitude of writer's in this monthly hop to help support one another!

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

The awesome co-hosts this month are: Lauren Hennessy, Lisa Buie-Collard, Lidy, Christine Rains, and Mary Aalgaard!

I'm not a great writer, I realize that. I do try my best to entertain readers with my books. I also know I have a love for too many adverbs and adjectives, which I've been weening myself off of.
What has bothered me this month are reviews. Yes. Those dreaded reviews where some, not the majority of readers are too critical and downright nasty.
I've learned to be weary of Goodreads. On Goodreads the trolls prowl around hungry to squash authors. I recently received a preview review (that's where its not rated) where the person went to Amazon and read the beginning pages. This person actually wrote a long review, without reading the book, full of sarcastic remarks about every other paragraph by just reading the pages Amazon offered. I could go on and on about other incorrigible reviews or those people that just fly by to slap my book with 1 star just because...

I have learned to laugh, shake my head, and brush off these reviews. But what hurts are the people. How can people be so mean? Whenever I complain my kids roll their eyes and say, "Mom, everyone has the right to voice their opinions. Let it go."

Now on a brighter note:

Since beginning my WIP quite a while ago, and putting the darn thing on hold time and again, my characters have been giving me grief!!!
I'm happy to report that they have decided to forgive me. While I'm a true pantser and a slow writer, I'm trying my best to keep up with them. They're urging me on, and I can only hope they know where they're going.
Thank you for dropping by!!

Prah, Constantine, and Baryeh Review: For the Love of Chocolate #romance

Hello, and Welcome to Another Month Of the Prah, Constantine, and Baryeh Review.
This month we chose this sweet romance, For the Love of Chocolate by Susan Ann Wall
Maddie Carson has taken a sacred vow to give up chocolate and dating. A comfort eater who turns to brownies every time her twin brother is deployed with the army, Maddie has twenty pounds to lose before she can once again date like it's an Olympic sport. She and her best friend are on a mission to open an equine assisted therapy center and Maddie is desperate to work through her body image issues in order to be the best therapist she can be. When the fitness buff at the gym - known as Hot Shirtless Guy - not only teaches her proper technique on the rowing machine but also asks her to dinner, Maddie finds herself struggling to stay on the wagon. To complicate matters, Darren Brown (yes, his name is the root word in “brownie”) is trying to buy the same horse as Maddie and offers to buy in on a partnership to open the therapy center. Maddie fell in love with the mare because of her name and gentle demeanor, but Darren’s tragic relationship with Chocolate has Maddie questioning her own motives. When partnering with Darren becomes a financial necessity, Maddie will discover that by giving her heart, she can achieve all her dreams.

Cathrina's Review:

For the Love of Chocolate captured my interest on the first page when the author wrote: Hot Shirtless Guy with a double horseshoe tattoo on his chest. (I paraphrased) While that one sentence doesn't encompass the entire book, it urged me to go on.

By the next page, I was chuckling when Hot Shirtless Guy was trying to help our mc, Maddie on how to manage the rowing machine at the gym.
"You have to aim for the nipples," he says.
As if an invitation, her nipples tightened and tingled, the sensation swirling around the large curves, heading south in a rush.
I dearly loved this sentence: The man had dimples a girl could fall into and never find her way out.

If you've read the blurb then I need not repeat it. I certainly can relate to Maddie's comfort food and chocolate obsession. Who doesn't love all that? Well, most people. And the need to lose weight before she begins to date again has her warding off the sexy and handsome Darren, AKA, Hot Shirtless Guy.

When Maddie soon discovers that Darren is trying to buy the horse named Chocolate, which she so desires, things get complicated, especially after she learns the reasoning behind Darren's wish to purchase Chocolate.

It turns out that Maddie is her own worst enemy. She's very critical of herself and her body. (Which I can also relate) It takes Darren several attempts to get Maddie to agree on a date, and even then she's not very cooperative. But inwardly, she's so freaking hot for the guy, the author, Ms. Wall plays out these sequences with brilliant quips that had me laughing out loud.

I really liked For The Love of Chocolate and would recommend the book to those who love romance.

Now head on over to Nana Prah and Empi Baryeh to read their reviews.

Today, I've asked Author, Sara Dobie Bauer a few questions so you can get to know her a little better.

Do you have any kind of routine before starting to write?Tea and Tumblr, baby.
Where do you get your inspiration?EVERYWHERE (although music is very important).
Do you have another project in the works? My full-length novel, BITE SOMEBODY, comes out this summer from World Weaver Press.
Do you have any inspiring words for aspiring writers?Write five days a week, and don't give a shit about what anyone else thinks.
WOLF AMONG SHEEP  “What exactly do you deduce we proposed?”
“That I enter into a sexual relationship with a married couple.”

Piper Morgan by Stephanie Faris #childrensbook

My Blogger Friend and Wonderful Author, Stephanie Faris has a new children's book coming out, and I asked her to help me with some interesting ideas.

5 Tips for Coming Up with Book Ideas
by Stephanie Faris
A long time ago, a coworker heard I was an aspiring novelist. He informed me that he has a lot of great book ideas.
“Why don’t we team up?” he asked. “I’ll give you the ideas and you write the novels.”
I laughed it off at the time. After all, coming up with the ideas is the easy part. Writing 40,000, 60,000, or 80,000 words? That’s the real work.
Or so you think. Then one day you realize you’re completely out of ideas. You want to write a great book, but the idea well seems to have dried up.
Most writers realize quickly that ideas don’t simply come to you when it’s time to write a new book. If you’re a novelist, you probably have a list of ideas stored somewhere. Maybe they’re jotted in a notebook or in your Notes app on your phone. Most of us have an “ideas” file somewhere on our computers. But almost all of us have come up with a great idea, only to forget about it once we’re back in front of our computers again.
These five tips could help you make sure that the next time you’re ready to write a book, you have a full list of ideas you can consider.
1)    Make it easy. If an idea hits you while you’re at the grocery store or helping your kids pick out back-to-school clothes, how will you capture it? Hastily-written notes on the back of receipts can get lost. All writers should either keep a small notebook on us at all times or use a tool like Evernote or the Notes app built into your phone to capture those ideas.2)    Go for a walk. I’ve found some of my best ideas come when I’m getting exercise, especially in nature. If it helps to listen to a certain kind of music, do it, but you may find that music only distracts you.3)    Read. Some of my best ideas have come while I’m reading someone else’s book. It might be a subplot or a quirk a certain character has. You never know when that idea will hit.4)    People watch. Go hang out in a coffee shop or the food court of a mall. Pay attention to the people around you. If you write for teens, eavesdrop on one of their conversations. You’ll not only get great ideas, but listening to teens talk can help with dialogue.5)    Talk to people. I write for young readers, so the children in my life often find themselves answering questions about their friends, the things they like to do, and (especially) what they like to read. Teenagers sometimes will very excitedly tell you what type of book they’d like to see. If it’s something they feel is lacking in fiction today, you may be able to write a book that readers will love.
Writing a novel is hard work, but if you have a great idea, you’ll have a great start. Writers spend a lot of time in front of our computers, but sometimes we have to get out into the world. After all, some of the best ideas we’ll ever have will come from our interactions with other people.

Stephanie hit the nail on the head for me. Going for a walk helps me to conjure up ideas, and believe it or not, I like to clean. Cleaning also helps me.

Here is Stephanie's New Book Cover. I definitely will buy this for my new little ones!!!!!

Piper helps some four-legged friends find the perfect home in the third book of the brand-new Piper Morgan series.

Piper is super excited to help out at Bark Street, a local animal shelter in town. Who wouldn’t want to be surrounded by adorable puppies and dogs all day? And when Piper sees Taffy, the cutest dog she has ever seen, Piper is determined to find a way to bring Taffy home. But it won’t be easy—especially when she finds out someone else wants to make Taffy a part of their family, too!

Stephanie Faris knew she wanted to be an author from a very young age. In fact, her mother often told her to stop reading so much and go outside and play with the other kids. After graduating from Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science in broadcast journalism, she somehow found herself working in information technology. But she never stopped writing.

Stephanie is the Simon & Schuster author of 30 Days of No Gossip and 25 Roses, as well as the upcoming Piper Morgan series. When she isn’t crafting fiction, she writes for a variety of online websites on the topics of business, technology, and her favorite subject of all—fashion. She lives in Nashville with her husband, a sales executive.

I was gearing up for my release of Wickedly They Dream for next weekend. Getting the games ready and making promo's and all that stuff, all the while thinking: "I'm ahead of time. YESH!!"
Then I got the flu. The one that knocks you so hard you can't lift your aching head or body off the bed except to crawl to the bathroom and... it's nasty...
I thought by Thursday I'd be golden, but the darn thing won't let go. It's lingering...

It has to go away by Saturday because I have a BIG CELEBRATION!!!

My second grand baby is being born
I hope everyone stays healthy and have a nice weekend.
