Pebbles In A Stream

Like pebbles in a stream
Polished day after day
Our souls become smooth from life’s rushing waters
Refining our rough edges
Washing over us
Day, after, day, after, day
And some days
Yes, some days
It can feel like you are drowning
For the water can flow faster than we want it to
This is when I take refuge in the written word
For this is a world of no bills
No bosses with broken promises
With their ever ending need to control you
For in my world of writing there are no pipedreams to be sold
At the cost of...

Tick Tock

Tick tock, tick tock
The clock’s hands sweep slowly again
I’m delirious from lack of sleep
Yet
I still have a full day of work ahead of me
My back is twisted from years of labor jobs
And childhood scoliosis
The pain’s unbearable at times
But somehow I bear it
You see
Time is time
But when you’re on their time
Oh, does it drag with the utmost perfection
And
When you want it to speed up
It slows even more
Barely moving at all
Tick tock is the sound of the clock
On the wall in front of m...

Hawks And Horseshoes

A hawk’s small chest feather
Slightly curved
Lay cradled
Within a horseshoe
Hung to hold luck
It looks like the making of a twister rolling in from the north
I stand facing the wind
Looking up at what’s coming in the sky
The small birds dart and dip in the downdrafts
Fleeing with speed to their nests
Then something catches my eye
Almost on top of the sky
A bald eagle
Riding the rough winds of that day
You see
Sometimes
You have to give yourself to the wind
Ride the storms of life like the eagle
Some...

Pretentious Heels

People stepping on people
With their pretentious heels
They step with a smile
Because it feels so right to them
For they have nothing more in this world
Will never do more than put others down
So, listen
The hourglass of life drops its grains year after year
Whether you let these people effect you or not
Each grain
Is shaped by us
The experiences
Good or bad we go through
Like a potter’s wheel spinning clay
They’re shaped and reshaped by our hearts
By our feelings
Falling
Tumbling
Squeezing th...

Readings And Insights

She calls
She reads
She tells me things that she sees
I hear her fingers shuffle the cards
Fast they seem
They seem so fast
Flipping through my cosmic future
My life to be
Yet, looking at the present with eyes of the mind
The spirit
The soul
Her cat calls in the background wanting to join in
Two sets, she pulls from the sound of my voice saying stop
And she reads
She sees all that is coming my way
Good visions and positivity
Crossroads and searching within
I listen and respect the things I am told ...

The Convection Of God

Blackened clouds
Framed with an angry red outside
Push into the pale blue sky
Pale blue as an overdose
Still as a drug user’s body
That lies dying on a bathroom floor
The convection of God comes together
Like a rainstorm
And there’s nowhere to hide from its fury
Lightning will tear the sky in two
In front of you
Night falls and the blackness cries
Heat lightning dances without direction
Without prediction
Yet, always, with purpose
We may not see it at the time
But we eventually know the score
The convec...

Wendy O. Williams

Foot stomping
Chain sawing
Woman
Putting it in your face
Fist pumping
Sweat soaked leather clinging
Heels of steel
Head banging lady of fury
Oh, Wendy O, what a wonder you were
Yes, as you said, “I’ve got a reputation”
A nonstop machine, against the machine
Against the business of business
I’m sure
The ones
Making money off generic art feared your voice
Like a train rolling down the track
Like a bullet
Like a sledgehammer
Driven down on top of a television
Creating a short circuit of electrical explosi...

The Night Belongs To The Wolf

Some nights
Most nights
The wolf needs no sleep
For the night belongs to the wolf
You see, she sees
Her reflection cast in the dark water waving below
As it laps the shoreline with subtle soft brushes
Touching her hands and feet in the wet sands of time
All while she crouches near the dark lake of life
The wolf’s gaze catches the moon so full
So big in the midnight sky
As it sparkles atop each ripple of water
It shows like diamonds in her dark eyes
For the night belongs to the wolf
You see, she moves
Li...

Discontented With Death’s Roll Call

The blue water tinge of disappointment
The blue water
It sparkles a thousand reflections of my past
My friends that have been taken from me
By its dark deeps
Checked off on death’s roll call
13 left by means of suicide
4 by the blast of a gun from another
2 stabbed
8 last breaths from friends were taken in the twisted metal cars
Smashed into stillness dripping with blood
It’s a sight that never leaves you
3 drowned
1 played Russian roulette
The odds weren’t in her favor
4 were locked up for taking...

Curing

The hospitals create miracles these days
Or at least
That’s what they call it
I see, I see
What they have created
With all of their knowhow
The wigs covering bald heads
False teeth perfectly made for the sick’s now drawn mouth
Perfectly straight
Perfectly able to clinch a new cigarette
Or maybe they’ll smoke it through their new trach
Anything to calm their nerves
From the thousands of dollars in bills coming in each week
To keep them alive
But is this alive or a walking nightmare for the patient...
