4 Dinner Table Tips

SONY DSC

Here are 4 tips to help you on your way to creating a breathtaking and beautiful dinner table.

* Get inspiration from your existing color scheme and consider the colors of the food you will be serving. Determine how to bring that vibrant color pallet you have in your dining room down to your dinner table.

* Be creative and use hand written place cards. Why not? Your family and guests will feel special.

* Add a beautiful arrangement of fresh flowers in complimentary hues.

* Take your time and set your table the night before. Leave off the glassware until the day of your dinner party and cover the entire table with a clear plastic table cloth to prevent lint and dust from accumulating.

These four simple tips will go a long way toward ensuring that your next dinner party is a success. Your guests will be delighted by your eye catching dinner table and thankful you made an extra effort.

See Why Light is Important in Interior Design

I’m sitting at the computer trying to think of a cute & catchy way to tell you how important light is to interior design; then I thought I’ll just share this really good video with you.  It’s 28 minutes that will fly by because it’s just so interesting; and his British accent is nice to listen to, too. :-)  What’s your favorite way of adding light to your space?

Spring Cleaning: 4 Tips

SPRING

While you are waiting for the arrival of spring, here are four things you can begin to think about to get your home ready for the big thaw (at least on the east coast) :-).

1. Gardens – Boost your curb appeal. Begin planning your color scheme and the flowers you will plant this spring. Read up on the different flowers and plants and do something different this year.

2. Roof / Gutters – Ice (which can cause damage to roofs and leaks in the home), leaves, you name it, it could be up there. Hire a professional to clean them. This will help your curb appeal a great deal, too.

3. Foyer – The foyer of the home tends to be neglected and used as a pass through space. But, during warm weather, people linger a little longer. So, be sure to enhance the look of your foyer. Resist using it as a place simply to drop keys, mail, and take off shoes.

4. Entertainment Area – Company’s coming. People are just more social during warmer months. Is your entertainment area inviting? Maybe now would be a good time to de-clutter and organize your space.

Spring 2015 Color Report

Reprinted from Pantone Color Report ~ Spring 2015pantonechips

pantoneclothesThis season there is a move toward the cooler and softer side of the color spectrum. An eclectic, ethereal mix of understated brights, pale pastels and nature-like neutrals take center stage as designers draw from daydreams of simpler times. Remembrances of retro delights, folkloric and floral art, and the magical worlds of tropical landscapes restore a sense of well-being as we head into warmer months.

“Many feel compelled to be connected around the clock because we are afraid we’ll miss something important. There is a growing movement to step out and create ‘quiet zones’ to disconnect from technology and unwind, giving ourselves time to stop and be still. Color choices follow the same minimalistic, ‘en plein air’ theme, taking a cue from nature rather than being reinvented or mechanically manipulated. Soft, cool hues blend with subtle warm tones to create a soothing escape from the everyday hustle and bustle.”pantonecouch

2015 Color Trends

2015 3 pics pastel-color-trend-interiors

Painting your home can be a wonderful way to revamp your home and add a brand new look to your room. By simply adding new colours to your walls, you can completely change the design and appearance of any room. Whether you are looking to use traditional colors such as white or beige, or you want to use the most popular paint colors in 2015, there are many shades to choose from. Painting a room can be an easy do it yourself project that will not be difficult or take a long time. Whether you are a skilled painter or a novice, you may be thinking how do I learn how to choose the best paint colors for my home? Well the best paint colors for your house are going to be ones that blend well with your room designs.

The first step to selecting the best wall paint colors is determining the theme [or purpose] of your room. You may choose to keep the general décor of the space unchanged and simply have a different shade of paint on the walls. In this case you will want to stick to colors that are already in your design. However, if you are completely remodeling your space, you can have more freedom on selecting colors to paint your house. Some popular 2015 interior design ideas are decorating a room in modern or Tuscan themes. The top paint colors in 2015 are a pale pastel color palette, with soft whispers of green, blue, purple and yellow. Light values of yellow, red, and orange paint paired with furniture in wood or neutral colors can create a beautiful Tuscan appearance. 2015 chairs

Decorating for Christmas

There is something about the holidays that make most people want to deck their halls and adorn their homes with festive decorations. But, in the excitement of it all there are a few do’s and don’ts you should consider when it comes to holiday decorating. Take a look at this list and see if you agree. Festive decorating

Don’t wait until the last minute to decide on a color scheme. Everything doesn’t have to be red or green.

Do plan ahead so that you are not caught off guard even though the holidays arrive at the same time every year. Take a look at other vibrant hues like gold and blue and incorporate them into your decorating plan.

Don’t run out and buy new decorations. Remember to reuse, re-purpose and recycle.

Do call a friend or family member and exchange decorations you both may be weary of displaying in your own homes.

Don’t be scatter-brained with your decorating.

Do focus and create eye appealing focal points in high traffic areas.

Don’t expect everything you’ve packed away last year to work this year.

Do take a day to go through all of your decorations and make sure all the lights work and the bulbs for your candles have not been damaged, etc.

Don’t assume the batteries in your “junk drawer” will work.

Do purchase a new batch of batteries to have on hand, just in case.

Don’t be predictable and place the same old decorations in the same old places.

Do be creative and use your decorations in different spaces in your home.

Don’t compete with your neighbors’ outdoor decorations.

Do decorate the outside of your home with what works for you.

And, most importantly…

Don’t make decorating a chore. If you don’t feel like decorating this year then don’t. The decorations are not what make the holidays special.

Do take time to simply enjoy the holidays and all that it represents with your family and friends.

Ahh, SPRING! by Rena Bullard @ Redecorating By Rena

rena1March 20th was the first day of spring. It may be hard to imagine that spring is actually going to come this year if you are still cranking up the heat in your home and shoveling snow from your driveway. But, it won’t be much longer before old man winter will be sent packing (at least on the east coast). While you are waiting for the arrival of spring, here are three projects you can begin to think about to get your home ready for spring.  Are You Ready?

1. Windows – Your windows take center stage once the weather changes from cold to warm. Begin thinking about whether you will wash them yourself or hire someone to tackle the job. If you choose to hire someone, you’ll want to make an appointment now before they become booked solid. Consider what window treatments you will use. Undoubtedly, you will want to switch to a lighter fabric and different color value that is more conducive to springtime.

2.Carpets / Flooring – Our floors take a real beating during the winter months. Whether you have carpet or hard wood, or whatever, chances are your floors could use some tender loving care. Will you tackle the job yourself or hire someone? And, once your floors are cleaned, consider using runners to keep the dirt from foot traffic to a minimum.

3. Outdoor living area – It doesn’t matter what the square footage of your outdoor space is; what matters is that you make the most of it. Take a look at your outdoor furniture and determine what kind of care is necessary before you actually need to use them or if you need to start fresh with new pieces. If you have a fence, what kind of maintenance does it require? Who will cut and take care of your grass this year? If you have a wood deck, does it need to be stained?

These are just a few projects you can begin when spring arrives. Instead of looking longingly at the calendar wishing spring would hurry up, take this time to think about these projects so that when spring does arrive your home will be ready. Soon you will be able to enjoy your space – indoors and outdoors.
