The scoop on Clutch

I know many of you are waiting on Clutch. I really do!! And to be honest, no one wants this book done more than me. And it is written. It’s sitting all pretty (well not pretty because it hasn’t been edited or formatted) and waiting to see the light of day.

So, what’s the hold up (and why did Amazon cancel the pre-order)?

First, Clutch needs to kick ass. It needs to be the final piece of the puzzle that wraps up all the lose ends and gives everyone the ending they deserve (for the most part–bwahaha). And for the most part, it’s there. But seeing as how I’ve been “couch surfing” for…*counts on fingers* 5 months (OMG I need my space), well, things aren’t exactly flowing the way I’d like–in life or on paper.

You see, I work best alone–or as alone as one can possibly get with a slew of characters in her head. I need my own space. I need control over that space. And I need to feel uninhibited.

I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve been ALONE in the last 5 months for more than 5 minutes.

No kidding!! We had 7 people living under the same roof for the past couple of months including a three-year-old and a five-year-old who both demand constant attention. And everywhere I go–coffee shops, the library, etc., etc.–all present the exact same problem.

I have no mojo left! While I’ve managed to finish two books (Exhaust and Insurmountable) under these conditions, I’ve been getting slower and slower while concentrating gets harder and harder. I need my habits and my space, without which, I simply haven’t been able to function at the same level.

Second, I’m living in the same town as my family for the first time in 7 years! That’s the first time in most of my nieces and nephews’ lifetimes that I’m actually living within driving distance. I thought “hey, we’ll see each other more often!” But I didn’t realize we’d be living under the same roof for so long. And I didn’t realize that suddenly I’d be getting calls waking me up that I need to take so-and-so to school, pick up so-and-so, track down what-not, oh, and build 26 picnic tables.

What are these “family obligations” witch-craftery?

I’m not complaining. I have a lot of lost time to make up for, but for the last couple of weeks, I’ve literally been running around from the time I got up to the time my head hit the pillow. My computer barely remembers me!! Hell, my CAT barely remembers me (okay, so she remembers me just fine, but insists on giving me hell all night while I’m trying to sleep because I’m never home).

Thanks to all of this, I’m communicating 90% of the time from my phone (if I’m even in an area where I get service or wifi), and while that’s great for social media, it’s not so effective for writing blog posts explaining everything, or writing and editing a book.

The good news!

We FINALLY, after months of run-around bullshit got our house!!! We’ve been waiting for the lawyer and selling family to get everything wrapped up since mid-December and we’re finally moving in. The internet was just turned on today, I have an office, and I’m ready to go (aside from the fact that we have to replace all of the electrical wiring in the entire house in the next month).

There’s always something, but I swear that I’m not just slacking off, running around, and faffing about. I’m working my ass off in all parts of my life and trying to create a space where I can bring my readers even more stories and more characters that I hope you’ll love. And now that we’re getting settled, I should also be able to keep a more regular schedule!!

So, what’s next?

If you pre-ordered on iBooks, all is well because they’re making sure that nothing gets lost and working with me to adjust the release date however I need.

If you pre-ordered on Amazon, you’ll have to re-order it because they do what they want.

However, Clutch is coming!! And it’s coming as soon as possible!!

And *insert drum roll here* if you update your version of Exhaust now, you’ll find that the prologue and first two chapters of Clutch have been added to the backmatter. If you’re dying to know who *clears throat*….

Alex Grayson is originally from the south, but has recently moved to Northern Ohio. Although she misses the warmth of Florida and often times detest the cold of Ohio, she absolutely loves living in the north. Her and her husband bought a house on two acres of land and live there with their daughter, son, one dogs, two cats, eight ducks, and three chickens. She hopes to eventually get a couple of goats to add to their country way of living. Besides her family and home, her next best passion is reading. Welcome to my new home!

I hope you enjoy the new look of the website.

To you, maybe not much has changed, but the blog is no longer hosted by WordPress, so I’m having a blast with all of my new options and possibilities. Watch this space for far more exciting stuff happening in the future, and feel free to have a look around.

There are probably some glitches remaining from the transfer, so please be patient if you notice something isn’t working. I’m slowly getting to it all while I’m working on my numerous writing projects . I plan to integrate new ways to buy books–especially signed paperbacks–as well as new media and all kinds of fun stuff.

As I worked on transferring everything over and I browsed through some of my old blog posts, I realized how little I had been blogging lately. I used to talk about my goals and progress, and what’s going on, but this year, I just haven’t had time and sometimes, the thought simply doesn’t occur to me.

So what’s happening with me right now…?

I’m prepping for Rebels & Readers on November 7-8. My final signing of 2015!!
I’m working on about 8-10 manuscripts including Exhaust and Clutch. This is one of the reasons I’m usually slow to announce a set release date. I go where the characters take me, and sometimes it’s not the characters that I expect to have control. Instead of fighting it, I’m taking full advantage and working on several books at once.

I recently became an aunty again, and I’ll be having some serious family time over the next several weeks.
