TELL ME MORE ABOUT: Diving with SHARKS
Welcome to my new series: TELL ME MORE ABOUT: where I will be sharing resources from my favorite past adventures around our planet during this time when we cannot travel due to COVID-19. In the next weeks, I will share about all 10 trips in my recent article on Ms Magazine and I wanted you to have access to the photos, articles and videos that I produced from these experiences. For now, I hope you find inspiration until we can all begin to wander around the world again.

I learned to scuba dive in Monterey Bay in 1990 after I dropped out of USCF Medical School. I had some challenges learning to breathe on SCUBA but I figured it out and fell in love.
Some of my most favorite adventures ever have been under water! After working on cruise ships for seven years, I had been to nearly every Caribbean island except Cuba. I was thrilled to go diving with Avalon Cuban Diving Centers to experience Jardines De La Reina (Gardens of the Queen). Gardens of the Queen is a protected marine area and the number of divers per year is limited to under 1000. It is an area with 150 islands. We dove in the Southern part and expected to see Caribbean reef sharks, Silky sharks, sting rays, nurse sharks and healthy coral reefs which Andersen Cooper called a “Living Time Machine” when he visited for CNN in 2011.

I sat on the bottom of the tank in Shark Reef, Mandalay Bay in a full suit of chain mail and sang myself, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” I absolutely had a blast! Of course, you can swim with sharks in Las Vegas! Thank you so much to Beaches Resorts and PADI for including me in an epic scuba trip in Turks and Caicos for Dive-in with PADI LIV+ Event. We went scuba diving in the best locations and enjoyed all of the restaurants at Beaches Turks and Caicos. Dive-in with PADI is a Luxury Included Vacation + Events (LIV+) with five days of exhilarating aquatic adventures in turquoise waters. We saw so many SHARKS! It was superb diving and a great group.
