Candy and the CankersaurI had fond memories of reading Syd Hoff as a kid. When my daughter was born I purchased as many of those classics as I could find. She memorized the text of “Danny and the Dinosaur,” “Oliver,” and “Sammy the Seal” before she could actually read the printed words.
I wanted to honor that happy Syd Hoff feeling but replace Danny with a girl and make the presence of an actual dinosaur a non-scary logistical problem for the kids. I wanted to come up with a dinosaur name that evoked nuisance, a bit of sting… and then “Cankersaur” popped into my head. It might not be brilliant but it still makes me chuckle.
"Candy and the Cankersaur" was my first eBook. The first time you do anything is a learning experience. In 2012 I had fun doing the research on how to platform and distribute an eBook.
In the fall of 2013 I was further delighted when Glenda Funk saw the merits of using "Candy and the Cankersaur" in her classroom. Glenda is an English Teacher in Idaho. She took a shine to the characters in the book and the way in which the point of view switches throughout the narrative. My first eBook would now provide a learning experience in a real classroom! That was sweet as candy...
