Transcript:Hi everyone! Jennifer from Tarle speech with your question of the week.
I have a question today about the spelling o m e. How do we say this this can get a little confusing. Spelling rules would tell us that when you have the e at the end of a word the vowel before it is going to be long and the e will be silent. So if we’re following that rule, which works most of the time, we would have home gnome chrome and dome. So how do we say this? We’re going to say o. O O. Open your mouth, move to a pucker, and then close your lips for that m. OME. OME. OME.
My tongue is moving from low in the mouth to flat in the middle of the mouth. OME OME.
We have some exceptions here in some very common words. In come and some, we’re going to say the short uh and then the m. um um um. To say that short uh mouth is relaxed tongue is just in the middle of your mouth-nice and short. And then close your mouth for the m. Air moves out of your nose. come some
So we have home gnome chrome and dome come and some.
So most of the time when a word ends with come or some we are going to say it the same way. So we will have become, income, and troublesome. We do have exception here we have chromosome. You are going to say the long OME and end with the m here even though if we followed this rule to the letter we would think that we would say chromosome and we don’t. Um also another exception is we’re going to say a k for this ch here. So chrome a some chromosome chromosome
So let’s give those all a try:
home gnome chrome dome chromosome
and then
come some become income troublesome
So give it a try I know people are going to notice the difference. If you found this helpful we’d love a like a share and a subscribe. If you are looking for more help check us out at Tarle speech dot com. Thanks everyone have an amazing weekend!

Transcript:Hi there! Jennifer from Tarle speech with your question of the week. And this is actually a quick tip. Got a question recently how do you pronounce s t l e and we have a few silent letters here. We have a silent t and we have a silent e. So when you see this s-t-l-e you’re going to think about saying sul sul sul.
So to say that, the tip of your tongue is behind the back of your top front teeth and are pointing down. Air moves out of your mouth continuously. Then you’re going to move to that short uh. Really short, really relaxed, really quick vowel. You’re going to say that as you move your tongue to the back of your top front teeth and you’re going to hold it there. Technically right on that spot between where your teeth meet the skin of the roof of your mouth. Sul Sul Sul.
If this is hard for you, keep in mind a few things. Make sure your tongue is far enough forward for that UL. You don’t want it way back there. Also some people make this L out of their mouth with their tongue touching the bottom of the top front teeth that is fine too. Sul Sul Sul. Also you might want to smile as you are saying Sul to make sure that your lips are pulled back enough because some people will pucker their lips a little too much and then it sounds just like a vowel and no l. So let’s try this in some words
castle
wrestle
whistle
apostle
castle
wrestle
whistle
apostle
So give it a try I know people are going to notice the difference. You know what I like! Give us a like, and a share, and a subscribe. And if you need help, check us out at Tarle speech dot com. Thanks so much everyone have an amazing week!

So our words today are quarts which is a unit of liquid measure and quartz which is a hard mineral a rock crystal.
So to say these words correctly we’re going to start with that k sound. To do this tip of your tongue is low back of your tongue is pulled high up.
Next move to a pucker for that w.
And then we’re going to pull the lips back to say the or sound. You want to end that sound with the tip of the tongue very low in the mouth and the back of the tongue pulled high up. Yes, if you’ve been watching my videos you know you can also flip the tongue back for that er sound in that or.
Then you’re going to touch the tip of the tongue to the back of the top front teeth for the t. And then pull it down while you switch to letting the air continue out for that s.
Yes this is an s sound even though we do spell that word with a z.
Let’s put that all together

Transcript:Hello! Jennifer from Tarle speech with your question of the week and this is a tip, a quick word study. This question this week was based around a few words that I have gotten recently and I saw a pattern and that’s why I’m teaching the pattern this way. Typically, when we have a closed syllable in english, meaning it ends with one or two consonant sounds, that vowel before it is going to be short. Many of my students think this should be oh or oh. But in this case this is a spelling exception and a reading exception. We’re going to say the long o and you were going to say old and olt. How do we do this? You’re going to start with that o. Your mouth is going to be open, tongue is going to be low in the bottom of the mouth, then you’re going to move to a pucker. As you move to a pucker, your tongue doesn’t really have anywhere else to go so, it’s just going to be flat in the middle of your mouth. o o o.
Then you’re going to keep moving your tongue from the middle of your mouth to the back of your top front teeth for that L. As you do this, you want to think about smiling lips so that your lips are no longer in a pucker. Okay so it’s going to look like this old old old.
It looks kind of funny because I’m going really really slowly. It won’t look so funny when I try it in a word. And then we’re going to end with that d d. And to do that: tip of the tongue touches the back of your top front teeth, air puffs out, voice box is on and moving. For the t, same position, voice box is off, and is not moving. So let’s try those
old old old
olt olt olt
told
gold
hold
cold
bolt
jolt
colt
volt
One more thing someone asked me about, what’s the difference between cold and gold?
Gold: voice box is on and moving.
Cold: voice box is not on and not vibrating.
One more time:
told
gold
hold
cold
bolt
jolt
colt
volt
So give me a sentence with any of those words and give it a try. I know people are going to notice the difference. If you found this helpful give us a like and a share. If you need help we have products and classes listed at Tarle Speech. Thanks everyone!

How to Pronounce LOAD & LODE – American English Homophone Pronunciation Lesson
Learn how to pronounce the words LOAD & LODE with this American English Homophone Pronunciation Lesson.
Pronunciation:These words are pronounced exactly the same way! /loʊd/
Definitions:LODE: a rich source or vein of metal ore.
LOAD: heavy or bulky, to charge with ammunition, to put into or on a vessel.
Transcript:Hey y’all it’s Jennifer from Tarle speech with your two for Tuesday homophone lesson. Homophones are pronounced exactly the same way. They just have different spellings and different meanings.
Our words today are:
lode – which is a rich source or a vein of metal ore and
load – heavy or bulky a lot of ore, to charge with ammunition, or to put into or onto um a vessel
To say these words correctly, we have three sounds. Start with that l. Tip of the tongue touches the back of the top front teeth where the teeth meet the roof of the mouth. Air moves out of the mouth for that sound.
Next we’re going to move to the o. To do that open in a wide oval tip of the tongue is down back of the tongue is pulled nice and high up. And then move to a pucker. As you move to a pucker your tongue is just going to go along for the ride and it will end flat in the middle of your mouth.
And then touch the tip of your tongue to the back of your top front teeth and pull it down for the d, as the air puffs out of your mouth for that d sound. Your voice box is on and moving.
Let’s put it all together
load load load
lode lode lode
And now for a sentence:
The crew needs extra time to load the lode of ore.

We have homophones today. These words are spelled differently. They have different meanings but they are pronounced exactly the same way. The words are:

jamb the side piece on a doorway or window
So let’s take a look at our words to say these words correctly we have three little sounds!
Yes we have a silent letter here, the b, we are not going to say that sound at all. So we’re going to start with the j sound. To do this touch the tip of your tongue to the back of your top front teeth and then pull it quickly back into the middle of the mouth. J
Now move to the short ah. To do this open your mouth in a wide circle. Tip of your tongue is low. Back of your tongue is pulled high up.
And then end with the m m. To do this close your lips air moves through your nose. m
jam jam jam
jamb jamb jamb

Transcript:Hello! Jennifer from Tarle speech with your question of the week.
We have a little bit of a pattern study, I’m going to call it this week and it’s this o s t ending. How do you say it?
You have two options um I also added a few other words here that are spelled a little differently but you have the same pronunciation pattern. Okay, so let’s start with the general rule. So we’ve been talking the last few weeks about these o exceptions in closed syllables, typically, we would think that this pattern would be pronounced with the short o the oh and would be ost. We do have this in the word lost and in cost but there are times, and this is very common, when we have ost or we’re going to say a long o. And that would be in the words most, host, post, and ghost. Typically we see this long o pattern spelled with two vowels the o a and we’d hear this in coast, roast, and toast. Okay so how do we do this for this short oh. We’re going to open our mouth wide. Tip of the tongue is low, back of the tongue is pulled high up, move to the s. Air is continuously moving out of the mouth. Tongue is behind or just pointed down to the bottom of the mouth. It is not touching the teeth and then we’re going to touch the teeth for that t and air just puffs out. ost ost ost
lost cost
Now if we have this long o pattern, we’re going to say o. Open the mouth and then move to a pucker. Tongue moves from low um in the front to just flat in the middle of the mouth and then add that s touch the teeth for the t.
host most host post ghost
The more common spelling pattern would be this o-a-s-t and we hear that in coast, roast, and toast.
So again this ost we have a lot of exceptions to this closed syllable spelling pattern. Most people would think that it is pronounced with this oh and we do have that in very common words like lost and cost. But you can have the exceptions and you can have the long o in most, host, post, and ghost. And then we have the same ost but more likely spelled with o-a-s-t and we see this in coast, roast, and toast.
So give it a try I know people are going to notice the difference. If you found this helpful please give us a like and share check out our products and our classes at Tarle speech. Thanks so much everyone have an amazing weekend!
