A Little on the Personal Side:

What types of books do you read?

I tend to become more interested in authors than types of books. When I was young, I read nearly everything Edgar Rice Burroughs ever wrote, then did the same with Robert A. Heinlein and Isaac Asimov. I also read a lot of Larry Niven, Jerry Pournelle and Arthur C. Clarke. I was also always interested in history, so I started reading James Michener a...

Friends, Fans, & Followers

Sbooktacular Month went very well. The only downside was there weren’t too many new likes on the fanpage, so I’m pushing back the contest for another month as I’ve recently had a small spike. I don’t think many people who “liked” were actually doing so for the contest, so I’m going to reconsider my advertising for it and continue it out until the end of November. Thanks for understanding.

Also, I have a public profile on Facebook now, I invite all my friends, fans, and followers to come friend...

A Little on the Personal Side:

If you weren’t an author, what would you be? I was a clinical psychologist for about thirty years. It was challenging and worthwhile. If I were not an author I would be a retired guy looking for something to do.

What is your all-time favorite book? Actually, this is an easy question for me. My all-time favorite book is the book I helped my father write about his life. T...

A Little on the Personal Side:

What do you love most about writing? What do you not like? I love putting plots together. I love creating characters, developing their personalities, what they love, what they hate, why they are who they are. I basically love everything to do with fiction writing: from subplots to plot twists. I especially adore foreshadowing! Putting inside a quote, or a scene, a tiny tidbit my re...

A Little on the Personal Side:

If you weren’t an author, what would you be?

It’s funny, but some of the time I don’t consider myself an author. I have to remind myself that, yes indeed, I’m an author. For most of my life I wanted to write, but it was not to be until I took early retirement from my job as a psychotherapist. Now I have the freedom and the time to write. Am I an author? I guess I am,...

A Little on the Personal Side:

If you weren’t an author, what would you be? My dream job would be to be an editor for a publishing house. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree for this one!

What is your all-time favorite book? 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is my favorite, and has been for many years. The chapter with the characters trapped under the icecaps is one of the best plot devices...

A Little on the Personal Side:

What three things do you think your readers would be surprised to know about you? That an Author was not something I ever even dreamed of being. That I love to laugh, although people don’t usually get my dry sense of humor. And people would probably to be really surprised to know that I don’t have any inflated expectations about this project. I just had a story in me, I...

A Little on the Personal Side:

If you weren’t an author, what would you be? Authoring came to me late in life and by way of a different passion – herbs. Creating informational booklets about herbs are what jump-started my writing. A creative writing course offered by a local college opened up the world of writing fiction for me.

What is your all-time favorite book? I would have to say The Good Earth written by Pearl...
