Poem for Black Friday

Black Friday Blues

Black Friday

Civility has gone away

It’s been replaced by ruder sway.

A flat-screened TV is the treasure

relieves us of all sense of measure.

We elbow, gouge and snatch with zeal

And our true natures we reveal.

We cue up just to make the score

For some, even the night before.

Thanksgiving prayers and harvest reap

Take second place to discounts deep.

This madness runs throughout the season

And profit seems the only reason.

Consumerism fans the flame

But really, we are all to blame.

When shopping takes the place of spirit

No remedy can really cure it.

We stake our claim and make our plan,

For piece unearthed. Good deal to man.

Yes. civility has gone away

But doesn’t end with Black Friday.

30 Dogs, a Duck, and a Cat enter a…..CONTEST

THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING IN THE CHARLIE MACK CANINE CONTEST!

Dog Collage 1

Dog Contestants

It was so, darn, hard to pick one dog that captures the physical characteristics and character of Charlie Mack’s dog, Hamm.  Hamm is not a small dog.  Although, as our contest entries show, small dogs have confidence, and mighty good looks.

All our pooch contestants were ones with a lot of heart. A couple admitted they were too old for the job, and being an old girl myself, I fell in love with them. Hi Betty and Brutie!

Betty & Brutie

As the song goes:  Hamm may not be the dog some girls think of as handsome, but to Charlie’s heart he carries the key.  So our distinguished, regal dogs were not quite the right fit.  You know who you are: Windsor, Frisby, and Darcy.

Still Hamm is smart, protective, and lovable.  He likes to sleep.  A lot.  So the photos of doggies sleeping on the job, spoke to me.  Shout out to Dublin, Nancy & Lillie, and Quinn.

Hamm’s hair is more long than short, so our adorable short-haired dogs….sorry.

The Charlie Mack Motown Mystery Canine Contest

nick and norah james

The Thin Man’s Nick and Nora James are never far from Asta their terrier.  Columbo loves his basset hound.  Private Eye, V.I. Warshawski has a rescue Golden named Peppy.

The dog of a sleuth has to have personality, curiosity and patience.

In the fourth book of the Charlie Mack Motown Mysteries, Judge Me When I’m Wrong, Charlie Mack and Mandy Porter adopt a rescue dog. The compromise on a canine name came by using their first initials: MC––and, of course, Hammer had to follow. Dubbed Hamm for short, their male pooch is described only as a lop-eared, mixed-breed with a friendly tail and soulful eyes.   Columbo with dog2

Thank You, Amos Lassen!

I appreciate this review by Amos Lassen of my latest book:  Find Me When I’m Lost.

Thank You!

I am not really much of a mystery reader but Cheryl Head’s Charlie Mack’s series are something else. No sooner do I finish one, I begin waiting for the next one. She has the ability to create characters and plots that we love and look forward to— but sometimes it can be a long wait in between books. When a new one does come it is cause for celebration but I really must stop reading them so quickly.
