So ebooks have been oversold, have they?

It's time for a good rant. Simon Jenkins has been swallowing publishers' propaganda and talking nonsense about ebooks. Grrrr. Rant, rant, rant

So who are the English Defence League

Two extraordinary new books on the EDL, which many see as the embodiment of a new British fascism. Is it?

War tour: The incredible journey of Ève Curie

In 1943 Ève Curie's Journey Among Warriors nearly won a Pulitzer. It is one of the best pieces of reportage to come out of the Second World War, and includes vivid descriptions of the Russian Front, the Burma retreat, the fighting in the Western Desert, and wartime China. She met Nehru, Gandhi, Chiang Kai-Shek, Chou En-Lai, Wavell, Auchinleck and countless others. But the book has vanished; forgotten, and never reprinted. Why? The astonishing journey of Ève Curie - concert pianist, journalist, humanitarian and diplomat.

Being beastly to the Germans

I'm pretty sure I won;t get another proper blog post done before the end of the year now, so I thought I'd re-post the link to what I thought was my most interesting piece of the year, from January 2015. The story of publisher Victor Gollancz and his strange relationship with Germany. http://mikerobbinsnyc.blogspot.com/20...

Dog! review copies

Would you like to review Dog!? If you're in the habit of reviewing on Goodreads and Amazon, and think you'd like a review copy, let me know. It's a novella, 25,000 words, with a supernatural theme. Over-18s only please; it's a bit, well, bawdy.
