Students won't suffer if India revives ancient mental learning technique

Avadhāni can compose poetry, while solving a mathematical puzzle, answering riddles and playing chess – all simultaneously.A colleague once enlisted my help to get his daughter into a particular pre-school in Delhi, because if she didn’t go there, she wouldn’t get into Harvard. At the time I thought he was being facetious, seeing as the child was only two.In retrospect, I realise he may have been onto something. Desi parents will leave no stone unturned to facilitate the academic and professional success of their children (mea culpa!) and it can’t start soon enough.But are we doing it right? Are tuitions and coaching classes the way? Do our kids have to work 14 hours a day, and even if they do, are they working smart?Study techniques like Vedic Maths and the Japanese teaching method have been hailed as facilitators. Truth be told, we haven’t even scratched the surface of what our ancient tradition can bring to our lives. Inspire Internship talk at A.N.College, Patna

Giving a talk on Vedic Maths at the Inspire InternshipINSPIRE is an innovative programme developed by the the Department of Science and Technology in India to attract talent to the excitement and study of science at an early age, and to help the country build the required critical resource pool for strengthening and expanding the S&T system and R and D Base.

"Motivating talented youth to take-up research as a personal undertaking" by rubbing shoulders with global icons of science, is the objective of INSPIRE Internship. This component of the program aims at working as a life-long catalyzing experience for the 11th graders in science stream.
About 150 enthusiastic students from A.N.College participated in a 1.5 hour mentoring talk on Vedic Maths at the Inspire Internship today. We wish to thank Dr.Subhash Prasad Singh, for his kind invite and amazing hospitality.The Vedic Math Forum India

Vedic Maths in Punjab Schools

For once our education system has taken a concrete and correct decision in Punjab to implement Vedic Mathematics in the school curriculum. Period!
What better way to implement the Vedic System than to test the students on it. This Vedic Maths test caught both teachers and students unawares,on the concepts on basic multiplication, addition and subtraction by Vedic Maths methods.

Education Minister Punjab Dr Daljit Singh Cheema Teachers knew that students did not know how to solve these simple questions with Vedic math methods as they had not taught them the technique after they were given training in Vedic math from October to December last year. The 50 marks test was compulsory for all the students.
As lakhs of students of government middle and higher secondary schools took the test for Vedic mathematics for the first time in the state, Education Minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said Vedic mathematics should not be seen as an agenda of Hindu organizations, adding that it would rather help students to quickly solve simple mathematics problems.It will help our students whose reliance on calculator and computer is growing day by day even for simple calculations.  The education department has directed heads of all middle and high schools to conduct a test of Vedic mathematics exercises from Classes VI up to X. Shri Dina Nathji Batra welcomes move RSS-associated academician Shri Dina Nath Batra, a proponent of Vedic maths, welcomed the government's decision to adopt Vedic maths. "Formulae of Vedic maths make calculations easier. Today, institutions imparting training for various competitive exams use these formulations by using modern terminology for them," he said.

Tests on Vedic Maths in Punjab schools

The Director-General of School Education (DGSE), Pradeep Aggarwal has issued an order, which asks Punjab government school students from classes 6 to 10 to sit for a 50-mark Vedic Mathematics test on January 19.The test results will have to be sent to the DGSE office by 4 pm on the same day. Consequently, District Education Officers (DEOs) would prepare a list of schools, which didn't conduct the test and send the same to the DGSE office.
The motive of the test is to assess how well students understood Vedic maths, for a better curriculum plan in future. The school curriculum doesn't include Vedic maths as yet.

Mental calculators from all over the world are  invited to the 7th Mental Calculation World Cup 2016!
