A to Z Challenge - E is for Envelope

The A to Z challenge is to write a daily blog post centred around a different letter of the alphabet each day. I will attempt to write a complete story which will continue each day and hopefully draw to a conclusion when we get to Z.
Are the box and the finger somehow related to Mr Summers’ job as the head of a research lab?
For previous posts click a letter - A , B , C and D

DI McDonald walked into the lab to find all the letters laid out on a large table. They looked as if they had somehow be...

A to Z Challenge - A is for April

Everything about April screamed summer. Her fine shoulder length blonde hair, framed her face like a halo. She had a alabaster skin which served as a perfect backdrop to her cornflower blue eyes. Even on the dullest days a light seem to shine arou...

Changes

‘So that’s five pounds and fifty, sixty, seventy five pence change,’ Janey said as she counted the change out into Mr Johnstone’s hand.
‘Thank you dear,’ Mr Johnstone said as he carefully placed the change back inside his little pink purse.
It had been his wife’s purse and when she had passed away he had carried on using it for the weekly shopping allowance. Janey always worried about him as the purse never had very much money in it. Mr Johnstone had been coming into the little village shop as...

Family ties

Billy stood looking out of the window. His three grand children had arrived as they did every Saturday morning. Mary jumped out of the front of the car and carefully pushed the door closed. Martin, the children’s father, was busy trying to release James from his child seat as Mary stood patiently waiting at the side of the car. The Stranger

Since Davey left I had taken to wandering the streets at night. I couldn’t sleep and I imagined all the terrible things that could have happened to him if I sat in the house, so I had started walking. The advantage of city living was that the streets are always busy even at three in the morning. I tried not to be about when the nightclubs kicked out but even then if you kept your head down no one noticed you. I had been walking like this for the last four weeks, at first trying to find Davey...

The Mystery Cookie

‘Time you learnt your lesson you greedy bastard,’ the note said. It was celotaped to a little toy coffin and placed in the middle of Jimmy’s desk exactly where for the last four weeks a cookie had been placed. Jimmy had never known who the cookie was from but each morning he had eaten the cookie with his morning cup of tea. The first morning he had been a little nervous that it had been left by mistake but when no one had claimed it by morning break Jimmy couldn’t resist and he had quickly de...
