OctPoWriMo 15 - Almost

Today's prompt asks us to think about the word halfway. This led me to the word almost, which some have said is the saddest word in the English language. I think it depends on your point of view.

Almost

Halfway up or halfway down?Halfway there or halfway gone? Not good enough or close enough?Almost.
I’m almost there.I almost won.I’m almost done.
Almost.

OctPoWriMo 14 - Cheese

Today's prompt offered several quotes from poets past. I chose G.K. Chesterton: "Poets have been mysteriously silent on the subject of cheese." I did actually write a trochaic tetrameter that mentions cheese before, but I decided to throw together another one today.

Cheese

I have written of cheese before;I will write of cheese again:Cheese and bacon—I want more!Whoops! My diet’s down the drain.Cheez Whiz? Never! Icky stuff. All my dairy must be real. Now I guess I’ve had enough,Just until another meal.

OctPoWriMo 13 - Palate Palette

Today's prompt is colours. I believe that all (or nearly all) of us are at least a little synaesthetic. You may not physically taste a colour when you see it, but if I was to say that something 'tastes green,' you could probably guess what I mean. I don't have extreme synaesthesia myself, but I find the senses overlapping in my thoughts and in my writing. So I decided to play with that, and also with the homophones 'palate' and 'palette.'

Palate Palette

Red is fireHot and sweetCinnamon and cayenne
Yellow’s sharpWarm and tartCheeses, bread, and lemon
Green is gentleCool and freshCelery and cabbage
Feel and tasteHear and smellSee and knowColours

OctPoWriMo 12 - Desire

Today's prompt is desire. I wrote this in church this morning.

Desire

Deep within me burns a fire,Everlasting, strong desire.Surrender to the raging flame,I will never be the same.Rain and wind inside my soul,Ever storming, ever whole.

OctPoWriMo 11 - The Other Side of Love

Today's prompt asks us to write about "creating a better world for children."

The Other Side of Love

All life is of valueNo matter age or size; You can see the wonderReflected in their eyes.
Before you were considered,The Father knew your name.He will never leave you;He loves us all the same.
Anyone who injuresA child of God aboveWill learn, to their dismay,The other side of love.

OctPoWriMo 10 - So sick

I am so sick today. I spent the whole day in bed, but then I really didn't want to miss a day of poetry, so I put together a haiku. I didn't follow the prompt.

So Sick

My head is floatingI spent the whole day in bedSo sick I can’t breathe

OctPoWriMo 9 - A Poem

Today's prompt is 'Do I have to do this?" or why do I write?

Why am I writing a poem a day for 31 days? Am I insane? Most people don't read poetry or even like it, so what's the point? My short answer is 'I have to.' My poetic answer is below.

A Poem
A poemIs a song andThe music’s in my heart. My soul must singA poem.
A poemGuides my hand:Words formed into art.Such a beautiful thing:A poem.

OctPoWriMo 8 - Kill the Moon

Today, the prompt is the moon, and the suggested type is acrostic. I just watched the newest episode of Doctor Who last night, "Kill the Moon," so that's all that I have in my head today. If you don't watch Doctor Who, I highly recommend it.

Kill the Moon

Keep the lights turned on for life; It’s your choice to wield the knife.Let it live, you may end allLife on earth—you make the call.
Turn your face toward the sky:Hecate’s light glows from on high.Everything some time must die.
Make your choice—you have no time—Only, it may be a crime:One you always will lament, andNever can repent.

OctPoWriMo 7 - Hush

Today's prompt is silence. We were asked to turn all sound off and sit quietly for five minutes. My brain instantly went to songs and rhymes I knew about silence. I have linked to those below the poem, if you're interested.

Hush
Tell me how to start:They might take your heart. Now summer’s gone awayThe colours fade to grey.Hush
Tick tock the clock.Though try, you cannot talk. All the years they fly,And everything must die.Hush
What now shall we play? They knock. Please go away. What then shall we see?Quickly, turn the key.Hush
We laughed at fate now dead. The answer must be said. You scream unto the sky,And no one will reply.Hush
Inspirations:

Tick Tock Goes the ClockThe QuestionThe Gentlemen

OctPoWriMo 6 - I Will Fall

Today's prompt is perfect/perfection. I kinda went a different direction with this. Instead of talking about what I see as perfect, all I could think about was how my ex used to call me his 'perfect angel' and how much that bothered me. He never understood why, but I think I've explained it  in this poem.

I Will Fall
He told me I was perfectHis angelI saved him from… somethingWithout me, he would dieHe would fall

I am not the SaviourI am not an angelPlease don’t set me upFor I will fall

I am smallI am humanDon’t make me your idolI will fall
