James Burd Brewster was raised in Albany, NY, learned to sail on Lake Champlain, navigated a Polar Icebreaker in the US Coast Guard, and married Katie Spivey from Wilmington, NC. They lived in Baltimore, MD when Ben and Luke heard the Rocky Hill, Fireman stories. The family grew to five (Ben, Luke, Rachel, Andrew, Sam) and settled in Pomfret, MD, outside of Washington, DC. Ben and Luke are no longer 6 and 41/2. Ben is a Marine, married, and father of 5 and Luke is an Apple employee in Chicago, IL. Ben now reads Uncle Rocky stories to his children (Levi, Micah, Judah, Felicity, and Seth).

The first story will honor Commander Frank A. Erickson who was the Coast Guard’s first helicopter pilot and the first pilot to use a helicopter for a life flight. (less)

Our kids had a blast…moreThe books have an interactive middle section where the kids pretend to dress for the fire as well as the “Glad to do it!” ending. Our kids had a blast acting out each story and we thought other parents would enjoy doing the same thing with their kids, so we wrote our stories on paper to share with them. A Community College creative writing class, a local writer’s club, and a very helpful author/illustrator combined to show us that writing and publishing were within our grasp and capability. (less)
