Because, obviously, I have a death wish.
Connor walked into the kitchen. Glyn was leaning over the sink, his eyes fixed on something off to one side of the back yard. Still uncertain of his welcome in the house–Glyn’s territory, as Levi described it–, Connor stayed carefully at the other side of the room and cleared his throat.
“What, tart?” Glyn said without looking. The tone wasn’t welcoming, but it wasn’t actively hostile, either.
Connor took another cautious step into the kitchen. “I was going to start lunch.”
“So, start it. I don’t care.”
“I need the sink.”
“Too bad. I’m busy.” He smiled at whatever it was that was happening in the yard.
Connor craned his neck, but only caught glimpses of movement at the side of the window.
“You won’t see anything from over there.” Glyn shifted half a step to the right.
“Will I be safe standing next to you?”
Glyn shrugged. “At this distance? Probably.” He waited until Connor was beside him before adding, “Just in case, the first aid kit is under the sink.”
Girl, we need to talk about what’s happening with this series.

I thought I was going to be much more cool about this
But I’m not.
Actually, I’m freaking out. One moment, I’m ecstatically dancing around the kitchen. The next, you’ll find me gibbering in fear in the corner.
You see, I went to Goodreads to grab a copy of my blurb, because I was honestly too lazy to drill down through several layers of files on my usb stick, only to notice that there’s 10 people who have marked Bite Me Tender as To Read.
And I don’t know them.
So, I am literally doing the yo-yo/rollercoaster emotion thing.
Maybe they’ll say nice things about it.
Maybe they’ll hate it.
Maybe they’ll notice all the weak spots, because they aren’t actually just in my head.
Maybe they’ll demand a sequel right now. (I’m not sure that this one isn’t the one that scares me the most.)
The only thing I do know is that they have nothing invested in this story, except the time it took to read it and bit of pocket money. They don’t have to like it.
That scares me, too. I really like my boys. I like the story, but I really like my boys. And my girls. Levi, with his low-key sense of humour. Glyn with his sharp tongue and all those unexpected chinks in his armour. Gram, who quite properly terrifies me, in case she comes to visit. Even Bryan and Holly and poor Connor, who has much more depth than I could show in this story.
And so, I sit here, with a couple of half-wild tomcats fighting in my belly, and try to figure out how I’m going to get through the next couple of days without going completely nuts, instead of just mostly nuts. Because, really, at this point? I am completely powerless. They’re out of my hands.
May they find a happy home in yours.

Two more days…

Yes, I feel like I’m losing my mind. If only I had a dormouse in a teapot to entertain me…
I’ve pretty much set up the promo. If you haven’t commented on the Joyfully Jay post, you have until 11pm EST to hop over there and throw your name in the hat for a free copy of Bite Me Tender.
With the last of the blog posts and interviews for BMT pretty much done, I’ve finally got time to get back to regular writing. It felt awfully good to crank out some new words. It felt even better to have the Christmas novella for Loose Id start making a bit more sense to me. There’s always a point, just before halfway-done, when the work stops making sense and I start flailing around like a shark biting its own tail. I’m hoping that, someday, with a bit more practice, this little issue of mine will fade quietly into the distance, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it’s part of my workflow. Only time will tell…
On the bright side, I’ve added 750 words so far today to the Christmas novella and got a couple of delicate scenes mapped out well enough that I can work around them while the final details percolate a bit more. And I’m still plowing ahead with my bisexual rockstar.
On a not so bright side, or maybe a different bright side, the sequel to Bite Me Tender looks to be splitting itself into more books again. I’m not happy at all with that, but since when did Glyn ever do what I asked him to? Never. This is why I don’t hang out with witches. I’m used to being the most contrary one in the bunch. I hate being out-contraried by a fictional construct. There’s something not-quite-right about that.
So, to distract myself, I’m eating a bacon butty (in honor of my British buddies), writing some more angel fic, debating some karaoke with my rockstar and –HOLY HANNAH!–I just discovered Sherlock. So, yeah, now glued to Netflix. See you in a month’s time, probably.
