Review

There’s a solemnness to the songs inspired by the highly anticipated movie, Samson by Pureflix, that gently crashes into the soul in an inspiring way, causing one to ponder on the lyrics that mirror Samson’s story, as well as the lessons that bleed from it. The lyrics of each song drive with a wave that awakens one to the truth that indeed, “If you think you stand, be careful, lest you fall.” There’s a saddening, yet joyful backdrop to the album as it hits its intended mark—to awaken and inspire the children of God into acknowledging the truth that no one outside of God’s grace is untouchable by the Enemy who lurks around like a roaring lion seeking to devour God’s children.

If this album is anything to go by, then it already tells how awesome the movie is going to be. Each song is a blessing by way of a reminder of God’s truth that serves faith, hope and love that can lead to restoration from the deepest pits of despair, as the bottom line.

NEWS ~ Cameron James’ Born To Bring The Light Releases

Buy/Stream

Los Angeles (January, 2018) – DREAM Records is proud to announce the release of Cameron James’ sophomore single, Born To Bring The Light.  After spending time in the studio with producer Rusty Varenkamp (Ellie Holcomb, TobyMac), the two came up with this powerhouse pop track.  This song is about the revealing of destiny from heartbreak.  The powerful lyrics center around her family’s unexpected medical challenges and the strength that her faith in God gave her to face those challenges.

Born To Bring The Light is currently at Billboard Christian Hot AC / CHR.  To download or stream her new single go here.

Cameron shares more about the story behind the making of this song:

About Cameron James

Cameron James is a pop artist and songwriter based in Nashville, TN. She is signed to DREAM Label Group in Los Angeles. Her sound can be best described as a fusion of swirly synths, cinematic melodies, and lush vocals. She was featured in a coveted spot on Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist and has seen success in the film and TV world. Her song, All Out War, was showcased in a 5-week promo for the hit ABC show, Quantico, and her song, One Step Ahead, appeared on Bravo’s Vanderpump Rules.

Cameron’s first single, Beside You, was released to radio in January 2017 and saw international success with the single reaching the #8 position in Australia. Her much-anticipated follow-up single, Born To Bring the Light, is slated to be released January 2018.

In addition to her artistry, Cameron’s songwriting accolades include co-writing Danny Gokey’s single, The Comeback, on his GRAMMY® nominated album, Rise. The Comeback peaked at #6 and spent over 20 weeks in the top 10 on Billboard’s Christian radio chart. Her other collaborations involve writing and recording with talented artists and writers from across the musical spectrum including Matt Bronleewe (Plumb), Rusty Varenkamp (MUTEMATH, Ellie Holcomb, Amy Grant), Josh Silverberg (Jordan Feliz, Jesus Culture), and Joe Williams (Lauren Daigle).

When asked to describe herself and her music, Cameron responds, “Like most people I’m a complex person made up of contradictions, extremes, and tons of things in between. I’m a woman with an interest in facilitating a connection with things tangible and intangible. It is by design that I write songs that breathe heavy with layers…layers of life and heaven. I write about the heart and the heart breaking. The messages in my art echo the truth of it’s not over, have hope, and fight back. This new collection of songs is so much more than personal sentiment. They’re about belief and faith and my connection to the bigger picture of God’s plan for my life.”

She says, “I feel incredibly grateful for the life I’m living right now. Grateful I get to craft music for others and myself. Grateful for the people I have the honor of collaborating with. I’m grateful I have a family to love, and grateful that each day I wake up is another chance to dream bigger, encourage others, and to fight harder. I’m already blessed and it’s all still unfolding.”

Album Review ~ Through People Like Me By Mass Anthem

Genre

Pop/Hip-hop

Release Date

January 19, 2017.

Review

A lovely assortment of pop and hip-hop, Mass Anthem’s Through People Like Me smoothly entertains the listener—persuading gentle body sways—as much as the lyrics enthusiastically tell of the goodness and benefits of faith in a God Who is truth-worthy and praise-worthy. The song, Through People Like Me, from which the album was titled, is a fantastic reminder that God can raise and use anyone, which serves as a firm backdrop for the rest of the songs in the album.

Mass Anthem is surely a group to look out for, as with a release like this, they are carving out a niche for themselves that is sure to last if they continue down this path.

[image error]About Mass Anthem

Mass Anthem is a Christian pop band originally from the Chicagoland area now located in Nashville, TN. The trio is comprised of brothers, Chad and Tyler Sowards, as well as Joey Atansio. Their debut album “ALIVE” was released in June, 2014 followed by their most recent record “Through People Like Me” which will be released on DREAM Records in January, 2018. “We hope this new album captures our creativity and the energy that we bring to the stage every night,” says Tyler. “Our goal was to create a diverse album of fun, energetic music with lyrics that will encourage people to live a life for Someone greater than themselves, and we believe we have accomplished that goal with this album.”

Mass Anthem relocated to Nashville, TN in pursuit of furthering their music career and making roots in the Christian industry. “It’s been amazing making new connections with writers and other musicians since moving to Nashville. We know we are taking steps in the right direction and are so excited for what the future holds. As a band we always say, as long as God keeps opening the doors, we are going to keep walking through them,” says Chad, lead singer of the group.

Mass Anthem has a passion for the youth and the upcoming generation. They hope their music inspires today’s youth and encourages them with a positive message. “So many young people today put their identity in the number of followers they have or the likes they get on social media, rather than following the One who gives them their identity. We want to take back the youth and have our music point them to Christ and the freedom they can experience in Him,” says Chad.

The band cites Newsboys, Colton Dixon, for KING and COUNTRY, Hawk Nelson, Citizen Way, and Hillsong Y&F as inspiration.

Book Review ~ 12 Days At Bleakly Manor By Michelle Griep

[image error]About the Book

When CLARA CHAPMAN receives an intriguing invitation to spend Christmas at an English manor home, she is hesitant yet compelled to attend—for if she remains the duration of the twelve-day celebration, she is promised a sum of one thousand pounds. That’s enough money to bring her brother back from America and reinstate their stolen family fortune. But is she walking into danger? It appears so, especially when she comes face to face with one of the other guests—her former fiancé, BENJAMIN LANE.

Imprisoned unjustly, Ben wants revenge on whoever stole his honor. When he’s given the chance to gain his freedom, he jumps at it—and is faced with the anger of the woman he stood up at the altar.

Review

A simple, soft, and handsome retelling of Charles Dicken’s Bleak House—but with multiple twists—Griep pens with much sharpness and efficiency that bespeaks her craftsmanship and appreciation for Dicken’s work. Her thorough quips and hilarious gibes are smartly tucked into all the right corners of the plot. The characters are intelligently and neatly molded, as well as intriguingly unpredictable; the setting, a refreshing selection, and the final outcome of the story, a pleasant mixture of surprises and non-surprises!

Altogether, Griep’s 12 days At Bleakly Manor is a bold take on Dicken’s Bleak House, as well as his known perchance for real life-inspired tales.

I hear voices. Loud. Incessant. And very real. Which basically gives me two options: choke back massive amounts of Prozac or write fiction. I chose the latter. Way cheaper. I’ve been writing since I discovered blank wall space and Crayolas. I seek to glorify God in all that I write…except for that graffiti phase I went through as a teenager. Oops. Did I say that out loud?

Entertainment Scoop ~ Interview With Grammy Award-winning Producer, Glenn A. Tabor III

Glenn Tabor III is a sound engineer, music producer, and the founder of Gat3 Records, a studio that has existed for over 20 years. He has produced music across many genres and is the recipient of two Grammy Awards. He has worked with many artists across the globe and garnered much experience which has made him a favorite of many artists/labels over time. Glenn is also the founder of the Gat3 Recording Program where he has successfully taught Audio Engineering to a lot of people who are professionals today. Glenn took the time today to share with the world through TBAP his journey through life and in the music industry. Follow our conversation below!

Miranda ~ Hello Glenn! Honored to have you visit TBAP today. Please tell us a bit about yourself.

Glenn: Thank you for the great questions. I married my high school sweetheart, Susan, and we have two beautiful daughters, Madelenn Marie and Julia Grace. I started Gat3 nearly 22 years ago to work with artists from all over the globe. Since everyone always asks what Gat3 stands for, it’s just my initials – Glenn A Tabor III.

[image error]Miranda ~ How did you become a Christian? We’d love to hear your story! In what way do you believe your personal story and journey as a Christian can help inspire others?

Glenn: I became a Christian at the age of five. My father was a pastor, and my mother, a Christian singer. Selflessly, they have and continue to dedicate their lives to helping others find Jesus. They have been a true example of Christianity all of my life.

Miranda ~ At what point did music become a part of your life? What events in particular led to you becoming a professional sound engineer and music producer? For each case, is the story the same? Are you also a songwriter?

Glenn: Music was really always a part of my family. When I was a young boy, my mother went into the studio to record her first record. From that moment, I knew I would make music—there was no plan B! I’m sure I drove the engineers and producer crazy with questions. I do have songwriting credits and a publishing company, but I wouldn’t call myself a songwriter. There are MANY great writers out there, and I like to think my best skills involve bringing someone’s idea to life—making it the best it can be!

Miranda ~ How would you describe your early days in the industry? What lessons/principles did you pick up along the way that resonate with you even now? In what way has your journey in the industry bettered your walk with God?

[image error]Glenn: In my early years, I was relentless! I spent nearly every waking moment in the studio developing skills and learning. I slept only a few hours a night, a practice that still sticks with me to this day. Back then I recorded to analog tape! It was (and still is) an organic and multi-sensorial experience. We didn’t have unlimited tracks and takes like today, so capturing the moment was paramount. I still have several analog multitrack recorders, and although I don’t get to use them as often as I’d like, the concept of coaxing the best, most alive and genuine performance from an artist is a principle I still follow in today’s digital world. Diligence and hard work always pay off. It isn’t always easy, but your journey in Christ often parallels that.

Miranda ~ You’d been nominated a couple of times before your first Grammy Award. What were the thoughts that crossed your mind the moment you were called for the first award? How did this affect you personally, and particularly, in your walk with God?

Glenn: I remember the exact moment I got the call for the first two Grammy™ wins. It is certainly a great honor to be recognized professionally by your peers; however, it doesn’t change who I am or what I do. I’m thankful it has opened doors for me to work with more artists who [image error]want to creatively share Christ. I’m often asked, “Who is your biggest client?” The philosophy for me and everyone at Gat3 is “whomever we are working with today!” I want to honor and serve EVERY artist to the best of my ability, regardless of their record sales or popularity. God has always honored the sacrifice and hard work that my staff and I put in daily to make the best music we can.

Miranda ~ What inspired Gat3 Productions to start an academy? What do you hope to achieve through your academy? What do you believe a Christian in the music business can offer to the world?

Glenn: I always wanted to start a recording school. The majority of interns and applicants we received from the “big schools” just didn’t get it and that was frustrating for me. Anyone can learn to press a button, but making a difference requires so much more than that! My goal was to raise people up to be their best…to be who they were designed to be. When you can truly serve others, your impact and influence multiplies!

Miranda ~ Christian/mainstream industries are on the lookout for spectacular talent. How would you describe spectacular on the Christian front today? What would you say is the key to an award-winning talent/song?

Glenn: You know, it takes creativity to even call yourself a Christian. Originality is what makes things spectacular. That is difficult to find in our modern culture. We can be so consumed by looking like/sounding like/being like someone else, we lose sight of our own identity. Genuine and true creative expression is what makes extraordinary songs. Creativity is truth, and truth always stands the test of time.

Miranda ~ What would you like to see change in the Christian music industry? Do you teach these principles in the Gat3 Academy?

Glenn: This is somewhat related to the previous question in my mind. Our social media driven, fake and plastic world, is SO temporary. The better servants we are, the more effective our music and lifestyle becomes. In the Gat3 Recording Program, we strive to teach people how to become valuable to others, while learning the art of making music.

Miranda ~ What are you most grateful for right now and generally?

Glenn: I’m grateful for a wonderful and healthy family! My wife is an incredible business partner, who manages the business (and me) with remarkable resolve. My older daughter has become an incredible videographer and also helps with the day-to-day operations. My younger daughter is an awesome drummer, who is full of unique surprises! These three women love God, and have shown me what unconditional love means.

Miranda ~ What advice would you offer to a person who wants to go into the sound engineering/music production business?

Glenn: Make yourself valuable to others! And of course, take the Gat3 Recording Program!

The Fun Qs!

Coffee or Tea? Coffee, and the darker the roast, the better!

Gym or Outdoor? Outdoors, but I’d rather be in the studio!

Sneakers or Boots? Boots, but really cool ones

Running or Walking? Walking

Cereal or Fruit? How about a protein shake?

Music or Books? Music of course

TV or Magazine? Magazine

Summer or Spring? What happened to Fall?

Rain or Snow? Rain, but sunshine is preferred

Blazer or Leather Jacket? Leather jacket

[image error]Glenn’s Story

Glenn Tabor’s career as an Engineer and Producer has spanned many years and numerous musical genres. He started his career in the mid 90’s graduating from Full Sail University in Florida with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in engineering. An opportunity for a chief engineer position brought him to North Carolina where he started his professional career at a small Christian label. Glenn’s ambition and passion for the industry propelled him shortly after that, to start his own production company and studio appropriately named Gat3 Productions (representing his initials) in 1996. He built Gat3 to be a studio of the utmost quality with amazing spaces and some of the most sought after modern and vintage microphones, equipment and instruments available. The reputation that Gat3 has built over the 20 plus years since Glenn first started it is one of integrity, amazing sound, and warm environments.

Glenn’s experience throughout the decades of recording and mixing for artists and labels includes Pop, Rock, Christian, Bluegrass, Folk and Jazz worlds among others. After receiving a previous Grammy Nomination in 2008 for the Album, Tell Someone (Rebel Records), by Kenny and Amanda Smith for the category of Best Southern, Bluegrass or Gospel Album category, he went on to receive two additional Grammy nominations, winning both. He completed production work as well as mixing on the award–wining album, Oh Happy Day (EMI Gospel/Vector Recordings), including the title cut performed by Queen Latifah. The album took home the award for Best Traditional Gospel Album. The second album that also won that evening was Heather Headley’s Audience Of One (EMI Gospel), which was awarded Best Contemporary R&B Gospel Album of the year.

With so much experience in the Christian Music industry and the passion Glenn has for that style of music, many Churches, Artists, and Groups turn to him for his production and mixing skills in order to transform their songs and propel their music to a further reach.

Because of his love of the music industry and the process of recording and mixing, Glenn wanted others to be able to have an opportunity to also learn and eventually work doing what they love. In 2013 he started the Gat3 Recording Program, in the same Charlotte location as the studio. This program enabled those interested in Audio Engineering a way to learn the skills necessary to become an Audio Engineer at an affordable cost and in an intimate environment. Since launching the program, courses have been very successful and popular for aspiring engineers to learn from experienced and award winning engineers. Learn more about Glenn on his official website.

Bearing The Marks Of Christ

Every day the world becomes bolder in its rebellion against God and the order in which He created life to exist. It seemingly extends a hand of friendship with the aim to seduce you into its lifestyle, using alluring tactics that promise solidarity, peace and freedom. Sadly, within the world’s version of these very elements lie a web that entangles and causes one to compromise Scriptural principles, and therefore, rebel against God.

Galatians 6 exposes the truth of what the world does. Verse 12 says,

“Be circumcised that you may not be persecuted.”

Back in Paul’s day, being a circumcised Jew meant you truly belonged to society and could be welcomed into the elite group. Today, the rules are different. Christians are required to be more tolerant and receptive of things that Scripture forbids. Refusing to be socio-culturally “circumcised” may put you in a position to be persecuted.

According to the second half of verse 17, however, we’re told that we bear the marks of Jesus Christ in our bodies. Yes, so we should be glad when we face persecution. This was emphasized by Jesus Himself when He was on earth prior to Paul’s apostleship in Matthew 5:11-12 when He instructed us to, “Rejoice and be glad; for great is your reward in Heaven, for even the prophets before you were persecuted in the same way.”

The first half of Verse 17 tells us to not let anyone—what they say or do—trouble us because we bear the marks of Christ. The world is simply being itself, and you are being a child of God. Jesus warned in Matthew 5:11 that they would revile and say all kinds of things against us. But He said further, “Blessed are you because of this.” This, though painful, should be enough for us. Galatians 6:18 goes on to say a prayer for the grace of Jesus to be with our spirits, a grace already promised to us by God Himself (Hebrews 4:16).

In light of this, know your God and His ways and draw closer to Him. Discover what He has already said about you and fully embrace it. Do not be afraid of your calling no matter how scary it may appear. Rather, follow the path that He has set you on; His grace is made available for every single step that you’ll ever take. Do not be afraid to proclaim the name of Jesus as the Holy Spirit leads you to. Do good in love and in His Name; seek justice, love mercy and walk humbly with your God (Micah 6:8).

God bless!

Review

Hope Rising by Central Music, as the title implies, inspires hope and faith in the hearts of its listeners and to give glory to God. The music, in a beautiful way, is generally soft, and its lyrics, as gentle as its instrumentals are soft—a lovely combo to produce a different kind of Contemporary Praise/worship.

Central Music certainly has something good going on here. There is a lot of Contemporary Praise music out there, but Central Music has succeeded in creating a delightful and lovely sub-genre that has its own unique signature.

About Central Music

Central Music is made up of a team of people from one church, in many locations. We decided several years ago that we wanted to be a church that truly leans into worship. The heart of Central Music is to bring our people and others into the presence of God through music. We do this through Nights of Worship, our Weekend Services, and writing/recording original worship songs. To hear our songs and to keep up with the Central Music team, check out this page on our website. Also on iTunes and Instagram (@CentralMusicAZ).
