What better way to celebrate Valentine's Day than with a basket full of Romance???

Candy and I are creating a marvelous goody basket for Serendipity Cafe and GiftsWe told the owners, Lilian and her daughter Becky, that we thought it a grand idea -- what better way to celebrate Valentine's Day than with romance.  It's not complete.  Some other treats will be added - a bottole of wine, some chocolates and some CDs.  Then it will go on display at the Cafe until Valentine's.

Some lucky person will get enough romance to last them a year!!

the snowplow has been through four times since about 7 am - each time they go through the snow covers the road again in less than an hour.

A dress to steal an author's heart!

"Something quite interesting...Storybook gown constructed entirely out of recycled and discarded children’s Golden Books. Designer Ryan Novelline created the bodice from the golden spines of these classic children’s books and sewed together the skirt from their illustrated pages..."
What a wonderful vision, beautifully executed!!!

Say hello to Loki

It's 5 below zero here, with windchill nearly minus 25.  I mean cold!!  I made a snap decision to adopt another stray cat and so glad I did.  The gentle boy has been coming around Candy's for the last year and a half, and she had been feeding him.  Since Candy couldn't care for him while she is in the back-brace, I have been going over daily and feeding him.  He quickly came up to me for pets and we bonded.  Since losing Algie, I thought perhaps I could move him over to my heated carport so he could be safe once I made better friends with him.  Thursday I woke from a horrible dream of him being out in the cold and I knew I needed to move him now.
I went over and he was just going up the hill in the snow.  I called to him, and he came back.  He saw so pitiful, looking down at the snow and crying he was cold.  I stuffed him in a cat carrier and was off to my house.  He cried, scared.  I assured him everything was okay and he immediately settled down.  He was scared in the carport, but I put him in Algie's cat cage and he settled down.  This is cage that is covered by -40 sleeping back, has another sleeping bag inside.  He can come and go.  Which is he quickly did.  He settled in quickly and really loved his new home.  He was very warm in Algie's down sleeping sack.
This morning I was concerned because of this 20 below windchill.  I was afraid the carport wouldn't be warm enough.  I was right.  When I went out at 5am he was fine.  When I checked again a 7 he was shivering.  The windchill was coming through the walls like they weren't there.  So, Loki came inside...lol.
He is sleeping on the bed.  I put him in Boot's room, Boot's went to the exercise/pantry/laundry room.  He perfect pet, purrs and purrs.  He slept the afternoon on his back, sleeping with his feet in the air.

So the bad weather didn't get this one.  Loki already answers to his name.

I think I found a very special new friend.

I do believe he sighed mo dhachaigh a-chaoidh as I left the room.

Happy Boxing Day!!

Happy Boxing Day!!

In the States Boxing Day is ignored, but I think it was one of the special times of my childhood holidays.  Christmas Eve was all magical and giddy with anticipation.  It was tinsel and toys, boxes and coloured lights...and the breathless wait for St. Nic.  Christmas Day was family time.  Everyone would come, bringing more boxes and covered dishes.  It was lazing day around television watching Christmas movies.  The men would talk politics, horses or show off cars.  TM -- lol (Typically Male).  The females fluttered around, preparing the meal and chattering.  It was good to catch up with your relatives, and meet the newest additions (either babies or newly wedded in-laws).

But Boxing Day was the venture out time.  It was a day to go around and gift people who were special to you -  friends, neighbors or those who had done services for you throughout the year.  You would be welcomed warmly, giving a cup of hot cider, punch or hot chocolate.  You got to see their Christmas trees and decorations.  I thought this was so much fun.  When we were kids, there was often snow.  My grandfather had several old fashioned horse sleighs.   We'd load them up with the boxes and trek around to friends.  It was so much fun.  Sadly, we rarely see a white Christmas any more.  The poor sleighs are dust covered and leather dry-rotting.  Times changes, but sometimes not for better.

So I am sending you Boxing Day Blessings...though I am sure many in the US think Boxing Day is when you take all the presents back for refunds! lol.
