Oat straw bath for stress!

The gif above is oatmeal, I think…I just couldn’t resist because it is so cute! Oatstraw looks more like this:

Everything on my body hurts. I had trouble sleeping last night, as I fell down the news hole and continued to read about Americans being killed by police. I felt powerless, anxious, angry, scared…

I don’t normally lie in the bath and soak, but today I’m going to give it a try. Maybe I can soak all of this anger and anxiety out of me. Wish me luck!

Birth chart? For me?

redtash:

If you know me well, you may be surprised to see a post about astrology. I’m not much for daily horoscopes, but I do find astrology entertaining sometimes, and until recently, I had never had my birthchart done…because why? Well, I’ll tell you why. A few weeks ago I met a terrific gal who goes by the name Diz, and she and I really hit it off. I feel like she is a kindred spirit, and I just really enjoy her take on things. We share a love of the show Insecure and other interests, but we also differ in many ways (as the best of friendships do, right?) She generously offered to do my birth chart for me, so even though I’m a skeptic, I said yes. We had a really awesome talk, and she distilled our hour+ convo into a 90 second microcast on her ykyz show, Astrocast by Diz. She also sent me a detailed reading via email. It was insightful!  The whole process was pretty fun, and her take on me was surprising, but not untrue! Listen to the quick version and see what you think:

Magical Kitchen Witch skin!

redtash:

You see DIYs online all the time for gorgeous little cutesy handmade sugar or salt scrubs for exfoliating your skin.

How does a Kitchen Witch pamper herself? (Hahahahahahha, I’ll let you know when I get the chance to do some pampering.) I sure don’t have time to make Etsy- or Pinterest-worthy jelly jars of the good stuff. HOWEVER, that doesn’t mean I can’t exfoliate naturally on the fly…

image

Here’s my recipe for a homemade DIY salt exfoliator (you can substitute sugar if you like, but I don’t believe it is as good for your skin as the magnesium in Epsom salts.)

½ cup Epsom salts

olive oil, coconut oil, or other carrier oil enough to dampen your salts (but not too much…just add a little at a time until you get the consistency you like)

20 drops of lavender essential oil or other fragrant oil of your choosing…make sure it is not something that is going to burn your eyes!

I am so fancy schmancy, I mixed and store mine in this handy dandy sour cream container from my kitchen. (REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE IS BEAUTIFUL!)

This potion couldn’t be easier. Literally all you do is mix them together and apply to your skin. I think the shower is a better place to do it than the sink, so you can get it all rinsed off. Don’t forget your arms, elbows, knees, hips, etc. This time of year your skin is ready to shed itself! Help it out!

Now, go and scrub off the dead skin, feel thrifty and beautiful and fun, like moi!

Listen to this recipe on YKYZ.com and feel free to leave any comments or questions there!

“I am my own healer. I have a radiant voice within that guides me. I can make decisions for myself. I can rely on others as needed, but at my discretion. It is my body, my health, my balance, and my responsibility to make right choices for myself. Right choices include working with competent health-care professionals when necessary, allowing friends and family to help as needed, and, above all, being true to my beliefs, with the wisdom and willingness to change as a part of the path of healing.”

Furry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone...?

I’m so blessed today. The lady who came and cleaned our home a few months ago (Tim’s Christmas present to me!) is here again. She came with her own PPE and all her own equipment, and because she has even more kids than I do, I know she doesn’t judge me for my kids’ messiness! She is a godsend!!!!

Having her here reminded me of a magical find that has helped me quite a bit with the four dogs that come and go in this house. Because our family are essentially garbage people who strongly prefer animals to human beings, we like to let our dogs cuddle on the couch with us. Consequently, our gigantic eight-person sectional has become a shaggy dog bed that humans also share! Yeah, gross, huh? Oh, well. My dogs don’t judge. And, even my miraculous cleaning lady was impressed when I whipped out my magical cleaning rock that gets the hair off the couch.

I’m going to post a link here. It’s an affiliate link in case you decide to buy it. I love this thing!

I first heard about the carpet stone from someone who details cars. They used it on floor mats. Genius.

Works like magic on any furry surface. Totally worth it.
