Back from the dead!

So, I bet you thought I fell off the face of the earth.  And, really, I did for a few months.  Life happened and it was a crazy, busy, full of stuff time.  But, and that's a big but, I didn't forget about you guys.  I've been faithfully writing, although a little slower this time.  I want you to know that Book 3 of the Ghost Virus Series, titled "Sting", is in progress and I anticipate a release this year yet.
As far as the website....*sigh*, it was sadly a hard lesson learned.  I definitely am working on a new website but the company I chose to go with before was not what I thought.  So, I cancelled.  And here I am, months later, letting you know I haven't died or moved to a remote country.  Nope.  Just been doing life.
So, get ready.  Refresh your memories.  Anticipate the hype.  Because Sting is coming!!!  And it's going to blow your mind.  Twists, turns...things you just never even expected.  I'm excited and I hope you are too!!  And below is a picture of the cover for Sting.  Just to give you a taste of the awesomeness that is coming!  I'll try not to let so much time go in between updates this time!

Also, in other news, I'm working on a website.  It's slow going since I'm learning as I'm putting it together.  Hopefully, I'll have it up soon.  I have successfully completed an author page with Amazon.  So, now all my books, links to my Twitter account and this blog are all in one place!!

Here's the link for my author page:  amazon.com/author/aefield

The End of the Beginning...

It's hard to believe that we are here at the end of the beginning!!!  Within the next week, you should have Metamorphosis cradled in your hands while you snuggle up in your favorite reading spot.  I can't wait to hear what your favorite parts are!!
Well, let's get to it.  Here's the last teaser for Metamorphosis.  Enjoy!!

                                     Skyla
“What’s an avalanche?” I start to ask, but then, the wave of snow headed our direction comes into to view.
“Run!” Jey screams, pushing me into motion.  “Run and don’t look back!”
Digging deep, I push my strained muscles, daring them to give out on me now.  The once quiet rumble is now a deafening roar, accented only by the sound of cracking trees as it levels the landscape behind us.  In the distance, I spot the end of the ravine we’re in.  If we can make it there, the snow will spill out sideways instead of being caged in one direction.  That is our only chance.
I quickly glance in Jey’s direction.  He’s right behind me, legs and arms pumping at full speed through the snow.  I would try to tell him my plans, but I don’t think he’d hear over the rushing snow.
Pretty soon, I can feel the ground shaking underneath my feet.  The snow starts to shift and slither underneath my feet.  I scramble to keep myself upright.  A few more minutes will find Jey and I buried alive.
We reach the edge of the ravine when the snow catches us.  It flies upwards and outward as it breaches the confines of the mountains, flinging a massive wave of snow everywhere.  I barely have time to cover my face before it drenches me, like white powdered rain.  Suddenly, I immersed, encased in a tomb of freezing cold snow.        Brrrrr!!!  I guess I'm subconsciously already getting ready for winter.  Have a good week guys and Happy Reading!!  Next time I post, you will have a link to Metamorphosis!! A

Mushrooms...

Things were so busy last week!!!  I was on my bi-annual writing retreat and finished up a bunch of editing on Metamorphosis.  I'm almost ready to share it with the world!!  Are you ready?  I feel like it's Christmas in October!
So, this next passage is from one of my favorite scenes in the whole book!!  I cannot wait for you guys to read the whole thing but here's a sneak peek.

                                  Skyla
“Skyla?” Jey’s voice breaks through the darkness.  “Can you hear me?”
“Yes,” I grumble but don’t open my eyes.  There’s a strange swirling sensation that is making me quite nauseous.
“Can you stand?”
“No,” I groan.  My stomach’s churning now.
“Did you eat something while I was gone?” Jey prods.
The very thought of eating makes me gag.  “Butterflies,” I say through clenched teeth.  I remember eating butterflies; sick, morbid, black butterflies that are now swirling around in my stomach.
“You ate butterflies?” Jey repeats.
Didn’t he see them!?  How could you miss a whole flock or whatever you call a huge mass of butterflies?
“Did you eat anything else?” he asks curiously.
A rush of heat spills through my body and I barely manage to sit up before I empty the contents of my stomach all over the ground and myself.  Groaning, I lie back down.
“Mushrooms,” Jey whispers almost to himself.  “Oh, Sky.  Why’d you have to go and eat those?”
Hehehehe....I'm laughing because I know where this scene ends up.  Oh, how I love suspense!!  Anyhow, have a good week y'all and Happy Reading!!  I'll see you in a week!!

Hunted...

You thought I forgot, didn't you?  I could NEVER forget Teaser Tuesday!!  I've just been busy getting ready for my bi-annual writing retreat which I leave for in like less than two hours now!!  Woohoo!!  Can you guess what I'm going to be doing?  Finishing up the final touches on Metamorphosis!!!  Now that my friends is something to celebrate!!
In the meantime, a teaser awaits your reading pleasure...

                                Skyla

              Boom.  Boom.  Boom.

Jey shoots up from the ground.  “What was that?”
Crossing my arms, I give him a bitter stare.  Too bad it’s too dark for him to get the full effect.  “I told you I heard something.”
“Shhhh,” he cautions, slowly pulling himself up to a crouching position.
I follow his lead, raising myself up onto the balls of my feet, my fingers digging into the earth below.  About a mile away from us there’s something glowing, turning the golden grass into eerie, neon green.  Behind the glow is a large metallic structure that I instantly recognize.  It’s the Striker.  Bile rises slowly in my throat and I swallow it back, trying not to let my fear disable me completely.
“We’ve got to go.”  I pull on Jey’s sleeve trying to persuade him to run.
“Wait,” he says, shaking his arm free.  “Something’s happening.”
I’m pretty sure I don’t want to see what’s happening, but I don’t want to get separated from Jey either.
We watch the green light as it flickers in and out.  Finally, it splits into three separate beams and moves away from the base of the Striker.
“What is it?” I whisper.
“I’m not sure.  It looks like a search party or something,” Jey says.
“All the more reason for us to leave,” I reiterate.
Suddenly, the lights break away from each other completely.  One’s on the left, one is on the right and one is directly center.  It only takes a moment for me to realize the shift in direction.  The lights are gaining speed and they’re headed straight for us.
We are being hunted.
Crazy!!  Well, I'm off to write, write, write!!  See you guys on the flip side...oh, and Happy Reading!!

Parched...

Have you ever been thirsty?  Not like I need a swig of water thirsty, but like your mouth is made of cotton thirsty?  Nothing seems to satisfy.  You chug water.  You down a pop.  Even day old milk sounds good...well, maybe not that good, but you get my point.  :)  Skyla and Jey have a similar situation to deal with.  Let's see how they handle it.

JeyWhoever said that truth is beautiful is an idiot.  Truth can be brutal, unforgiving.  One glance at where we’ve come from is enough to make the strongest person quit.  I shudder to even think about what waits ahead of us.
Shading my eyes from the sun, I glance into the distance.  All I can see is an endless field of rocks teetering on the parched earth.  Cracks litter the surface of the dry ground like veins.  Just looking at it makes me long for the lake that’s directly behind us.  Even though the water is deadly, at least there is the visual of liquid to keep you sustained.
Skyla breathes out a sigh beside me.
“You ready?” I ask, springing to my feet.  It’s not that I’m excited about the prospect of moving forward.  I just know that if we don’t move now, we’ll give up.
“Ready as I’ll ever be,” she responds, pushing herself up off the ground.
For a moment we both silently stare out over the next leg of our journey.  The sight before me sucks the moisture right out of my mouth.  I lick my lips and swallow, subconsciously trying to convince myself I’m not thirsty.
“We’re going to have to find water soon,” I say.
“Yep.”
“I bet there’s not any out there.”
“Yep.”
“We could kiss,” I suggest.  “That might produce some…”
“Don’t even finish that sentence.”
My lips curl upwards into a smirk.  “It was worth a try,” I call over my shoulder as I jog into the rocky terrain.
A small growl sounds behind me, followed by the shuffle of shoes against dirt.  “One of these days, Jey,” Skyla grumbles.
“Let’s concentrate on getting off this island first, Sky.  Then, you can take all the time you want to plan my demise.”
“I think I will,” Skyla responds.  “In fact, that’s going to be at the top of my list.”
A loud bark of laughter escapes me.  “I’ll hold you to that.”

Hahahaha...Jey's definitely an opportunist.  I hope you enjoyed this week's snippet!  Happy Reading!
