Another great list of YA books for Hispanic Heritage
This brand-new list is on Stacked and it’s got a very interesting and comprehensive array of young adult books by Hispanic authors or about Hispanic characters. And, lucky me, THE SECRET SIDE OF EMPTY is listed. Click here to heck out the whole thing.

YALSA includes TSSOE on Hispanic Heritage Month List
YALSA (Young Adult Library Services Association) put out their list books books for Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15) and guess who is on it! THE SECRET SIDE OF EMPTY is in some pretty impressive company and I’m humbled and grateful. Check out this very cool list: click here.

Don’t block the box and other life lessons
This morning the George Washington Bridge is in a mood. That means that frantic New York-bound motorists spill onto the main arteries in my town, wandering wild-eyed, as if they think that perhaps they’ll find the secret passageway past all the traffic and into Narnia. It makes them act really douchey. I live on the […]

An open letter to an ex-spouse
I came across a beautiful piece from a man to his now-ex-wife on the day of their divorce. It feels so important and so fresh I wanted to share it with you. Link below. But first some thoughts. I definitely grew up with the “divorce is a scorched earth event” view of uncouplings. In fact, […]

That water in your glass is billions of years old
Perhaps my favorite story of the last week was that of the discovery that 7 to 50% of the water on Earth predates our sun and came from outer space. Click here for the full story. Scientists explain that the importance of this is that it makes extraterrestrial life more likely. I’ve been waiting for […]

Greetings from Baltimore County, Maryland!
This is my favorite part of this writing job… getting to hang out with readers and writers. Last night I was fortunate enough to be invited to the Baltimore County Library’s Cockeysville Branch to co-facilitate a workshop about the creative process. What’s best, I got to present it with two wonderful fellow writers, Jen Malone, […]

November
While I’m on a roll updating the “soundtrack of my life” section, let me share you a song I’ve been obsessed with (OBSESSED WITH) ever since discovering it on the HBO show The Leftovers. I wish this was playing behind me everywhere at all times. Sublime.

Stolen Dance
I don’t usually spend much time in the car, which is a shame because that’s the only time I listen to music. It’s one reason I love road trips: music. Should you ever pass me on the highway while I’m on a long road trip you’ll very likely catch me singing like a fool. On […]

I’m sure you have some cosmic rationale
Here’s what I learned last night… my new favorite song for powering through a LONG drive after a faraway book appearance is “Pressure” by Billy Joel. Being someone who considers herself a survivor of some stuff, I love the disdain with which he sings about the coddled and the soft. Gotta hand it to Billy […]
