Weekend Book Club--The Darkest Warrior by Gena Showalter

THE DARKEST WARRIOR is Gena Showalter's latest offering in her Lords of the Underworld series. I've been reading this series since the first book was released. (This is book 14.)

Unique, dark, and compelling. If you enjoy paranormal romance, you should give it a try, but I'd start with book one. While The Darkest Warrior probably could be read as a stand-alone book, you'd miss a lot of the history between the characters and the nuances that are in the story.

Tuesday Teaser: Mark of the Bear

I love all my books, but some I love just that little bit more. Marko from Mark of the Bear is one of my favorite heroes. TEASER: Reason tried to intervene. This wasn’t real. Couldn’t be real. Men did not turn into bears, especially not giant bears, the kind that hadn’t existed since ancient times. Impossible. She had to be dreaming or possibly drugged. Yeah, she was hallucinating. 
Unfortunately, that realization didn’t help her out at the moment. There was still a big-ass bear in front of her, his warm breath puffing like smoke from his nostrils when it hit the cool night air. Maybe she wasn’t dreaming after all. Maybe this was real.

TEASER: LEGACY FOUND

She was dressed in a tacky pink polyester uniform that hung on her slender frame. It was hard to tell her shape. It was mostly hidden by the bulky dress, which was zipped up tight to her neck and fell all the way to her knees. Her legs were bare from her knees to her ankles and she wore white socks inside her battered canvas sneakers.
The woman was continually in motion, pouring coffee and serving food. Even though she worked without stopping, there was almost a fragile air about her, as if she’d been ill recently.

He wasn’t sure that she’d even seen him, but as soon as her tray was empty, she tucked it under her arm and hurried over to his table. “What can I get you?” She pulled an order pad and pen out of her pocket.             
James froze in place. All his senses went on full alert. Her scent was ever so faint, almost as if she were masking it somehow. But it was there. “You’re a werewolf,” he whispered. He was so shocked he spoke before he could check his words.
 
The woman paled and swayed. His hand shot out to steady her, but she quickly pulled away, taking a step backward. “What? What did you say?”
