Kids Can Press was founded in 1973 by the Ontario College of Art to provide locally relevant children's material. In 1986, the publisher became a privately owned business, and in 1998, it was purchased by the Canadian animation company Nelvana. In 2000, Corus Entertainment acquired Nelvana and Kids Can Press.
