New book - Isca (Roman Fortress)

This is the prologue of my recently published 'easy to read' historical romance, 'Isca'. Hope you enjoy!

“The important people in our lives leave imprints. They may die or go in the physical realm, but they are always there in your heart, because they helped form your heart” ― Jules Renard

Isca– 163 AD

Branwen could see Marcus walking towards her through the spring flowers. She knew it was him, she would recognise his gait anywhere. He hadn't noticed her yet, hiding amongst the shadows of the trees. Ignoring the beauty of the spring around him, her attention was solely on the dark, handsome man walking towards her. Her man. Her love. She stepped out into the sunshine.

He saw her; an intimate, cherished smile broke on his face, his teeth white against his olive skin. Their eyes met and connected as he neared.

Her heart fluttered. Her stomach reeled. It didn't take long before she was wrapped in his arms, searching his dark brown eyes to find the love shining from them.

He bent his head, laying feather-like kisses across her cheekbone. “Such smooth, beautiful, pale skin.” his voice was husky as he moved to nibble the delicate spot on her neck, where her pulse was racing.

She leaned in closer, craving to feel his strong, youthful body pressed against her blossoming one.

“I love you,” he whispered into her ear while taking a small nip on her sensitive ear lobe, “I was born to love only you - in this life and the next,” he carried on whispering endearments.
His words ignited tingles down her spine. She could feel herself weaken, weaken with desire, weaken with...

Suddenly, anxiety began to rise within her and coursed through her at an alarming speed. Branwen started to grip Marcus harder, but he began to slip away. She reached out, desperation now taking hold. The force pulling her back was too strong, the link with his fingertips too weak to hold onto.

“Nothing will ever take us apart…” his words became distant, “…again…” He blurred away.

Branwen woke up with a start and rubbed her age-spotted, wrinkled hands over her face.
