THE FIFTH: Chapter Nineteen, Part Two

Here we are, the last half of the last chapter. I have written an epilogue, which I will post later. IF you've been reading along, I thank you for your time.

CompromisePART TWO (of 2)
The next morning, Lohen invited us to join him and Jyrrad for breakfast.  Conversation was polite, yet the atmosphere was uncomfortable.  Having read the papers, Jyrrad was apprised of the situation.  He and I discussed the nature of what his warriors should know and how he would spread...

THE FIFTH: Chapter Nineteen, Part One

Reading over this, it's a bit choppy. I haven't edited it as thoroughly as the rest, and I don't have time to do it now. My apologies.

CompromisePART ONE
“I am afraid.”  Lasidia sat on the end of my bed and twisted her hands in her lap while I dressed.  “I have never laid eyes on the man, and Father wishes me to marry him.”“I will not have you leave our land with a man who has not my full trust.”  I paused from binding my hair to sit next to her.  Gently, I put...

Regarding Rejection

Having an agent or an editor email you back and say, "It's just not for me," feels just as bad as if the email had read, "This is garbage. You suck. Quit." To me, that is really what it feels like, even when I know that those people (most likely) don't mean it that way.

Regardless of how much or little success one has as an author, rejection still hurts. Someone just told you that something you put your heart and soul into isn't right for them. Even if you understand that your writing isn't fo...

ReturnPART TWO (of 2)
Haalen jerked his head at the gate.  We passed through and went on to the stables where we unpacked the documents from Jorrias and Lord Worlenn.  As we started for the royal house, I heard the bells - signals of the return of soldiers from war - ringing throughout the city.  “It feels cozy,” Inokel remarked as we walked through the empty market and past the inn.  “Everyone must be celebrating the wedding.”“My people marry at sunrise. ...

ReturnPART ONE
We spent an extra day in Corvilon for Inokel to set his affairs in order and pack what essentials he needed for his new life with me.  At the start of our journey, I explained that, as I could make a pathway across water, we would not need to ride to a river ford.  We could cross anywhere and would be no more than three days away from my home.  With that in mind, Inokel set us on a horse trail that hugged an aqueduct and would take us most directly to...

“Take me, Inokel.  Take what is yours.”  I held his face in my hands so I could look in his eyes.  When he met my gaze, I grabbed each of our pendants and held them between us.  “I am yours for eternity.”“And I am yours, Sha-yan, my only,” he answered.I released the pendants and grabbed his shoulders.  Instinctively, I angled my hips toward him.  As his tongue slid between my lips, he entered me. ...

THE FIFTH: Chapter Seventeen, Part Two

This portion ends rather abruptly, but it was too long to post all at once. I'm not being a tease; I promise!

UnionPART TWO
The day was perhaps the longest of my life.  I was never prone to nervousness, but I felt something like eager anticipation for whatever Lady Kiva managed to pull together.  Following tradition, Inokel and I were not to see each other before the ceremony.  Thus, he was restricted to his home so that Lady Kiva had free reign of the royal house to...

I said goodbye.

I said goodbye to my cat on Tuesday.
Now, I'm waiting on a call to go pick up his ashes.

This chapter will be another three-parter.

UnionPART ONE
At the morning meal, the would-be assassin was nowhere in sight.  When I asked, Inokel said the man acted alone and that Linaad had dealt with him.  Still a bit shaken, Abbia thanked me for thwarting the attack.  I practiced saying, “You are welcome,” and “Think nothing of it,” in their tongue.Half a day’s journey brought us to Moyerra, where Linaad insisted we have a meal in his new home.  Inokel introduc...

TribulationsPART THREE (of 3)
Outside, Inokel introduced me to the couple from the morning meal.  The woman was Abbia, and her husband, and cousin to Inokel and Jorrias, was Herroh.  Herroh clasped forearms with me and then kissed both my cheeks.  As Inokel showed me to my horse, I surveyed our riding group.  Most of the men I recognized from my capture, and they all appeared to be re-growing their beards.  I wondered if Linaad had chosen them on purpose o...
