Text For Tired Eyes:
These are the days of dirt under the nails,
the hands in the earth and the smell of soil
that lingers in the air when dirty hands
feed tired mouths.
I have waited for this rain, the green
and the white billowing above it all,
the sound of my own footsteps
crunching foreign dirt on far away roads.
What have we found here, what will
fall into the lap of this day,
where will this head and the body beneath it
find a place to lay?
I will make things rise and feel them grow
and put my own blood into their green veins
if it’s my warmth they need to sprout.
I will hold you with mud stained hands
and cover the blush of you
with the slow dragged smears
from my tired fingertips.
You can have all I am,
take the decorated back I am going to give you,
the lazy swirls that came from a passion
that wasn’t lazy at all;
you can have all I am,
take the last drops of rain water
sliding down the sides of my face
and wash us clean.

She never wanted to be a symbol, she was born the way she was...

She never wanted to be a symbol, she was born the way she was born, the snow white hair and the perfect yellow beak that hooks downward. She had heard the rumor that it all began with her great-great-grandmother, spotted flying and transformed into an icon of Americana. Until her, they were just birds that loved the taste of blue sky. Her blue sky was decorated now with metal circles of chain-link fence, nets so her wings couldn’t ever really be wings, only tired symbols that have forgotten how to fly. How does an icon of freedom have theirs stolen away? Still she was proud, still she would not look at my eyes.

"Leave me alone," he thought as the water crawled across the top...

"Leave me alone," he thought as the water crawled across the top of his back. He could still feel the fingers on the soft underside of his chest, the weightless way he saw the world the very first time. It was when his eyes readjusted to the murky darkness, the truth spread swiftly through his mind: he had been alone so long, he forgot how to be held. He missed the attention, the light on his skin; he missed someone, somewhere, believing that he was beautiful. "Come back…stay," he thought as the final ripples smoothed.
