Text for Tired Eyes:
They may ask me to keep this a secret, to
forget to tell you, to spread not these truths
like wildflower seeds into the wind, to
pretend I don’t know the colors that will come
if we water them once sown, but I cannot, I
will not.
Here is the truth they stifle, the honest
reality that is hidden beneath airbrushing and
manipulation:
You are not your legs, your arms, your stomach
or your breasts; you are not your body, your flesh
or hair, you are not the weight you’ve lost or
gained over the years, over the celebrations
and sorrows, you are not the size of the
outside, but the magnitude of all that
lives inside it. Compare yourself to no one,
not even the person you were yesterday,
you are allowed to shift, to grow, to change your
mind a million times, you are allowed to fail,
because it’s only those that put it on the line
and forget about failure, that ever succeed.
You are not your body, say it to yourself until you
don’t have to try to believe it, until you let go
of the hatred and angry side glances you give
the mirrors you walk by, until your eyes
become nothing more than X-rays to what
lives beneath. You are so much more.

Here’s to the decorating of eggs with song lyrics and dye...
Here’s to the decorating of eggs with song lyrics and dye and fluffy baby chickens and ducks and jelly beans and bunnies and people saying Hoppy Easter and fake grass in little baskets and Cadbury and the slightly smelly smell of hard boiled eggs that won’t leave your house and the search for hidden treasures with strangers and tired faces from early morning and the general confusion as to how the holiday became exactly what it is and the overall slightly creepiness of the Easter Bunny now that we are old enough to admit there was always a slight creepiness.
However you celebrate it, or if you don’t at all, I hope you are loved and happy this day. Enjoy your Easter, whatever you choose to fill it with.

Chasers of the Light & All The Words Are Yours are Out Now!
Text for Tired Eyes:
I cannot understand how we came to this,
to this place of misplaced hatred, violence
by the pathetic and pompous prompting
from a man that hides behind the podium.
How did we come to this, how did the seas
that border us manage to trap in such
anger, such bigotry and prejudice? Can they
not see that when we stay silent at the
spreading of evil, we are no better than
those that scream in its support?
How can they not see that worlds went to war
to stop small men with small words spoken
loudly into swarms of sad and easily swayed
souls? Tell me they are not blind
to this, to the precipice we are standing on,
to the cliff that drops into a valley of
what has already come before, and we
swore on flags and gravestones,
would never come again? How are we here,
again?
I will stand here, back to the edge, to the
terrifying nothing below, and I will extend
my arms out to embrace those that
shout the loudest, to show them another way;
we are not beyond the point of no return, we have time
to right the wrongs spurred on by lies and
simple minded promises by a man
who long ago fell in love with himself. We
promised we’d never come here again,
and there is time to keep it.
