Isn’t it funny that strength and grace are so often found in the same creatures. Maybe one leads to the other, helps it grow like eager water to waiting roots. Maybe, they require each other to be what they both have always been, soulmates in the best sense. Forget not the grace, while strength is praised, for what is one without the other?

It’s poppy season, so I popped over to see if I could see them pop. I’ll be darned if the those poppy’s colors weren’t popping, and most of those crazy poppies had already popped.

This is a broken country, busted in a billion ways, but there is so much beauty here. This day is not about politics, about war, about the reasons we have fought, this day is about the bravery of those who fought for that beauty, who answered when called, and lost their lives doing so. This day is about the bravery of those they leave behind and the battles they face long after they leave. I am the grandson of a Marine, and I am the grandson of a Navy sailor. I am here because they made it out, made it through.

Thank you. Thank you to the men and women who risk their lives to protect ours. This day is about gratitude, no matter the rust and decay and splintered divides that grow beneath the flag. Thank you, for your sacrifices. Thank you.
