This is the great new cover for the print editi
on of ‘The Consequences of Preserving Outlaws in Arsenic’. I worked with designer Holly Henry on this. We hit Waterstones together one afternoon and picked out all the covers we liked in the genre – Americana storytelling – and then honed them down to a few. We picked up the sense of the colour scheme we were going for but the images of the circus occured to Holly once she’d read the book. She’s got a really clean sense of design while I’m a bit slovenly, so whenever she sent me the lovely crisp design I’d send it back asking her to make it just a bit dirtier looking, as though the book had been once loved but had been forgotten, neglected and a little bit battered, just like the characters in the novel.
I’m thrilled with the final design. You can see Holly’s other designs at: http://hollyhenry.wordpress.com/
