“Responsibility to yourself means refusing to let others do your thinking, talking, and naming for you…it means that you do not treat your body as a commodity with which to purchase superficial intimacy or economic security; for our bodies to be treated as objects, our minds are in mortal danger. It means insisting that those to whom you give your friendship and love are able to respect your mind. It means being able to say, with Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre: “I have an inward treasure born with me, which can keep me alive if all the extraneous delights should be withheld or offered only at a price I cannot afford to give.
Responsibility to yourself means that you don’t fall for shallow and easy solutions–predigested books and ideas…marrying early as an escape from real decisions, getting pregnant as an evasion of already existing problems. It means that you refuse to sell your talents and aspirations short…and this, in turn, means resisting the forces in society which say that women should be nice, play safe, have low professional expectations, drown in love and forget about work, live through others, and stay in the places assigned to us. It means that we insist on a life of meaningful work, insist that work be as meaningful as love and friendship in our lives. It means, therefore, the courage to be “different”…The difference between a life lived actively, and a life of passive drifting and dispersal of energies, is an immense difference. Once we begin to feel committed to our lives, responsible to ourselves, we can never again be satisfied with the old, passive way.”

Branches.
You’re the one I want to share all this with. The pleasures and the pains and I wonder if you can sleep at night, and if not; how come? What do you think about? Are you happier than ever before? And do I have anything to do with it? Or am I just one in the line, you could find something— or someone else to fill out the absence with if I pack up and leave? I want to tell it all, to you, but still I have nothing to say.
The silence spread wider and we go through our shallow ways, as if to describe the possessions in our bags, and my throats tightens up, trying to remember what I used to tell to this man, who’s voice I hardly recognize, now, after all these years.
Did we both change? a little too different?
Did you change, and I not? Or the other way around?
Is this all in my head?
Would we be happier finding a way to fit into each other’s differences, or would we happier going on separate ways?
I have nothing to tell you.
Where do I start?

Having friends on tumblr is really great. I often refer to you guys in real life as “my friend from england/autralia/california/new york” and it makes people think I’m very well traveled when really I’ve just spent a lot of time on the Internet.

It’s the way I thought my restless wandering was over, that I’d found whatever I thought I had found, or wanted, or needed, and I started to collect my belongings. Build a home. Safe behind the comfort of these four walls and a closed door.
Because as much as I tried or pretended or imagined myself as a part of all the people out there,
I was still the one locking the door every night.
Turning off the phone and blowing out the candles so no one knew I was home.
’cause I was never really well around the expectations of my personality
and I wanted to keep to myself.
and because I haven’t been very impressed lately.
By people,
or places.
Or the way someone said he loved me and then slowly changed his mind.

Fall in love with someone who appreciates the little things in life. Like the blue of the ocean, the calmness of an empty sky, or going grocery shopping at 1am. Fall in love with someone who makes the small things feel like everything.
