Isn’t it time?

As anyone who follows my blog knows, I indulge in the occasional RANT after something has rammed my tree and disturbed my usual peace loving nature.
The atrocities and disturbing events we hear on the news nowadays are not new.
They’ve been around for as long as Apes (especially Hominids) have existed.
What IS new is the ease with which these events are spread around the world for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear.
In fact, even the deaf and blind are also aware of them through the ‘miracles’ of technology.
This is why I thought I’d share the quote below.
Not to upset or disturb anyone, but to remind everyone that YOU – YES – little YOU – CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
Look around you at what Humanity has achieved.
Look around you and see what some ‘Human’ deviants are doing to destroy these…

Cyberbullies, Trolls, Mobs & Haters—How to Protect Yourself & Others in a Dangerous World
On Cyberbullies, Trolls, Mobs & Haters — here’s Kristen Lamb’s hard-hitting defense strategy against these draining life-forms…as she says: “Refuse to tolerate bullying. When we do nothing, we are enabling.” Brava!

As the WANA Mama, I am fiercely protective of my writer peeps…like Giant Kodiak Mother Bear Protective. I will and have gone to the mattresses for fellow writers who’ve found themselves under senseless attack.
Yet, as a counterpoint, I choose my battles. I love Sun Tzu, and have read his Art of War until the pages were falling out. When it comes to dealing with a formidable enemy, Sun Tzu is the master tactician. One of my favorite quotes?
The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting. ~Sun Tzu
A few days ago Psychology Today posted an article I found interesting in that 1) this article gives data to support what we all know deep down but 2) don’t want to believe. We know there is something different about trolls. They exhibit what is called The Dark Tetrad Personality—Machiavellianism, narcissism, sadism, and…

Editors God’s Gift to Every Writer.
The delicate relationship between an editor and writer…here’s what Chéri Vausé has to say…thanks Chris Graham!

Hello and Welcome Friends and New Visitors,

Recently, I heard of an author who put their editor through a word mill with a flurry of emails and argumentative assaults, grinding them into tiny pieces, nearly to the point that the editor began to wonder why they took on this particular author in the first place. It made me think through the delicate relationship between an editor and writer, and the unheralded art of editing. The colossal ego that communicates in such a controlling fashion may put so much pressure on their words they dull the fine point of their pen. What does that mean? I believe they fail to create that thin line of clarity, of defining well-written words from a sharp tip that makes each word they write so clear they each stand out and sing.
Few authors can write something so perfect that there are…

I’m Danny the Dog. I wrote an article for Chris a few weeks ago,(click on this nifty little unobtrusive and discrete link to see it)and according to him, it was well received. Of course it was. I wrote it.
Well, one thing led to another and now Chris wants me to write a monthly column (fourth Tuesday each month – don’t miss it!).
I like Chris. He’s a great help to you struggling writers, but I’m rather busy. There are two new dogs where we live and I have to see the cat up at the Tiki Hut every morning and steal . . . I mean borrow . . . some of her food. But because Chris is such a nice guy, I decided to help him out. I’ll be sending in stories that I’ve already written on my blog because I’m too…

I’m blogging at Romance Unversity today. Come check out my guest post, Reinventing the Cliche Write What You Know.
I’m super excited about this post. In it, I ask the question, what does “write what you know” really mean, and suggest an alternative application of this tired, oft-repeated piece of advice.
I’d love to get your thoughts, so hop over to Romance University and let us know what you think!
Cheers for now,
Veronica
Writing Tips: Being an Author: Pros & Cons

Today, I’m dedicating this post to her, because she is the reason I have become so passionate about my writing dream. Her memory has pushed me forward, time and time again, ever since 2003, and my passion is very much driven by my inability to give up (as I want to succeed for myself and her) even when my career was looking nonexistent.
As a writer, you’ll have pros and cons, even after publishing. (In fact, this list will increase.) Some days, one outweighs the other, and that’s perfectly okay—temporarily—but don’t allow one to destroy the other.
So I’m going to share how I manage my pros and cons.

In the good old bad old days, wrongly or rightly, writers were shielded by their agents and publishers from their reading public to maintain an air of mystery, and to shield them from the more repugnant elements of society, among other things. These days since the internet became reality, it has become a necessary tool for all writers to be able to let their readers get to know them.
Even so, as a writer you need to be cautious. There are a few drawbacks. The spread of internet trolls, armchair critics and pedants springs to mind. But, always providing the writer doesn’t engage with them, they remain where they belong, lurking in the darkest recesses of the internet fora. With the way the review system operates on a lot of book sites these days, they do their darnedest to put people off buying books written by every writer they hate…

If that wasn’t enough, she loves owls (so do I) and one of her blogs is called ‘The Owl Lady‘. She also has owls in her books, so, how could I resist?
Here with you, Viv Drewa!

Hi my name is Sally Cronin and I am writing this from my home in Madrid where I live with my husband. Before I was a writer, I was many other things to many other people . Now into my 60’s I am enjoying converting a lifetime of travel and meeting fascinating people into words in books, short stories and by blogging.
My relationship with books by other authors.
We moved around a great deal when I was a child with my father’s naval career and lived in some amazing countries such as Sri Lanka, Malta and South Africa. Luckily for me, my two elder sisters who were ten and eleven years older, let me trail behind them from the age of 18 months and when possible do whatever they did. Something that sometimes did not end well! However they were both avid readers and apart from wonderful bedtime…

What drives a writer to write?
What drives a writer to write? In my case, many factors, but mainly that my mind was driving me mad — too intense, too complex — i had to channel it or die…as the mystical Christ said, if you do not use what you are given, it will destroy you…that was certainly true for me..thank you so much Kate Jack for a fabulous post and to Chris Graham….

Writers are extraordinary people, no matter what the genre. They are driven to depict worlds, impart knowledge, and create, or write about characters that are real or imaginary. But what makes them do it? What makes them want to share their work?
One answer is, ego. We all have one, no matter what our occupation is. But that aside, what else makes a writer write? Is it that our minds are so full of images and ideas that if we don’t write them down, our heads will explode? Possibly. Creativity is a powerful impulse, to ignore it is folly.
Life, for most of us, would be so dull without it. It takes away greyness and replaces it with colour. It helps to transcend mundanity and widen horizons, leads to new vistas, and all the thrills and spills that entails.
So long live creativity, may it ever continue to reign :D
