India Boyer – Woman of Steel and Stone Honoring Women Architects for Women’s History Month

For this year, the National Women’s History Project chose the theme “Weaving the Stories of Women’s Lives” to aid in the promotion of Women’s History Month. Per their website, “This year’s theme presents the opportunity to weave women’s stories – individually and collectively – into the essential fabric of our nation’s history”. This month I will be building upon this theme by adding the stories of women who helped create our nation’s history beyond the fabric—with steel and stone. In my book...

Celebrating Women’s History Month with 22 More Women of Steel and Stone

This month, joined by The Library of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service, Smithsonian Institution and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, we honor the achievements that women have made to our world—nature and the planet.

As explained in the Women’s History Month website:

Women of Steel and Stone— Cincinnati Connections

10687488_808795069142573_5171598072427175471_oThis weekend I’m headed back to my hometown to attend Books By the Banks, a fabulous event with over 140 authors—many who have Cincinnati connections. I will be signing copies of my young adult nonfiction book, Women of Steel and Stone: 22 Inspirational Architects, Engineers, and Landscape Designers.

While writing the book, I was surprised to find several Cincinnati connections with the women in the book. And, since it was my story to write, I jumped at the chance to include every glimpse of m...

Engineering Careers for High School Students

This week, I went back to high school. I was part of a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) panel for career day. STEM Panel -w/ 2 Nuclear engineers

Engineering and STEM Fields for Girls

From a November 2013 Interesting Nonfiction for Kids post:

For those who haven’t seen the latest video to go viral,

here it is: GoldieBlox

The media has gone wild over this fun and empowering video.

The New York Times, The Huffington Post, The Ellen Show, and many others have been sharing the “Engineering is for Girls” message. I had planned another topic for today’s blog

post, but shelved it for another day. After

watching all the new hype, I felt a calling to jump on the band wagon and make

yet an...
