Why I’m the Poster Child for #WeNeedDiverseBooks / #WeNeedDiverseRomance
I know what you’re thinking. I’m an author of color. Ofcourse I’m pushing the #WeNeedDiverseBooks and #WeNeedDiverseRomance campaigns.
I admit that, like every other author of every color, I would love for my books to be widely read. But that’s not what makes me the poster child for either movement. It’s my #EpicFail as a POC (person of color) reader that illustrates why these movements are needed.
Today I’m over at the Contemporary Romance Cafe making my shamefaced confession about when it...

Happy Fourth of July
Today’s weather has been especially crazy, even for North Carolina. It was hot. Then raining. Then even hotter. Then raining again. But it turned out to be a great day, just the same.
First, I fell down the rabbit hole in a craft store. I bought way too many goodies in preparation for some giveaways I’ll be making for one of the lucky attendees at our upcoming Hot M.A.M.A. Fly Hat Luncheon on Saturday, July 11th in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Later, my husband and I attended a get-together m...

JuNoWriMo and Dreams of Beachside Living in Costa Rica
Today things have been a little crazy pants. I’m struggling with a physical ailment, working toward writing a 50,000 word novel in a month, trying to tame my garden gone wild and planning the untimely demise of an underground colony of yellow jackets.
Amidst the craziness, it’s also my turn on both of the group blogs of which I’m a member.
Over on Hot M.A.M.A. Land, I’m talking about June Novel Writing Month (JuNoWriMo) and some of the other write-a-novel-in-a-month challenges and why these...

What Comes After THE END?
As a reader, reaching the end of a good book is a bittersweet experience. I’m glad the characters have received their happy ending, or that the hero has completed his journey. yet I’m sorry to bid goodbye to the characters I’ve become so invested in.
As an author, working with a publisher, it was a great relief to type those two words: THE END. Once I finished revising and polishing book, I’d send it off to my editor and the marketing team, for them to do their magic.
But this time things ar...

Writing Advice I Wish I’d Known Back Then: Writer, Know Thyself
Today I’m over at the Contemporary Romance Cafe discussing writing advice I wish I’d know back then. Here’s a little excerpt:
Writers are some of the most generous souls I’ve met. Indie authors especially so. They are willing to open up a vein a share the lifeblood of their success. The lessons they learned at great cost, in terms of both time and expense. All one must do is ask. In minutes you’ll get a ton of responses to your question about the craft and business of writing.
However, the only...

Cupid, Psyche and…Mom #MWTease #Bad Boys Gone Good
Happy Hump Day, everyone! It’s time to take a peek behind the covers of books and works in progress of several authors during the Mid Week Tease, hosted by Sandra Bunino.
Raine surprised Melanie by coming to visit her for the weekend. She is thrilled to let him into her home and bed, but not so willing to let him into her family. Her mother , Ellie Gordon, would like nothing more than to see her married. The last thing Mel wants to do is give her a prospect on which to focus. However, when Mel...

Surprise Visits and Peach Bath Towels #MWTease #BadBoysGoneGood
It’s that time of the week when we get to take a peek behind the covers of published books and works in progress of various authors, thanks to our fabulous host Sandra Bunino. The past few weeks, I’ve been sharing excerpts from my novel, Making the First Move.
Melanie Gordon and Raine Mason finally acted upon their feelings for each other. Unfortunately, it was after Melanie got a promotion that sends her back to her hometown, which is clear across the country. Initially, she resists the idea...
