T.O.P.'s Tuesday: Modification for Success
Just like with Cancer, sometimes modifications need to be made
Hello everyone! I hope you are understanding and appreciate today's post. As you can easily view, my miles ridden is only 10, a tenth of the way to my 100 mile goal. I knew to ride my bike would be a challenge but I never expected the hurdle and challenge it truly is. To ride a bicycle is difficult. I have oodles of friends who live on their bicycles and log at least ten plus miles a day. I've always been amazed at them but since trying to ride my bicycle, I'm now in awe.As I think about kiddos battling cancer, sometimes the doctors and their parents need to modify their protocols and plans because cancer is as unique to each child as the child is unique. I'm not saying my challenge to ride a bicycle is anywhere near as challenging as life for Miss Lillian, Miss Emma, and other kiddos and their siblings battling cancer but instead of beating myself up at my failure, I'm modifying my protocol.
I hope to still attempt to ride a bicycle but accepting I didn't set a SMART goal, I'm making a modification. I will log both bicycle rides and walking because I enjoy the walking and have more physical endurance and feel safer on two feet versus two wheels.
The days I didn't cycle, for the most part, I have walked. I'm going to count my walking towards my 100 miles so as not to give up but to modify my original plan in hopes of achieving the goal. I don't want the girls and their family to see me as a quitter.
I'm sorry for letting people down yet to achieve the goal, a modification is necessary. I will log my miles ridden with a title of "Walked for Lillian and Emma".
Thank you for understanding! Have you ever "modifying" a plan to reach your goal?

T.O.P.'s Tuesday: I Need Your Help
Today, a sweet and young little girl undergoes her second brain surgery to remove cancer's tumorous return. She attended school until yesterday and her sister is in school today. Although these this dynamic duo is only in first grade, their strength and determination is greater than most adults facing far less stressful situations. While Miss Lillian is in Syracuse under the care of Golisano's Children's Hospital's talented and caring staff with her parents, Miss Emma enjoys the last days of first grade, sleepovers, and extra time with friends. Both girls traveling the same journey and similar yet different storms yet are so in tune to each other's emotions and needs. It's the twin thing exemplified and to watch their relationship offers encouragement, inspiration, and hope to me. I'm thankful to be on this journey with them and pray God uses me in ways only He knows will bless them, because they are a blessing I count each day.
As you go about your day, will you lift the girls, the doctors, nurses, staff, their parents, family, friends, and teachers in your prayers? Thank you! If you could say an extra prayer for me, to be "who" our class needs tomorrow as they are experiencing cancer in a real way, a way that no child should experience personally or as a peer. Prayer is power and God answers every prayer, thank you in advance for remembering Miss Lillian and her family, friends, and classmates.
"Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble,
and he delivered them from their distress.
He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed.
Then they were glad that the waters were quiet,
and he brought them to their desired haven."
Psalm 107:28-30
Please leave a Bible verse, quote, or words of encouragement in a comment below to encourage Miss Lillian and Miss Emma's family as they wait and endure the second longest day since the girls joined them.
My gift to them today is this blog...may all of you offer them the words needed at just the moment they read this blog. Thank you!

The Irony In a Title: 1 More Page but too Tired
My daughter and I visited our local library (which you should also do, your local library is not only a wealth of books, it most likely has great things going on throughout the year). She was looking to stock up on books to read this week so I meandered around with no specific topic or title in mind. I skimmed the drawing and painting books, a couple christian fiction titles, and then the librarian said, "Lisa, there are some new non-fiction." and pointed. I was drawn to this book, The Sleep Revolution. I have a love one with neurological sleep issues and thought it would be a beneficial read to learn how I can better help her. BUT as I read the first chapter, guess what, I NEED THIS BOOK TOO! I'm thankful the librarian pointed me in this direction and look forward to reading it this week yet as I struggled to keep my eyes open last night, so I could read one more page, I started laughing. I laughed so much, my husband asked, "What is so funny?" To which I answered, "I'm forcing myself to stay awake to read a book about the importance of sleep." We both laughed, then I put the book down, turned off the light and went to bed.
How crazy was that? I haven't read the entire book yet but it's good so far and I think there are nuggets within to improve my health and sleep, as well as my loved one.
Does anyone struggle with sleep deprivation or an inability to sleep?
Do you have a book and/or suggestion that helps you keep the sleep?

Father's Day 2016
As much as I'd love to share memories captured in photographs with my Dad, I respect his wish to stay off the blog so it's our annual stick picture drawing. Love you Dad - Happy Father's Day! Thankful for the opportunity to honor God and share His message with the Dads (and their families) in attendance at the Lycoming Methodist Church this morning. God placed this message on my heart and He overwhelmed me with the impact it had on the fathers and their loved ones.
I decided to share a snip-it with you here...share it with the men in your life that helped to make you the man or woman you are today and for the men needing encouragement. Happy Father's Day!
A father LEADS...
“The godly walk with integrity;
blessed are their children
who follow them.”
Proverbs 20:7 NLT
A father TEACHES...“My children, listen when your father corrects you.
Pay attention and learn good judgment,
for I am giving you good guidance.
Don’t turn away from my instructions.”
Proverbs 4:1-2 NLT
A father PROVIDES...
“Think of it this way: if your son asked you for bread, would you give him a stone? Of course not—you would give him a loaf of bread. If your son asked for a fish, would you give him a snake? No, to be sure, you would give him a fish—the best fish you could find. So if you, who are sinful, know how to give your children good gifts, how much more so does your Father in heaven, who is perfect, know how to give great gifts to His children!” Matthew 7:9-11 Voice
A father DISCIPLINES...
“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:1-3 NIV
A father PROTECTS...“For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.” Deuteronomy 20:4 NIV
"You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed." Psalm 139:16 NLT
You are our super hero, and you have the
capital "S" and capital "H"
Super Hero as a model...GOD!
A father LOVES and FORGIVES...As a father has compassion on his children,
so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed,
he remembers that we are dust.
The life of mortals is like grass,
they flourish like a flower of the field;
the wind blows over it and it is gone,
and its place remembers it no more.
But from everlasting to everlasting
the Lord’s love is with those who fear him,
and his righteousness with their children’s children— with those who keep his covenant
and remember to obey his precepts.
Psalm 103:13-18 NIV
A father LEAVES A LEGACY...
“I have no greater joy than to hear
that my children are walking in the truth.”
3 John 4 NIV
Dads, you are amazing, have the most difficult job
AND you have THE PERFECT Role Model...
our Father and God in Heaven.
Thanks for all you do!!
What legacy will you leave the children
and people you meet today and the days into the future?

"Kicking Cancer's Butt" Time Two
I ride for a 6 year-old childhood cancer warrior & her twin. Meet Lillian (left) & Emma Belfield. They are two of the strongest girls. They inspire me every day! For the month of June I plan to dust off my bicycle after a decade of storage and ride to fight childhood cancer. Miss Lillian's diagnosis of anaplastic astroblastoma brain cancer in January 2015 has not stopped her. Her determination to remain in school during her treatment and her involvement with intramural sports with her sister outside the school day.Lillian might have cancer but cancer doesn't have her, she is a fighter. Her sister Emma is a fighter too. Childhood cancer is difficult in itself but to have your twin experience it alongside you must be a challenge outside anyone's understanding. Emma's grace and understanding is profound and an example to anyone who sees her. I'm in awe of Miss Emma's strength. My 1st time on a bike since my daughter is 5 is to honor these two amazing young ladies and their battle.
I know I'm less than a tenth of the way to reaching my (not so SMART) goal to ride 100 miles but my desire and determination to help Miss Lillian and her sister is 100% strong and full speed. I'm thankful my heart has more endurance than my body to ride a bicycle 100 miles. Thank you in advance! Hi,This month, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge and my goal is to pedal 100 miles throughout June to fight kids' cancer.
Why am I doing this? Because cancer is the largest killer of children from disease in the United States – 38 children die of cancer every week!
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
And today is Kick Cancer's Butt Day, where ALL donations will be matched by supporters of the charity - please sponsor me today and your donation will be DOUBLED!
Simply click the link below to view my personal fundraising page and make a donation:

All funds raised will support Children's Cancer Research Fund to continue their work to develop innovative treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.
Thanks for your support.
Lisa Thank you in advance!

Are You Watching Through A Camera Lens?
A couple weeks ago we watched our daughter dance her last recital as a high school student. It was a wonderful afternoon. As I watched her, I remembered her first recital, dressed in her little yellow and black bumble bee looking costume then I looked up and a beautiful young lady appeared before my eyes. I started to take pictures (as I always do) but found myself so caught up in watching her dance during the recital, I only took a few pictures. At first I was disappointed with myself but then I realized something, I watched and enjoyed most of her memorable moments from behind a camera lens. There are some things we can't capture on film, the vibrance of a sunset for example is never as breathtaking on film or in paint as it is when you see it first hand. Rather than focus on my lack of pictures I decided to celebrate putting my camera down for the first time.
Her movement and growth as a dancer was amazing. No matter how many pics I took, not a one could replace the joy and love I feel in my heart when I think about watching her beautiful solo to express how she sees herself in the world and in the future. It was powerful and awe-inspiring. I'm thankful to have oodles and oodles of pictures of our girl growing up yet when I think about setting my camera down for a time, I'm glad I did. Some things can't be caught on film, God only intended them to be seen and felt with our heart when we are totally focused. Have you set your camera down lately? What is your favorite moment captured & why?

Beauty and Benefits of the Wind
This morning's storm and winds moved out so the sun could shine. A gentle wind remained. I thought about the effect of something I find calming and beautiful, and how it has a reverse effect on someone I adore. Do you have an encouraging word, Bible verse, or folktale about the benefit, beauty, or courage one can find with and in the wind? #wsite-video-container-851184107152524385{ background: url(//www.weebly.comhttp://www.lisambuske.c... } #video-iframe-851184107152524385{ background: url(//cdn2.editmysite.com/images/util/video... } #wsite-video-container-851184107152524385, #video-iframe-851184107152524385{ background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position:center; } @media only screen and (-webkit-min-device-pixel-ratio: 2), only screen and ( min-device-pixel-ratio: 2), only screen and ( min-resolution: 192dpi), only screen and ( min-resolution: 2dppx) { #video-iframe-851184107152524385{ background: url(//cdn2.editmysite.com/images/util/video... background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position:center; background-size: 70px 70px; } } Leave a comment below to encourage someone afraid of the wind...

JP Morgan Corporate Challenge 2016
" Don’t be anxious about things; instead,
pray. Pray about everything.
He longs to hear your requests,
so talk to God about your needs
and be thankful for what has come.
And know that the peace of God
(a peace that is beyond any and
all of our human understanding)
will stand watch over
your hearts and minds
in Jesus, the Anointed One.
I can be content in any and every situation
through the Anointed One
who is my power and strength."
Philippians 4:6-7, 13 Voice
Our school district is pretty cool (Is cool still a hip word? Wait, does anyone still use "hip"?) district and dedicates time and effort for staff synergy, team building, or fellowship - whatever term you prefer. Last night some of us participated in the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge in Syracuse, New York. Some of our MACS Peeps were in the top places, woo hoo! I was #2,126 out of almost 7,000 runners and walkers, with a time of 50 minutes and change. I'm tickled at my time for 3 1/2 miles. I even jogged a little. My friends were warmed up and ready to run but I just couldn't do it so I encouraged them to go and I'd see them at the finish. I enjoyed the laughter, conversation, and fellowship of the entire afternoon and evening. Yet the moment I thought about as we drove home and the sun was setting, with beautiful transitions of color capturing our attention and stopping conversation, was my quiet time on the walk. You are probably wondering how you can have quiet time with almost 7,000 people running and walking all around you, but it's possible. The above verses from Philippians kept coming to mind. I found myself looking up and praying these verses over and over.
Why do I share this with you? I'm not sure really, other than to encourage you it is possible to pray regardless of where you are and how many people are around. The time with friends and colleagues was great and memorable yet I woke up thinking about watching the clouds and these verses echoing in my thoughts. I'm thankful to have the best of both worlds, good friends and a great God.
To View JP Morgan Corporate Challenge Finishing Times - Click HERE Today is a touch chilly and we have our "play days" at school. I hope the rain holds off so the kids can enjoy this, its a favorite tradition in our district. I have jeans, my fleece, and camera ready to celebrate play days. Remember to "sharpen your saw" (take care of yourself and do something you enjoy) and make memories. Heidi's kidnapping, cancer diagnosis', and tragedy remind me not to take anything for granted because tomorrow, or even a minute from now, are not a guarantee. What do you think about
when you walk/run in a race like this?

T.O.P.'s Tuesday: One Thing To Accomplish
T.O.P.'s Tuesday started as a weekly focus on the memories of Heidi and the publication of my first book,
Where's Heidi? One Sister's Journey
. Over the years it has developed into the one day a week I share some of the things closer to my heart and writing and speaking tidbits. Today I encourage you to think about the one thing you hope to accomplish this month. My "one" thing, although there is always a list (or two, lol) maintained in my life, there is one I am determined to achieve and succeed with. Last month I decided to join the Great Cycle Challenge to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research. They allow each participant to set their own goals. Since I haven't been on my bicycle much since our daughter was five, I started small (or so I thought) with 100 miles, this averages to about 3.5 miles a day. If you visit my page, click here, you'll notice I'm below where I need to be BUT I assure you I plan to persevere. My initial goal was 50 miles and I thought that was kind of wimpy but now I'm thinking for me, it was more realistic. Yet with Miss Lillian's brain cancer return, I am reminded, the #GCCUSA is meant to be a challenge so I'm thankful for not taking the easy way out.
My goal to ride 100 miles for Miss Lillian and her twin sister, Miss Emma is the ONE thing I'm striving to acccomplish this month. If you'd like to follow my journey, visit my Great Cycle Challenge Page by Clicking Here. If you'd like to donate to help me reach my $500 goal, thank you so much. The monies are used to fund cancerresearch for kids!! These are the strongest, most determined, and inspirational little fighters a person will meet in a life time.
I've traveled the cancer journey with great aunts, aunts, a friend, and then my Mom this past year. Their strength and will to fight amazed me but there is something in the eyes and spirit of a diagnosed child and their family that touches your heart and life in a way you can't put into words. I ride this month for Miss Lillian and her twin sister, Miss Emma. Cancer doesn't only effect the diagnosed, the entire family and community are touched and affected.
I dedicate this blog, song, and this month's ride to Miss Lillian and Miss Emma! You've got this ladies! What is your ONE thing this month?
