I Love the Lake!

Picture To make memories is such a joy
Especially with Lake Ontario near by
We visited a few of our favorite spots to enjoy
Yet we missed the all famous Rudy's Fish Fry

Our weekend together was a success
A visit with friends left little mess
Without the need to impress
Creates natural memories and these are priceless When company visits, where do you make memories?

"Examine Your Faith" - An Interview

Picture What do you hope readers will gain from your book?
Examine Your Faith! Finding Truth in a World of Lies, takes readers through an inductive process to honestly reconsider what they believe and why they believe it. My goal is for them to intentionally arrive at a confident faith conviction. Since what we believe to be true, dictates every decision we make in life and as most believe, has direct bearing on our eternal life, it is extremely important to have a confident faith conviction.

Why do you think people need help in having a confident faith conviction?
I’ve been speaking and teaching on the matter of faith for over twenty years. In my experience I’ve learned that what most people refer to as faith is really wishful thinking or a hope which is far different from a confident faith conviction. People have been influenced by a culture of political correctness and many other popular notions that have actually served to erode true faith.

In starting to write my book I used the most popular search engines to locate two different highest ranking online dictionaries. Looking up the definition of the words truth and faith, I discovered that both these dictionaries had it wrong. With the popular definitions of these two core words being off the mark, it’s evidence that as a culture we are too.

How do you help people examine what they believe and why?
By systematically considering absolute truth against the claim that truth is relative, by exploring religious pluralism, (the believe that all roads lead to the same God and heaven) and the various major world religions (Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam and Christianity) and New Age, readers can more confidently determine what religious belief is truly worthy of their faith.  Many people hold ideals, values and philosophies that have never been held up to the test of scrutiny. This means a person could easily believe something to be true that in reality isn’t.  No one wants to live their life on the basis of a lie. Yet, I assert that unless we intentionally examine what we believe and why we believe it, we could be deceived and not know it. It is, after all, the very nature of deception that the victim is unaware.

What has been your personal life experiences that allow you to offer the insights that you do in your book? I was raised to have the freedom to explore religious faith on my own, with very little input from my parents. Without realizing it, I adopted various points of view that I thought were sound and also consistent with Christian beliefs. Had it not been for a significant life crisis, (which I share in my book), that caused me to question everything I had ever believed true, I would still be living in deception today.

Having started my journey for truth and faith more than twenty years ago, I’ve had many years teaching, writing, broadcasting and more on this. My interest to learn more led me to enroll in Biola University’s course in Christian apologetics in 2003 from which I have a certificate of completion.

As a public speaker one of the first questions I ask my audience is “Who in this room wants to live your life on the basis of a lie?” No one ever raises their hand to that question, which is very revealing. It means that universally we prefer truth over deception and that we then view truth as “good” and lies as “bad.” Yet, without a deliberate, and I’ll add courageous, effort to examine what we believe and why, we could be basing our life—our eternal life—on lies. I don’t want people to come to a major life crisis, when they need their faith to be in tact, only to find out as I did, that it is faulty. The way I explain it is to say that faith is a lot like automobile insurance. You must have it firmly in place before there’s a need for it. Picture What makes your book distinctive from other books that cover the same topics?
My book is written in an inductive fashion. I disclose up front that I have taken the same journey I seek to take my readers through and I have concluded that Christianity is the religious faith that I can wholly accept. However, it is not my goal to tell people what to think.  Rather I help them use their own intellect through the process of logic and reason to conclude for him or her self. I write with genuine compassion and respect for the reader because I know first hand, that embarking on this journey is not easy—but it is so necessary.

To help my readers begin the journey I explain that well-meaning people want to believe that all religions are equal and all roads lead to the same God and heaven. Then I point out that simply claiming a matter to be true, does not make it so. The first issue to resolve is an understanding about what truth is, so I tackle that at the start.

Then, I explore religious tolerance as it is expressed today. Once upon a time religious tolerance meant accepting people of different religious world views. Today however, it is far from that. In our post-modern culture we have individuals selecting various tenets of different religious beliefs to create their own “faith,” according to personal subjective preferences. I want my readers to truly consider any merits or detriments of this manner of “acquiring faith.”

Then by providing a general overview of the five major world religions and New Age, I want the reader to conclude on the matter of religious pluralism. I have devoted entire chapters to explain, in an overview fashion, the basic tenets of each of the world’s religions and New Age so that people can compare and contrast and arrive at a personally satisfying conclusion concerning faith. This is not a book that tells people what to think.  Rather it’s a book that presents the facts so that the reader can conclude with a confident faith conviction.

I will add that it takes courage to intentionally examine what you believe and why. There are many people whom we love and respect who have helped us shape our faith. To question our faith can feel like we are betraying these individuals. But since most people believe that the human soul and spirit are eternal, the ramifications of not examining our faith outweigh the temporary discomfort. There will be those who read my book and conclude that their faith is in tact, which will serve to strengthen their faith conviction and hopefully embolden then to share their faith with others. Conversely, I already know of many who have read my book and discovered answers to questions they’ve never secured before that have altered their faith conviction.

Give us two or three insights from the book that would be helpful to Christians.
While this book is excellent for religious skeptics and seekers, Christians can gain a great deal from the book. Christians are commanded by Jesus to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that Christ has commanded. This is referred to as the Great Commission.

Yet, precious few are able to sufficiently and effectively share their faith. Many are tripped up with the first question, “What is truth?” Others are convoluting their faith—actually rendering it impotent with the collection of popular ideals under the banners of tolerance and political correctness. This reality means that greater numbers than ever are
not only improperly informed, but have their eternal life at risk. Each individual Christian has the mandate of the Great Commission. It is my hopes that this book will better equip Christians to do what we’re called to do.

What has the response been to the book so far?
Well, to start, the fact that Josh McDowell, Dr. Craig Hazen and Dan Story, among others have endorsed it means a great deal to me! Their response has encouraged me to expand this book project. Examine Your Faith, Finding Truth in a World of Lies, is therefore the first in a three-book series. It will be followed by a book explaining effective faith then one that leads a person to excellent faith. It could be said that the series is about faith, hope and love.

I have been exceedingly gratified at the response I’ve received from readers. It was important for me to write a book that expresses loving compassion.  And while I use apologetics, (systematic approach to defending the truth), this book is not written in an academic fashion. Rather it is very personal. That’s not to say that the book is void of any mental challenges! There are those. But anything worthy of our faith deserves to be seriously considered. So the fact that people have commented on the loving tone of the book is rewarding.

I especially liked what one reader suggested, which was to remove the endorsement pages before giving the book to a
non-Christian, skeptic or seeker. The endorsers have read the entire book and many express their conclusion in their endorsement.  It was my goal to offer a good, inductive resource to guide people, to arrive at a satisfying conclusion about their personal  religious faith. So I concur, tear out the endorsements as needed and give the book out to everyone you want to discover truth!

How are you promoting your book and where can your book be purchased?
Certainly fun virtual parties like this book blog tour is one way I’m promoting it. And I can’t thank Diane Estrella and you enough for this! We have contests and prizes associated with this blog tour. I also have a longer running contest from my web site and Rafflecopter on my Facebook page where depending on the number of books sold through my web site the grand prize could be $250.00 cash. No purchase is necessary to win (but it helps the prize structure!) Only subscribers to my bi-monthly ENewsletter or my blog are eligible.

I also have a great book trailer viewable on my home page that I encourage people to tweet and about and Like and share. And of course I’m using social media too with Twitter , Facebook and LinkedIn . And I really enjoy the interaction on sites like Good Reads and Book Fun .

Until October 15, 2013 the best price to get the soft cover is from my web store . It’s priced lower than Amazon or Barnes and Noble . But after that, my readers will still get unique value from me with special promotional materials and preferential treatment. The holidays are right around the corner for many people. Perhaps the gift of this book will change lives. I certainly hope and pray so. examine your faith by pamela christianExamine Your Faith!: Finding Truth in a World of Lies a Rafflecopter giveaway Thanks for welcoming Pamela Christian and her new book!

"I didn't win." or DID I? Oh, I did, I did indeed!

Picture 21st Annual Writer’s Digest Annual Self-Published Book Awards I'm thankful for the feedback of this one judge...
and more so for the feedback of all of you, my readers.
Your words of encouragement, testimony, and hope
because of Where's Heidi? One Sister's Journey
are evidence of God's blessing on this book.
Thank you! Entry Title: Where's Heidi? One Sister's Journey
Author: Lisa M Buske
Entry Category: Life Stories
Books are evaluated on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 meaning “needs improvement” and 5 meaning “outstanding”. This scale is strictly to provide a point of reference, it is not a cumulative score and does not reflect ranking.
Structure and Organization: 3
Grammar: 2
Production Quality and Cover Design: 3

Judges Commentary:
"Where's Heidi? takes a heartbreaking topic, the disappearance of the author's sister, and turns it into an inspirational story for anyone who has lost a family member, either in the mysterious circumstances that the author lost Heidi, or more easily explained ones.

The author delves deep into her own emotions and issues to tell a well-rounded tale with insight and feeling. She doesn't shy away from negative aspects of her own behavior or problems in her life caused by her sister's disappearance and the aftermath, and this gives her story credibility and makes it universal.

The cover is a good choice. She explains in the preface why she didn't use a picture of Heidi and that makes sense. The picture of the scene of the disappearance is almost more poignant than a picture of her sister would be. That said, the book would benefit from more interior family pictures to help round the story up and draw readers in.

The interior production is clean and readable, and the Bible passages are used well and help convey the place God has in the author's life.

The book could use a professional edit to smooth out issues of grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence structure and publishing style. These issues can be a distraction to readers and a good polish would allow the reader to concentrate more fully on this compelling story and the inspiration it imparts."
*Commentary may be quoted as: “Judge, Writer’s Digest 21st Annual Self-Published Book Awards” Picture I thought about getting defensive (and I kind of kid last night on Facebook. I am just a silly human) but after much encouragement from my readers and family, followed by a good night's sleep ~ I am able to focus on the multitude of blessings and positives.

First and foremost, this judge states I took a "heartbreaking topic" and turned it into "an inspirational story for anyone who has lost a family member" - Wow!! As if this isn't a compliment in itself, this judge continues with "a well-rounded tale with insight and feeling. She doesn't shy away from negative aspects of her own behavior or problems...and this gives her story credibility and makes it universal."  God is good, this was one of the greatest challenges I faced was to make the story relevant to anyone who has experienced loss - so this was a success!

Yes this judge recommends I have a professional edit (in case you are wondering, I did have one, along with countless eyes reviewing and offering suggestions right up until it went to print - but at some point you have to say, "It's done and it's time.") which has already been done and I'm moving forward with the sequel to Where's Heidi? One Sister's Journey and already know the editor I'm going to ask once I have something to offer her to edit. BUT the most important part of her statement is at the end, "...a good polish would allow the reader to concentrate more fully on this compelling story and the inspiration it imparts."  Wow...no offense, I would rather have a "compelling story" that "imparts inspiration" than a well edited, but poorly written book any day.

One thing I learned during the publication process for Where's Heidi? One Sister's Journey is this, there is always something to edit, revise, rewrite, and tinker with in your manuscript. If you never stop tinkering, then you don't finish. Some people work so hard on making it perfect, no one ever reads it. On the flip side, others rush and no one wants to read it. There is a fine line. Is my book perfect? No. Did I think it was? No. Was that the goal of my book? No.

I wrote Where's Heidi? One Sister's Journey to share hope with others grieving the loss of a loved one. The feedback I receive daily via my email, Facebook, Twitter, or in my Post Office box are evidence of God's faithfulness and love for me and each of you. Lives have been changed because one sister shared how God worked through her life, in the darkest years of her life. It's not all pretty but it's all honest with hopes to share the Ultimate Hope and healing... Picture

Here is what a couple said in reply to the judges scores after I posted on Facebook last night:

"The book is your story, and in my humble opinion the grammar and organization helped to convey the emotion and the disconnect that was your life. By the way, it took me 5 months to get the courage to open the book. When I finally did I could not stop reading it. I have heard several other people say they could not put the book down. I doubt that any of these people would agree with Writers Digest."
D.A.

"Your message of hope and your journey itself is much more important than the result of a contest. You achieved your ultimate goals. Keep your chin up. Besides, think of how many more people read about the love and sacrifice of Jesus, because of your efforts." D.M.

If you haven't read Where's Heidi? One Sister's Journey, I hope you will. A special congratulations to all the authors who received perfect scores and a round of applause to the ones who received the highest of rankings and won the overall contest too. Everyone with the courage to try is a winner, don't you agree? What are your thoughts? I'd love to hear from you...

A Biblical Lesson From "The Croods"

Picture Okay, I have to admit we weren't going to watch The Croods after watching the preview. The thirty second promo did nothing for Ed, Mags, or myself yet the comments we heard at work or on Facebook were all positive. Since we had a coupon for a FREE on demand movie, we decided to watch it and if it was terrible...we weren't out anything but a little time together, and family time is good regardless of a movie's quality. It would be a good evening regardless. We didn't expect to laugh so much or stay up much later to watch it a second time.

Mags and I actually watched two more times on Saturday while Ed was at work we liked it so much. We have the rental for twenty-four hours so we're maximizing our time, I'm thinking this movie is going on the Christmas wish list. If you watched the movie then you know how fabulous this movie is but if you haven't seen it, let me share a couple valuable lessons I noticed. I'm not sure if these were intentional or God-Instances but either way, they only enhanced an already wonderful, enlightening, and fabulous movie. Don't be Afraid of the Dark! Picture Without giving away the movie, in case you haven't seen it, one of the greatest obstacles the Crood family faces is one of fear. They don't go out at night or try new things because of their fear...a fear of the unknown.

Their daughter, Eve (Hmm...Eve? Bold, not following rules, and has to live with the consequences of her actions? Makes you think, right?

Anyway, Eve, is your typical teenager looking to find her way in the world and not wanting to conform to her parent's way of living. Her father tries to protect her. Her mother is the buffer between father/daughter. And Guy, the boy who steals her heart and introduces Eve to more than she imagined.

A life of...(not telling, watch the movie.) One of my favorite lines in the movie is spoken by Eve. When she explores and discovers new things she calls to her family, "You should see this!" They all run and watch with wide eyes as they absorb the beauty and miracles of life around them they never new existed.

This act reminds me of our Christian walk, we are called to share with others. To share the excitement of God's beauty, miracles, and provision in our lives. I pray we are as bold and excited to share our faith as Eve is to share the new creations discovered around each corner. She didn't hid in the dark but instead embraced change, creation, and the joy of discovery. "You should see this!"
"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against
the schemes of the devil. To that end keep alert with all perseverance,
making supplication for all the saints, and also for me,
that words may be given to me in opening my mouth
boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel,
for which I am an ambassador in chains,
that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.
Ephesians 6:10-11,18b-20
Stronger because of the trials... Picture Throughout the movie, the Croods travel towards the light and higher ground, for the mountain. The dad says, "I was busy keeping them alive." and Guy tells him, "That's what Dad's do." Our Heavenly Father, God, gave the ultimate gift to keep us alive. He sent His Only Son, Jesus and let Him die on the cross for our sins - my sins, and yours.

When life's trials come, may we be like the Croods and follow the Light and recognize we aren't in the battle alone. As we cross the bridges of trouble, may we see the Living Water, Jesus, walking right next to us, if not carrying us every step of the way.

Just like when we reach the mountain, the ultimate sacrifice will bring beauty and eternal life - a Father gives His all for the love of his children and family. On the other side of this sacrifice...beauty, peace, and forever.

We may not see tomorrow but with Jesus...eternity is a guarantee! To quote Mr. Crood to his family at the end of the movie, "What is the point? To follow The Light!" Don't Hide in the Darkness...Seek THE Light!
The End is Coming
Strive to Reach the Mountain on High
There is enough Light for all of us...
His name is Jesus! Picture Again Jesus spoke to them, saying,
“I am the light of the world.
Whoever follows me
will not walk in darkness,
but will have the light of life.”

John 8:12 ESV What's your favorite part of "The Croods" if you already watched it?

Who is "The Bear Team" and How Can You Help a Sick Kiddo?

Picture Some of The Bear Team: left to right: Deb Allen, Betty Lauger, Nancy Warren, Glenda Stowel One of the joys I experienced this year while at the Town of New Haven’s weekly Farmer’s Market was the many people I met. There were a couple that remained the same, Deb Abbott and another family both came with their produce and then little old me with my books. During the season, Deb Allen, the town’s clerk, invited various vendors to “visit” for a week to increase traffic for her regulars and to build our small farmer’s market into one similar to neighboring towns. I’m thankful for the books I sold yet my greatest blessing was the people I met.

Today I want to introduce you to a few. This group of women gathers monthly, if not more often as the holiday’s approach. Let me tell you why. The Bear Team was established by Glenda Stowel and works primarily out of the Pulaski, New York area, but regardless of where you are, there is a way you can help.

The women shown in today’s blog are only a few of the fingers and hearts responsible for this great mission. What is the mission? I thought you would never ask. Picture This is the mission and how you can help. This group can’t do it alone, they need us to partner with them. Yes, WE can help make a difference in the lives of children (and their families) who are living with one of life’s greatest sorrows – childhood illness. Golasano hospital, services hundreds, if not thousands of children suffering with illness, some of which are life threatening. These kiddos spend countless hours, days, weeks, and often months at the hospital. What brings them joy? What relieves some of the pain and sadness? What brings a smile to their face or renews their hope? What provides an opportunity to give the gift of laughter and true happiness to the hearts of the parents watching their child fight for their life?

I know there are many answers to this question, with the most important and obvious being the love, healing, and provision of God in their lives. The more I thought about having a sick child and the pain a parent can go through watching helplessley, the more I saw God working through these precious women to bring a bounty of blessings to the children and their families throughout the year, and especially during the holidays.

What exactly do they do? To their neighbors it might appear it is a “girls night out” because of the excitement and giggles they witness as each arrives with their bags of goodies to make bear clothes, gifts, cards, and so much more to bless some of the sick kiddos spending too much time for any one person at the local children’s hospital. In addition to using their talents motivated by love, compassion, and hope – they also partner with Build-A-Bear. How cool is this? I was overwhelmed with their love and the pure joy as they talked about this amazing mission. Like their Facebook Page to keep up with deliveries, needs, and upcoming locations to drop off items - https://www.facebook.com/TheBearTeam2
Click on pictures above for direct link. So how can you help?
Maybe you have money you could donate to offset this organization’s cost?

In addition to helping out at the Children's Hospital, they also partner with the Oswego Hospital to provide for women and children in need. Two ways to partner.

Do you feel called to help but not sure how you, your time, talents, or money could best be utilized? Specifically need sewers to help make the scrubs for the bears to wear this holiday season, they delivered 50 bears in September and there is still many more to finish.

If you answered yes to any of these questions then contact Glenda at (315) 298-5308 or at thebearteam2@yahoo.com for more information. Each dollar, donation, and prayer means so much to the children receiving the bears and clothing ~ Is God calling you to help?

Thank you in advance for using some of your blessings to encourage, uplift, and share hope with families living what can be a nightmare at times…a sick kid. Thanks again… Prayers for the kiddos & family receiving some love and hope from The Bear Team...May complete healing and joy be the greatest gift!
"Our goal  let no child be left out so one bear at a time " the bear team" does make a difference . Thank you everyone for your help and support."

TOP's Tuesday: Upcoming Speaking Events & Book Signings

Picture It's that time of the week again where I share upcoming events or make an announcement. I was hoping to share the excitement I won a contest today but you never know, there is still time as it's early in the day. In April I entered the Writer's Digest contest for a chance to be dubbed the best self published book of the year. We prayed about investing the amount of money required for the entry and after much prayer and before the deadline, mailed off the check and one of my books.

Today, October 15th is the day they announce the winner. Who knows, maybe they'll call me today? Regardless of if I win or not, I'm glad we decided to take the chance and enter. You never know, a judge might of read Where's Heidi? One Sister's Journey and realized he or she still has hope. I didn't let fear stop me and I followed through, so all is good and if God chooses I will receive a call or email today to notify me I'm a winner.

Whether Writer's Digest says I'm a winner or not, I am. I am because instead of dreaming about writing a book, I did it. And the icing on the cake, life's are changing because of the message God lays on the hearts of my readers. Such a God thing...

But do know this, if I hear from Writer's Digest - there will probably be a second blog today or at least a lot of happy dancing on Facebook with a celebratory blog tomorrow! With that being said, let me update you of upcoming events.

As we transition into the latter part of Fall and organizations look ahead to their Fall/Winter/Spring events, my opportunities to share hope, healing, and Heidi with others are filling my calendar.  It's not too late if you are looking for a speaker ~ thanks to an evening I spent with the Oswego Alliance last year, I have a fun Christmas presentation if you have a women's group or church event you are looking to fill with a festive and fun message.

Thanks for following the blog, reading my books, and sharing with others! You never know when God will work through you to encourage someone else. If your eyes, ears, and heart are open to it, He'll do this daily and you my friend, will experience a joy like no other. To help and encourage someone else is a priceless gift. YOU Encourage Me...Thank you!

Picture
"I received a package with not one but 2 autographed books
from  Lisa Buske today. Thank you! I will treasure them for always!"
~Tricia, Winner of a FREE book in last month's "Photo Contest" ~
Last month we celebrated my sister Heidi's birthday for the entire month. I offered to give away books through a few different contests: write a review on Amazon for a chance to win one of my books, post a picture with one of my books in it  on Facebook and tag me in it for a chance to win, or take advantage of downloading Where's Heidi? One Sister's Journey and When the Waves Subside: There is Hope to your Kindle.

Well one of the winners, Tricia, won the photo challenge because she inspired the contest with the photo below of her precious and beautiful Sasha I saw on Facebook earlier this year. No one posted a picture and tagged me in during the month of September so I gifted a book to my inspiration for this contest. Tricia has been an ongoing encourager for me since I announced my book would be released and more so since its release this spring.

I was tickled to bless her with a book and then teary when I asked which book she wanted and she said, "Hi Lisa! I already have a copy of where's Heidi but I want another one autographed :) I can't wait to keep it forever and share the book with my little boy when he grows up!!!" I was a mush. Little did Tricia know I had a little something for her and that little boy so instead of sending her one autographed book, I sent her two. One of mine and one by author, Elaine W. Miller. Elaine's Splashes of Serenity for Drained Moms, is a collection of devotionals to inspire, encourage, and uplift moms. I was excited and hoped Tricia would let me know when the books arrived. Picture I never expected to see the photograph above posted on Facebook with Elaine and myself tagged in it. I cried again, I'm like super mush lately. Thank you Tricia!

I am humbled, touched, overwhelmed, & simply put...blessed because of your joy and excitement. Thank you for encouraging me over the past months and especially for today. You don't even know what a blessing this was today and someday I hope to share why.

I pray you and your family, this includes Sasha, have a blessed and fabulous weekend and that you find time to enjoy a Splash of Serenity when your sweet boy sleeps.

My hope was to bless you yet you blessed me ~ so it was a double blessing, don't you think? What unexpected blessing did you receive after blessing another?

What does it mean to click "like"?

Picture This is a question I’ve debated since the start of Facebook. To be honest with you, I “liked” more posts at the beginning of my social media life than I do now. Before I get much farther though I better explain what a “like” is for the non-Facebook/social media people reading this blog. And yes, there are many out there who avoid social media at all costs and don’t understand the lingo – this is okay. There are days I wonder if joining them wouldn’t be a bad idea as I run in half a dozen (if not more) directions to keep up with sharing, posting, and interacting with my friends, family, and fans.

So to answer the question, “What is a ‘like’?” on Facebook – I want to start by explaining what a “post” is. Similar to other social medias (Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, The Vine, etc.) you can type a message as your status; this comment is called a “post”. Once you share your thoughts and click to “Tweet” “Post” or “Share”, depending on your social media venue – your post/message is now live and others can read it. So a “post” = “message to share your status”, with your “friends” (this is a whole different blog, maybe I’ll tackle this one in the near future too). Picture Now that your post is “live”, where does it go? First and foremost, it appears on your “home page” and “news feed”. Simultaneously, it shows up on your friend’s “ticker” (a sidebar to show who is posting and what they are posting about), and on your friend’s “news page”. This is where the choice comes in. The reader can choose to ignore the post or to read it.

Once you read someone else’s post, you have another decision to make –
a)      Read it and do nothing
b)      Read it and “share” it with your friends
c)      Read it and “like” it
d)      Read and respond to it
e)      Read it and “report” it

So what do these all mean? Picture Read it and do nothing: is simply just this, you read their post and move on to read someone’s else’s post or log off your computer because of the time you’ve wasted reading other people’s posts (I’m guilty of this when in procrastination mode – and should log off rather than read on)

Read it and “share” it with your friends: the posts I typically share with others have either said something I found profound, a message I think we all could use hearing, a great illustration of life, a graphic or photograph to encourage or inspire my “friends”, a
link/recipe I want to be able to find later when I can read more, or to pass a message on to a friend or colleague who might be interested

Read it and “like” it: This means I not only read it but on some level, the person’s message spoke to my heart. Often times when a friend shares a prayer request, I will “like” it so they know I am praying for them. I look at one like equally one prayer lifted on behalf of the people I care about. At times when I’ve posted a prayer request and people like my posts, I am so encouraged to know not only do people care about be but they are also praying for me…how exciting and cool is that? Amazing, isn’t it. Your “like” is a prayer and hope for others.

SCRIPTURE ABOUT KNOW NOT WHAT TO PRAY

Read it and comment: the reason I leave a comment can vary depending on the post. Sometimes I read a post and my heart breaks for the person writing it so I try to leave an encouraging word because this is what I felt the Lord asked me to write. Other times I respond because I understand where they are coming from and want him/her to know they aren’t alone. I might just leave a smiley to so they know I’m thinking of them. A sidebar to the comment is when I don’t “like” it or “comment” publically but send a private message with a special note to encourage, support, inspire, or extend an understanding word to the person without the whole world reading it. Not everything belongs live and online for all to read – actually probably 90% of the information shared via social media used to be shared over coffee with a close friend – not the world. Just a thought to ponder…

Read it and report it: Yes I have “blocked” people and/or posts that appeared on my news feed. There are things I don’t want to see and don’t think my daughter or others should be exposed to. I don’t necessarily “report” them to the social media gods but I do block them and select the appropriate bubble to why I’m hiding it from my page. I’ve only blocked a couple people for harassing or inappropriate messages and  posts on my page – this is done for my safety, and that of my family and friends that may be affected. This is a small number, yet the threat exists and more people need to consider who they friend and be willing to un-friend those who post messages and photographs that consistently go against their personal beliefs. It is your page after all – you can “hide” someone and their posts without hurt feelings too.
Another thing to think about… Picture So in a nutshell – I like, share, and message my “friends” through social media as a way to encourage, inspire, support, and pray for them. This is a small way I can extend the grace and mercy and love God’s given to me, to those in my circle. Who is posting and sharing something that you could respond to? Do they just need to know someone else understands? Do they need a prayer lifted on their behalf? Are they just venting and need to know someone heard them and is listening? If so, take the time to connect with them.

It can start with a “like”, “share”, or “private message” yet the ultimate and most beneficial way to connect and relate on a personal level is over coffee (or whatever your favorite drink is). If this isn’t possible because of schedules and miles – then pick up the phone, write and send a card (yes, a real card, using the postal service), and add them to your prayer lists. I like all of you and appreciate you following the blog –
may we all “like” the daily lives of our friends, family, neighbors, coworkers and those we meet each and every day

Obedience, Faith, and Hope Equal Success: Part II of II

Picture Thank you all for the words of encouragement and joining in the celebration of yesterday's announcement. More people signed up for the newsletter today, this will not flood your box with junk mail - it will only be a couple times a month unless something super exciting happens that I just can't wait to tell. Then I'll tell those receiving the newsletter while I wait for the next day's blog to post.

Do you remember this August when I posted about the Heidi Search Center located in Texas? This is the very center my aunt and uncle found through a Google search to bring an expert to New York. This expert, Rick, stepped in and shared more than his ability to assist law enforcement to lead a search and rescue...he brought compassion, understanding, and HOPE.

This December I travel to Texas to share HOPE at the Heidi Search Center's annual banquet. Each time I think of it I still tear up. God is so good, I never would of thought I'd be traveling to the very center who brought peace, rest, and direction to our family and community in the hours of our greatest need. I don't know if I'll see Rick again but I look forward to meeting everyone at the center and getting to know them in person.

I've talked with Crystal so much since this summer when we first "met", I expect much laughter and a reunion even though it will be our first official meeting. I look forward to meeting Heidi Seeman's family too and just pray not to get too emotional but I expect this isn't something I'll be able to control because I'm a mush.

I will be speaking on HOPE and this is all I can reveal but know I'll keep you posted as different tidbits become available. In addition to speaking at the banquet, I will be blessed with the opportunity to spend a day at the Heidi Search Center, meet the families on a more intimate level, and see the center in action. This is so exciting!!

Any opportunity to share how God has worked is a blessing yet to travel to Texas is almost like seeing God's fruit from Where's Heidi? One Sister's Journey in a light I never imagined.
"Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us,
to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. 21 Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen."
Ephesians 3:20-21
Picture A note from the Heidi Search Center
San Antonio, Texas - in memory of Heidi Seeman

We need your help to kick off our end of the year fundraiser with our “HOPE INITIATIVE CAMPAIGN.”

This campaign will run from August 25, 2013 until December 7, 2013. We will kick the campaign off in memory of Heidi and Erica along with the countless other children and adults we have assisted in the past by, giving HOPE back to their families.

We would like to extend the same HOPE to other families that were extended to both the Seeman and Botello family over 23 years ago, by continuing their legacy.

Our goal is to raise $35,000 in memory of Heidi’s 35th birthday this year. This is where you can help us. We need everyone to send in any amount of money with 35 in it (for example $3.50, $35, $350, $3500, etc.) or any amount large or small to help the Heidi Search Center
continue our mission.

The HSC assists families, communities, and law enforcement agencies in the recovery of missing children and adults at-risk by advocating community awareness, facilitating search and location efforts and offering assistance and referrals to those with missing loved ones nationwide. We also provide community educational programs to effectively protect and safeguard children from abduction or exploitation.

Here’s how you can help. Go to our web-page
www.heidisearchcenter.com and click on our PayPal account, mail in a check or money order, or come into our center and bring cash. It is that SIMPLE! You can also go to our Facebook page and like us. We will place weekly updates of all monies raised and let you know how close we are to our goal of $35,000. We encourage EVERYONE to share our Facebook page with family and friends all over the world, and reproduce the letter and send it out to help us get the word out.

Your support will help give HOPE back to those family members that still have a loved one missing and the new cases that enter our doors every day. Our goal is to continue providing our services FREE OF CHARGE and to give HOPE during and after what many times seems like a hopeless situation. Again, we appreciate all your help in reaching our goal of $35,000 by December 7, 2013, in time for our Tree of Hope Ceremony.

We want to show those that we serve that their loved ones are not forgotten and give them a glimpse of HOPE expressing how much we really care.

Picture In April 94' Rick left Texas to join us in New York - bringing expertise and HOPE to a weary community and team!

This December, I have the opportunity to thank them personally and share hope with the families in attendance. Click on the "Donations" or "Help!" photos for a direct link to help fund the Heidi Search Center.

Direct links to the Heidi Search Center in Texas are on the top two photographs - please visit their site to learn more about their amazing mission. I'll join the Heidi Search Center located in TEXAS this December to share H.O.P.E. with families of the missing!

Will you help them reach their goal of $35,000 to keep the center funded and able to help these families? Picture
If you wish, remember our Heidi, Heidi M. Allen and donate in her memory! Thank you in advance for helping them reach their goal so they can help others - they
helped our community once! How has God showed His love to you this week? Will you share?
