Holiday Tips with Rachel Blaufeld
Hey there, fabulous readers! Happy early holidays and all that sparkly stuff!
How about? — Let’s start with the 411.
I met Alison last year at a writing conference.
We were seated across the table from one another. If you believe in opposites attract than you know she and I were destined for friendship.
Alison explained she was from the land of sweet tea––and where I believe the air is filled with the aroma of crispy bacon. My Yankee ass believes a hot cup of coffee and a New York bagel solves any woe.
It was all-good though––Alison loved me despite my craziness, and the rest is history. So, here I am to chat with y’all.
Today is December 1st, and I expect most of you are already knee deep in shopping, baking, stressing, and drinking. Therefore, I will be short and to the point. To kick off the Holiday Season, I will share my TOP TEN Christmas Must-Do Items (even though I celebrate Hanukkah).
1. Start listening to Christmas Tunes the week of Thanksgiving.
2. Download every single version of The Little Drummer Boy.
3. Buy every candy wrapped in red, green, & silver tinfoil.
4. Invite yourself over to any friend’s house who happens to be baking cookies.
5. Watch The Holiday and Love Actually at least ten times each.
6. Obsess over the Elf and all his naughty antics.
7. Insist the Hanukkah version of the Elf is nowhere near as cool.
8. Drag your family to every stinking light-up display.
9. Ask Santa for Charlie Hunnam.
10. Eat Chinese Food and go to the movies on Christmas Day.
Happy Holidays to all of you!
Stay warm and safe, hug your loved ones and even the people you can’t stand…it’s Christmas time!
XOXO,
Rachel

The weight of a thousand elephants pushes against my shoulders. I can’t handle it anymore. I’m dying inside. I can’t move. I can’t breathe. A low wail escapes my searing throat. Nothing can hold it back. Slowly sliding down the wall, I tuck myself into a ball, and weep like a baby.
Moments later, I wince at Jenna’s unexpected voice, “Come on! You’ve got to get up now.”
“I can’t go! Not now!” I gasp, wiping the residual tears from my eyes.
She continues to tug at me. “You are not going to sit here and feel sorry for yourself. You and I both know that you’re not the one to blame for this. Get your ass up!”
I slowly start to inch my way up and off the wall. I’m so shaky, I teeter back and forth like a toddler learning to balance for the first time.
Looking down at the motionless body is horrifying. Tears well up and beat at the back of my eyes. She is barely recognizable. Her face is pale and bloated. My God. This is worse than I imagined. I want to erase the horrifying image I see lying before me.
I shake my head and pull my hand up to wipe the tears that are starting to slip from my eyes. Get it together. You don’t have much time.

Kaitlyn Woodley is a beautiful, determined, high school senior, who embraces her small-town roots and country life. She’s studious, musically gifted, and headed for a successful career in swimming. Aside from a catty group of jealous girls, who taunt her mercilessly, Kaitlyn’s dreams are well within her reach. That is, until she becomes tangled up with the handsome Pistol Black, a rodeo cowboy, who not only turns every girl’s head in the county, but also turns her perfect world upside down.
Kaitlyn’s overprotective twin brother and best friends, begin to see signs that make them question Pistol’s subtle control over her. As secrets are unveiled, they intervene to save her from a possible path of destruction. To their surprise, when best friend Brody steps in to protect her, newly discovered feelings complicate an already volatile situation. Soon, everything begins to change. Julie Solano has lived in far Northern California, nearly her entire life. She graduated from CSU, Chico, where she majored in Psychology and minored in Child Development. She later went on to Simpson University where she obtained her multiple subject teaching credential. Julie enjoys life in the “State of Jefferson” where she lives with her husband and two children. As a family, they spend their time tromping around the Marble Mountains and Russian Wilder-ness. They also take pleasure in rafting, skiing, snowmobiling, off-roading, campfires, and living it up in the great outdoors. When she’s not with her family, Julie spends her days teaching next door to her co-author, fellow prankster, and partner in crime, Tracy. The most recent of their crazy adventures was to take on the challenge of writing this silly, little novel about life in their neck of the woods. They hope you have fun reading this story which was inspired by their small town, rural upbringing, and the personalities of their four children.
Born and raised in Northern California, Tracy Justice is a wife, mother, and full-time teacher. She graduated from CSU, Chico with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Arts. One of her fondest memories growing up was herding cattle in the Marble Mountains with her family. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, riding horses, running, hiking, swimming, and of course reading. After some encouragement from Julie, she decided to add “Coauthor” to her ever growing bucket list. She never knew how much fun it would be to write a book with her best friend. She hopes you enjoy reading this story as much as they enjoyed writing it.

Week In Review
I sent a lot of books off to New York this week, some were giveaway prizes and some purchased books. Thought it was odd that most were headed to the same state.
I went shoe shopping. I haven’t bought shoes in a long time. I got a real cute pair of over the knee brown leather boots and a pair of gray suede short boots with zippers on either side. Booties, maybe? I don’t what they are called. All I know is they will look good with jeans.
I had a friend over for dinner last night. Made chili in the crockpot. The place smelled wonderful, like fall. I don’t like my chili spicy or too soupy. And I always top it with Fritos, cheddar cheese, and a spoonful of sour cream. When I was a kid we used to call these lead bellies.
By the way, this isn’t my chili. Looks good, though.
Discovered a new show on Netflix. Technically it’s not new, but new to me. Derek starring Ricky Gervais.
This is one of the best shows I’ve watched. It’s original, sweet, funny, heartbreaking, heartwarming. I don’t use this word often, but it’s brilliant. And Ricky Gervais . . .incredible. If you don’t have Netflix, sign up for the free month just to watch Derek.
Book Report
Book #5 is coming along. The talented Murphy Rae Hopkins of Indie Solution and I worked really hard on the cover design. It’s gorgeous. So different than my other covers. I can’t wait to share it with y’all.
Here’s a song from the playlist that’s been on repeat.
Remember!
Hope y’all have a great weekend. ~Alison

Brain Freeze
Book #5 is coming along nicely. I will say that I’ve never fallen in love so fast with characters I’ve written before. The characters are older than the ones in my previous books. It will be a Contemporary Romance. I don’t have a release date yet.
I started watching 2 new shows.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. It’s on Netflix and is HILARIOUS.
The second new show is Quantico, about a group of FBI recruits. It’s got SMS, suspense, mystery, and sex.
I might have a girl crush on Priyanka ChopraAnd I definitely have a crush on Jake McLaughlin.
That’s about it for this week. I promise to try and get a life so that I have more entertaining things to share with y’all.
Monthly Giveaway!
Comment anywhere on the site to enter. October’s prize may include candy and a signed book with a certain Halloween story in it.
Have a fantastic week!!!
~Alison
