Uhm... hi. Remember me?
Hey! Long time no see.
Wow! Life can get crazy sometimes. I guess I owe you an explanation or two about what’s been going on and why I went AWOL for a while.
For those of you who don’t know: I’m a full time university student. As if that wasn’t time-consuming enough, I’m currently majoring in two very different subjects. Yep. Two. That means twice the studying, twice the paper-writing, twice the projects and twice the obligatory internships. Basically, it’s very time-consuming. I love it, but it can suck up all my energy.
For the last few weeks I’ve been interning (40+ hours a week), only to come home where I had literally a dozen papers to write for Uni, all of which were at least 10 pages long. So one of the reasons for my absence is this: I just didn’t have the time to sit down at the computer and do anything but work.
And then there’s the other reason.
I wasn’t happy with my work. I wasn’t happy writing what I was writing. I wasn’t happy with the whole self-publishing world. If you’re not one of the big-selling indie authors, there are a lot of people who can be downright bitchy to you. And while the insults, the brush-offs and the ignorance certainly didn’t make me happy with what I was investing my time into, it all wouldn’t have mattered as much if I’d liked my work.
It wasn’t just a small writer’s block. I started hating every word I put on the page, which ended in me not writing a single thing for weeks. (Me. A girl who usually writes every day – and if it’s on a tiny slip of paper.)
With the help of a couple of amazing friends, I’ve found a way to change that. I figured out what I needed to do to drag myself out of the dark slump and fall back in love with writing:Returning to my roots: Non-Contemporary YA. (Granted, older YA, but not NA.)
Yes, I still plan on releasing Always Tomorrow as well as the sequel to These Things one day. It might just take a little while longer. As of right now, I don’t have plans to write or rewrite or revise a contemporary novel anytime soon.

Always Tomorrow
My second book will be out on March 11th.
It's called Always Tomorrow. And this is what it's about:
Stealing a stranger’s shirt from the laundry room wasn’t supposed to snowball into a big deal. Jemima just needed proof of a lover in order to get her roommate off her back about getting laid. Frankly, she doesn’t have the time or the nerve to actually get involved with someone. After her father ditched her family out of nowhere, forcing her to return to Vegas and leave her dream behind at Juilliard, Jemima has enough on her plate to deal with.
Unfortunately, she stole Ashton Deverell’s shirt. And he doesn’t let her off the hook easily.
Illusionist extraordinaire, Ashton isn’t meant to look for more than a good lay in a girl. He’s turned his back on his criminal past, but he knows that it could catch up with him at any given moment. Sucking a girl into the black hole that is his life is a shit idea and he knows it. Thanks to Jemima, however, for the first time he can see himself with a future that doesn’t involve jail time.

The Language Thing
I’ve been contemplating if I should ever open up about The Language Thing for a long time. And then today I had a short moment of clarity, and I wanted to share it with you guys. This is a revelation that happened when I was standing in front of the mirror (I know! Cliché!) to see if my denim jacket worked with the red pants I was wearing. (It did.)
And for some weird reason I was suddenly so very thankful for how far I’ve been able to go. A few years back, I would have never believed you if you had told me about the situation I’m in.You see, English isn’t my first language. It’s not even a language that was drilled into me early on. English is something I learned. For a while I spent three hours a week studying English in school and that was it. Guys, not too long ago I had no idea what “in retrospective” meant. But I looked up the words I didn’t know. I had to teach myself a lot of things that they don’t tell you about in school. I had no idea that one day I would be writing novels in English.
And now These Things About Us has been downloaded thousands of times. You guys have allowed me to suck you into a story and I’ve received many wonderful emails from you. And I did not get any hate mail about how every freaking sentence in my novel seems to have been written by a 8-year-old who doesn’t know the least bit about grammar.I might not be able to make a living with my writing. I might not be a New York Times bestseller. I might not ever make it big, although I fully intend to try my best, but there have been other great accomplishments for me.
Who would have thought a girl from Germany without fancy education could write novel in English and so many wonderful people would pick it up? I guess however improbable your dream might seem, chase it. It’s worth it!
