This was one of my Esther Day projects that I might give to one of my friends. I might keep it for myself because I like it more than I thought I would.

The Nerdfighters of Israel gathered to cry together at the premiere night of The Fault In Our Stars movie, and took part in the amazing #EstherDay project by the HPA. We calculated the ticket price as if 70 people were coming, but as 88 showed up, we ended up with some money in our hands, which we decided to donate to TSWGO. All in all, I’d say it was a pretty awesome event.

This campaign, just launched today, is being coordinated not by a single organization fighting childhood cancer, but all of us who have. Many organizations, nonprofit groups, and individuals who have made it their personal vendetta to bring awareness and funding to childhood cancer.

I can vouch that my sister’s life was filled with other forms of love. Having a support group to bolster her, having an online community to socialize with, helped Esther to smile and press on. She was one of five siblings, all of us extremely close. (Whereas Hazel is an only child, texting below the dinner table while her parents carry on a conversation.) When John Green promised to make Esther Day videos for my sister’s birthday each year, she asked him to make the day about “family and love.” Esther encouraged us as a family to never hesitate to say “I love you,” to express ourselves honestly, to hug and laugh.”
