Miss New York! Pageants! Supporting TSWGO! Need I say more?

… Well, I yes. I do need to.

Miss New York 2016’s platform is raising money for pediatric cancer research! Jamie Lynn Macchia’s goal is to spread awareness of the need for pediatric cancer research.

“My best friend passed away from leukemia when we were 15. Only 4 percent of government funding for cancer research goes to childhood cancer,” she says.

You can cast one free vote daily on FB until September 10 by posting an original status that includes the name of the state, and ‪#‎MissAmericaVote‬. Here’s an example:

“So happy that Miss New York is supporting Childhood Cancer Research! #MissAmericaVote”

For instructions on how to cast a daily vote on Twitter, check out this link: http://www.missamerica.org/vote/default.aspx

nprhereandnow:

By the time Esther Grace Earl died from thyroid cancer at age 16, she had touched an online community with her video blog, documenting her hopes and fears. She also inspired bestselling young adult author John Green’s novel “The Fault in Our Stars.” A movie based on the book came out on Friday.

Esther’s parents, Lori and Wayne Earl, saw the new movie and think it captured Esther’s message. Wayne Earl says:

“I was with Esther when we thought we were gonna lose her, and I remember being in the hospital and thinking, you know, she’s bleeding from the lungs and she’s gonna die, and the nurses don’t seem to be overwhelmed by this, and I’m sobbing, and I’m with Esther, and she told me, ‘Daddy, I don’t want you to be sad, you know, when I die.’ And I said, ‘I can’t promise that. She said, 'But you’ve got to promise me you’re gonna go on.’ I said, 'I absolutely will, because you’ve modeled that for me.’ You know, you see that portrayed, and I just – you know, all she ever wanted to do was make a difference and have a boyfriend and kiss him without poisoning him with the chemo. She just wanted to love somebody, and I think the message of the movie and the book and her life are the same: that if you have one person to love, if one person loves you, then that’s got to be enough.”

See the interview with Esther’s parents here and read an excerpt of “This Star Won’t Go Out: The Life & Words of Esther Grace Earl” here.

I’m happy to share this recently...

audreybenjaminsen:

I’m happy to share this recently commissioned portrait of Miss. Esther Earl!

It was a pleasure working with her parents on this special gift for John Green, and I’m honored to help keep her star burning! :)

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Esther’s story, as well as being an exceptional young lady in her own right, she was also a huge inspiration for John Green’s The Fault in out Stars.

If you are interested, please check out the “This Star Wont Go Out Foundation”, a non-profit foundation headed my Esther’s parents, Lori and Wayne. They continue to serve families with children diagnosed with life-threatening cancer in Esther’s honor. There you can read more about her life and legacy!

We love Esther!

Wishing everyone the best this spring!

Our Throwback Thursday today is to the incredible singalong of Bohemian Rhapsody that happened after it became Esther Day at LeakyCon 2014! What a special night with special people.

Also make sure to check out the live crowd viewing of our Esther Day video, which culminated with the confetti shower you see above.

See you at GeekyCon 2015!
