#1! Yay!

Einstein Must Die! hit #1 on Amazon’s Sci-Fi/Steampunk category! Thanks to everyone who gave it a try! I’m looking forward to hearing what you thought in the reviews.

Interested in self publishing?

Me too! And why not? At no other time in history has it been so easily possible to share your work with the world.

Today, with some focused time and energy, you can publish a novel and make money from it, all without banging against the traditional gatekeepers of yore. Now gatekeepers have their benefits. When everyone can self publish, there will inevitably be a sizable percentage of stuff that’s not ready for prime time. Editors, agents and publishers have served as a strong filter, only letting what they deem worthy see the light of day. But how many great books never found their audience simply because the machinery of publishing ignored them?

I love the fact that the internet and systems like Amazon level the playing field, letting someone like me set aside computer programming and try my hand at creating worlds. It’s not a perfect meritocracy, but it’s as close as I can imagine. Even if you do manage to produce a great book, you still have to market it or no one will ever hear about it. Which brings me to these guys: http://selfpublishingpodcast.com

They’re writers and self-marketers in this fun, nervy, wild-west maelstrom we call self publishing. I love their approach, as it’s very entrepreneurial which isn’t something you see in creative types often. I’ve spent a few days working my way through their back catalog of podcasts, and they’re awesome. Insightful, irreverent, and riddled with the sense that they’re putting their ideas to work for themselves.

Good stuff, check them out!
