Warrior’s Revenge by Coreene Callahan
I’ve limited myself to Historical Romance for the next few weeks while I finish up Book Three of my MacKay’s Series. Reading outside of the genre I’m working on has become distracting.
This week’s pick for Book Trailer Wednesday is Warrior’s Revenge. This was placed on my to read list a few weeks ago after finding the book trailer on YouTube.

Synopsis:
Sometimes the only way to love and redemption is to make a deal with the devil.
After the death of her parents, Lady Aurora de Marquise is left with no illusions and little faith. Stripped of her birthright and betrayed by her uncle, escape is her only option. With her life on the line, she narrowly avoids another murder attempt—only to run headlong into Lord Brigham de Mornay, a man most consider a monster.
With her uncle’s henchmen nipping at her heels, Aurora knows better than to trust a stranger—especially one as compelling as Brigham. Well-honed instincts urge her to flee before his abundant charm takes a nasty turn into aggression—and she ends up neck deep in trouble.
But when her uncle manages to track her, the game of fox and hound takes a perilous turn and she is left with the ultimate choice—risk everything trying to escape again or trust Brigham to keep her safe.
Set in northern England near the Scottish border, Warrior’s Revenge is a gritty, fast-paced medieval romance in which second chances are possible, and true love lies just a heartbeat away.
My Thoughts:
This is the first story I’ve read by this author, but I was impressed. This book was excellent from start to finish. I managed to read it in about a day and a half and enjoyed every minute.
Aurora – The heroine’s nickname is Rory. She loves horses and her lady’s maid is actually a man. She is strong and stubborn, a true fighter. Her secret longing is to be loved.
Brigham – A local Baron who has a bad reputation. He’s known as a monster by those who don’t know him, but beloved by those who follow him.
It had great character development and interaction. The chemistry between the Aurora and Brigham was sizzling hot. The dialogue was entertaining and the characters were actually likeable. I loved the way the scenes came to life with the author’s vivid details.
Favorite Character: My favorite character in this one was Brigham. I liked the way the author portrayed him. He was strong and commanding, but yet protective of those under his care. It was entertaining to see him win most of his arguments with Rory by seduction.
The only flaw I could find in the entire book was a few misplaced phrases, but I loved the story so much I easily ignored it. I do have to say I’m glad I was able to get the story in its entirety instead of the Kindle Serial version. Waiting for each chapter would’ve driven me crazy.
I’m looking forward to reading more by this author. The Kindle price right now is $1.99, which is a steal for a 434 page novel. Highly recommend. I give it 4.5 hearts.

Dark Persuasion by Vicki Hopkins
I picked this from my list of book trailers I have watched and enjoyed. The story line enticed me enough to buy the book. I especially found myself drawn to the blind twist.

Synopsis:
Set in 1890 Victorian England, Dark Persuasion tells a romantic story of regret, restitution, forgiveness, and redemption. It is a triangle of deceit and love fueled by emotions of selfish pursuit, guilt, and surrender among three people who are prisoners of their past.
Patrick Rochester wins Charlotte Gray’s hand in marriage, but he is haunted with grief and guilt. When his blind wife finally loves and completely trusts him, the revelation of his identity threatens to destroy their life together. In the end, Charlotte learns that love can be blind for everyone–even her.
My Thoughts:
I have to admit I really didn’t like this book at first. The beginning seemed to drag out and I had a hard time liking the main character. I stuck with it, and do not regret my choice. Hopkins created a world and characters with her words that made you feel like you stood in the books pages.
Charlotte – Charlotte’s behavior and cruelty to the hero seemed off to me. Her constant bitterness made me want to slap her. Instead of enjoying what life gave her and the beauty that surrounded her, she constantly placed herself in the dark world she so morosely complained about.
While my opinion of the heroine didn’t change much, I really enjoyed getting to know the hero. Patrick was sweet and sexy which, unfortunately, made me dislike Charlotte even more.
The author did an excellent job with character development and description. I could even get a sense of the fear Charlotte felt living in the world of darkness. The author’s ability to portray the three main characters from multiple angles left me enthralled.
In the end, Charlotte redeemed herself in my eyes by opening her own a bit to the horrifying world that others lived in. While I didn’t care for the heroine, the story was well written. Though, it held a lot of dark undertones, in the end I enjoyed this tale. I would not mind reading other stories by this author. I give it 4 hearts.

The Brooding Beauty by Jillian Eaton
I’ve developed a list of books trailers, introduced to me during my normal social media interaction. I will continue to add to this list daily as I find more resources. Every week, I will choose a book from one of the categories on that list, and review it.
This week’s pick I found on Goodreads. The book trailer had the feel of an old home movie. That, simplicity is what attracted me to it. The Brooding Beauty is a shorter story, around 66 pages, instead of the typical novels I usually read. For me, short stories are always great for that quick afternoon read when you just need a small breather from life.

Synopsis:
What happens after happily ever after?
The marriage of Lady Catherine Nettle and Marcus Windfair, the 7th Duke of Kensington, was declared the affair of the Season. They seemed perfect for each other… until they weren’t.
Now after three years of separation Catherine wants a divorce. She can no longer remain married to a man who does not return her love and is willing to do whatever it takes – including following Marcus to the secluded cottage in the highlands where they spent their honeymoon – to get what she wants.
Marcus can no longer trusts his wife after what happened three years ago, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t love her. Refusing her ridiculous request for a divorce, he escapes to Woodsgate, confidant his wife will not follow him into the wilds of Scotland. Unfortunately for the Duke, this is one bet he is bound to lose.
Forced together, husband and wife reach an unusual compromise: Catherine agrees to sleep with her husband for two months, after which time Marcus will grant her a divorce. It is the perfect solution for two people who claim to no longer love each other… or is it?
My Thoughts:
Their own stubborn foolishness costs them so much heartache. A willingness to believe the lies of other’s instead of asking the one person they should trust. I enjoyed this short read. The characters developed quickly, with a full emotional spectrum, that touched the heart. If I had to find one complaint, it could only be that it was short. I loved the storyline so much, I wanted to read more about their relationship.
Favorite Line: “I would welcome the life of a pauper,” he whispered achingly. “If it meant I could spend just one more night in your arms.”
A wonderful love story with passionate and tender moments shared between a husband and wife. Her style of writing was refreshing as she brought each character to life. I would not hesitate to buy another book by this author. Lucky for us, all four books are available on Amazon for only $0.99 each or you can buy the complete set for $2.99. I give it 4.5 hearts.

Eternal Flame by Valerie Twombly
I found this book trailer a few months back on a blog of another author I follow. I placed the book on my to read list because the trailer peaked my interest in the story.

Synopsis:
A woman he cannot have, a man who is only a dream…
When guardian Marcus Dagotto, discovers the gods have gifted him with a mate, he is pissed. He has no room for love and even less for a human who has no idea he exists.
Cassandra Jensen, has a shattered heart and has given up on men. Only one man can set her body on fire, but he is a fantasy that haunts her sleep.
Two worlds, one desire. When the two collide, fate will rip them apart and test their resolve. Will darkness and evil prevail? Or, will love conquer all?
My Thoughts:
There are some books I read that are so great I want to share every aspect of the story with others and this is one of them. I found myself rewriting my review several times to prevent spoilers. An amazing, well written story with lots going on.
Marcus – Best friend to the king he held the position of second in command. His true calling was as a healer to his race. A good man, who lost too much in his long life.
Cassie – A human nurse, who is haunted by dreams of a man that can’t possibly exist. When it comes to love, past wounds feed her insecurities.
This book has a bit of everything desired in a paranormal read. The blend of demons and dragons throw new facets of intrigue into the mix, especially when a war between dragons and vampires is declared. Let’s not forget Gods and their games, intricate realm builds and crude protagonists. Though the idea of vampires being the protectors of mankind is not a new one I thoroughly enjoyed the author’s new twist on this old concept.
Fast paced with multiple plot twists, well rounded likable characters and great action scenes. You add the humor with a bit of steam and you end up with a great read. There are several secondary characters I’d like to see again in their own story. Hello Baal…
I’m looking forward to more books from this series and I will definitely pick up other stories from the author. According to her website, Book Two: Fatal Desire is set to be released in March. I give this book 5 hearts. Excellent job.
