I’m so pleased to present the OFFICIAL Cover Reveal for BAYOU BECKONS ~ Release date June 3rd.
PRE-ORDER is ready NOW
Amazon Bayou Beckons http://amzn.com/B00X8TG7Q6
Let me introduce you to Camilla Lind and Jared Richardson.
Party-girl and bayou babe Camilla Lind treats life like a game. After sleeping with her sister’s fiancé, she’s struggling to change, but karmic payback is a bitch. When the actions of her past crash into the present, they stand to ruin her future…and destroy any chance of love with the only man she’s ever wanted.
Rancher Jared Richardson guards his heart carefully after suffering the pain of infidelity. He never expected to fall for a woman like Camilla Lind, nor did he think he’d follow her across the country to beg for a second chance at love.
As Hurricane Katrina bears down on them, can they weather the storm and put aside past hurts to embrace their future together?
This book is dedicated to the people of the Gulf Coast who lost their lives, to those who survived, and those who continue to thrive ten years after Hurricane Katrina—southerners of sturdy stock who know there’s no place like home.

Peek inside the mind of…
Let me introduce the ever creative Cecilia Dominic. Creative? you ask. Aren’t all fiction writers creative? Yes, that’s true, however, Cecilia’s writing captivates me in a way that other books of her genre don’t. Be sure and read all the way through, you won’t want to miss the GIVEAWAY.
Taking a peek into the life of her character is taking a peek into Cecilia’s rich imaginative world.
Please meet Cecilia Dominic, and her character, Karen Hardeman:
Thank you so much for having me, Linda! This was fun to write. I think I’d like having Karen as a client. I based this on the published character interviews I do on my blog at www.ceciliadominic.com.
Disclaimer: I’m a psychologist and used my experiences to develop the following scenario. Please keep in mind that every first session is different.
Karen, a somewhat gawky girl, walks into my office. Keeping her head up and shoulders back looks like an effort, and she scoots toward my couch like it’s a sanctuary. She folds her hands in her lap, but she keeps switching which thumb is on top. We make some small talk, and then I ask:
“So, Karen, what brings you in today?”
She takes a deep breath. “Well, I’ve finally left my old life behind, but the past came back to bite me. Right here.” She points to her rear end and slumps backward, pulling a pillow to her lap. “I finally got the guts to move out of the apartment I shared with my jerk of an ex, and I found out he knows and has talked to the head of my program.”
She blinks and grabs for a tissue but holds it instead of dabbing her eyes.
I ask, “What program is that?”
Now she smiles briefly before disappointment veils her face. “The Masters of Fine Arts program in genre fiction at Foothills University. I’ve always wanted to be a writer, but I took the responsible path, got a real job, etcetera. Plus I was supporting him, my ex, as he got his writing career going. He started doing well, so I thought it was my turn.”
“To become a writer?”
“Yeah, but there was always an excuse and reasons why I’m not cut out to write, like my voice isn’t strong enough. Stuff I could learn, y’know, if given the chance.” Her mouth twists – her past frustrations still taste bitter. “But I never was. So I left. And here I am. And my professor is friends with him and will hate me and…” She sniffles and blows her nose, but she still doesn’t let the tears come.
“So it sounds like you don’t trust the professor to act in a professional manner.”
“I don’t know if it’s her. She seems okay. I’m just afraid he’s right about me, that I don’t have what it takes. And there’s this guy in my class.”
“Oh?”
She lets a smile slip through and puts the pillow aside.
“He annoys me. Sort of. He’s not bad-looking. But he’s not the one I’m interested in. I met this other guy on a speed date…”
I listen but steer her back to talking about the guy in her program, wondering if he might be a potential source of social support.
“His name is Seth. He hasn’t read anything in class. I don’t even know if he’s writing. He’s nice, though.” She shrugs. “But even if I was interested, which I’m not, there’s no way it would work. We’re going to be in classes together for two years. What if it didn’t work out? Awkward. Plus I’m not ready for a relationship.”
I make a note to keep track of what happens with the guy in the class because she seems animated while talking about him, more so than about the speed date guy. We schedule another appointment for the following week.
How far will she go to find her perfect man? How far will he go to be one?
When Karen Hardeman sets foot on the Foothills University campus, it’s her first step toward proving her abusive ex wrong. Just her luck, her first writing assignment in Intro to Romance sends her in search of the perfect hero—a quest she’s never managed to conquer.
Worse, her professor forces her to collaborate with the most overconfident, annoying guy in the class.
Seth Sayers is also at Foothills to find new direction—preferably one that takes him far away from the family drama that’s followed him since his father’s death. He didn’t mean to humiliate Karen by rewriting her manuscript from the hero’s point of view. He blames the painkillers the ER doctor gave him after stitching up a wine-induced cut on his hand.
As their collaboration progresses, Karen begins to trust Seth with her manuscript, then maybe a little piece of her heart. But Seth’s half-brother resurrects Seth’s suspicions about his father’s death. Until he finds the truth, he can’t be the hero in anyone’s life. Even his own.
Warning: Some alcohol consumption. Okay, writer amounts of alcohol consumption. There are also some adult situations, but nothing too explicit. It is a romance-writing class, after all.
A Perfect Man will be released May 12 from Samhain Publishing.

Want to know more about Cecilia Dominic? She became a clinical psychologist because she’s fascinated by people and their stories, but she couldn’t stop writing fiction. By day, she helps people cure their insomnia without using medication. By night, she blogs about wine and writes fiction that keeps her readers turning pages past bedtime. Yes, she recognizes the conflict of interest between her two careers, so she writes and blogs under a pen name. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia with one husband and two cats, which, she’s been told, is a good number of each. She has been published in short story and novel-length fiction and currently writes urban fantasy, new adult contemporary, and steampunk for Samhain Publishing.

Summer Love, Summer Nights, & the Southwark Saga
I can only dream of traveling to London, however, through books, I am able to travel anywhere! London is next on the list!

Jessica Cale’s Favorite Places in London
I am so happy to be here today to talk to you about my favorite city in the world. My new series, The Southwark Saga, is set in seventeenth century London and Southwark, which was an independent village on the other side of the Thames at the time.
You might be thinking that’s a weirdly specific setting for an author from Minnesota, but I went to university in Wales and ended up living there for nearly ten years. Wales is absolutely beautiful and I loved it. I could get to London in about three hours from where I was living, and me and my now husband, John, went about as often as we could. John grew up in south London and he knows it so well that he has a Tube map imprinted in his brain (he seriously never has to look at a map), and I got to know it pretty well, too.
London is colossal and it’s home to more than twelve million people. There’s enough to see and do to keep you well occupied for the rest of your life, but here are a few of my favorites to get you started:
The Museum of London: A peek at the city in every period of its history through fascinating artifacts of every size and age, from ancient hairpins to a complete seventeenth century bedroom. Most of the Cheapside Hoard is kept here so prepare to be dazzled by Elizabethan jewels. This is my favorite museum anywhere.
The Victoria and Albert Museum: Coming in at a close second, the V&A is home to textiles, furniture, sculpture, and decorative art from the middle ages to the present. There’s a room of seventeenth century furniture in the basement that should not be missed, though the post-plague death imagery might linger in your nightmares. See real eighteenth century and Regency dresses, buy a fashion history book or two from their gift shop, and be sure to have tea in their phenomenal tea room.
Westminster Abbey: This beautiful medieval abbey is right next to the Houses of Parliament, so you have no excuse to miss it, and you wouldn’t want to: most of the British monarchy from the eleventh century to present is buried inside. I actually walked over one of my ancestors a few times as I was looking for him; his twelfth century tombstone had been worn almost completely smooth over time. (Hi, Grandpa…)
Hyde Park and Tyburn: The serenity of this huge, oddly calm park in the heart of London might be ruined for you when you find out there’s a plague pit beneath it so big that they couldn’t built a Tube tunnel through it. In the northeast corner near the Marble Arch is where the Tyburn Gallows stood from the twelfth century until the end of the eighteenth when they were moved to Newgate. There’s a small plaque in the pavement marking the approximate location. You can read all about it in the first book of The Southwark Saga, Tyburn.
Trafalgar Square: Trafalgar Square is a good central place to pause and get yourself used to where everything is. The square itself is home to Nelson’s Column (you really can’t miss it), The National Gallery, and the National Portrait Gallery, two of my favorite museums. From there you can see The Houses of Parliament and the London Eye, with Downing Street and Horse Guards Parade on the way. Down Pall Mall is Buckingham Palace. Off to the side is a small monument to Oscar Wilde that I love. It has his quote: “We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.”
Thank you for reading!

What’s blooming?
Greetings!
This is the official welcome to Linda Joyce Contemplates.
Mostly it’s about books. The physical book. The eBook. The story about the inspiration for a book. Sometimes, it’s a peek behind the curtain at an authors life or their writing process. Soon, I’ll be hosting a plethora of authors and bringing their books to you.
So many new things happening and I don’t want either of us to miss a thing! After all, it’s spring and things are blooming everywhere, including in my writing world.

I’m so excited for you to meet Camilla and Jared. Their story begins in Jackson, Wyoming and their journey takes them to Bayou Petite, Mississippi the day before Hurricane Katrina strikes the Gulf coast and destroys life for many. Will they weather their personal storm? Will they survive the hurricane? Stay tuned to find out.
Write these dates down. May 18-24. Then go to InD’tale Magazine and vote for Bayou Bound. It’s a 2015 RONE Award Nominee. Help me move to the finals by voting. I’d so appreciate your help. Sign up is FREE and the magazine doesn’t cost a thing!

Moving Soon
Greetings!
What’s on Your Bookshelf?
Recently, on Facebook, there was a post about a quote from Holbrook Jackson, “Your library is your portrait.” I asked friends to post 10 titles. I, of course, did the same. In no particular order:
Prince of Tides, Pat Conroy
A Duke of Her Own, Eloisa James
I’ll Be Home For Christmas, Julie L. Cannon
Traces, Betty Bolte
A Risk Worth Taking, Melissa Klein
The Power Within You, Louise Hay
Men, Women, and Relationships, Dr. John Grey
Sacred Contracts, Caroline Myss
Secrets from a Creativity Coach, Romeny Qualline Nesbitt
Wired for Story, Lisa Cron
I have hundreds of books, but these grabbed my attention first. What do you think it says about me?
My booklist contains one by Julie L. Cannon. She was a lovely, gracious, endearing woman who critiqued a manuscript of mine at the Southeastern Writer’s Association workshop. She has since passed away. Her book, I’ll Be Home for Christmas, is one I’m going to start rereading now. Julie told me one thing about being an author back in 2011–I hadn’t yet been published in fiction yet–she said, “Writers write. Author’s speak.”
I’m going to start speaking again. I’ve presented programs at national conferences and workshops before. I’ve shied away from it for a while. In 2015, I’m seeking opportunities to speak, not only about writing, but also about self empowerment.
And so, I ask you very gently, when you’re speaking or writing to others, even if it’s an email, text, comments on social media, please take care in the words you select. Please let your words truly represent you, your heart, and your core values.
And if you don’t agree with my blog posts, I’m happy to hear your opinions because I believe dialog is a way to come to the middle and find a greater understanding about each other, find some common ground. However, please do not stoop to name-calling and expect me to approve your comments on my blog. “You can’t write bitch. Take my class.” is a comment I will never approve on my blog. It was left for a guest blogger, and I won’t stand for that.
Now, about moving. In 2015, I’m revamping my website www.linda-joyce.com The blog will become a part of my website and this URL of lindajoycecontemplates will disappear into the ether.
As some point in 2015, I’ll stop paying for the url for this blog…who knows what will happen then, but you’ll find me blogging on my website. I’ll be speaking out and seeking to help us empower ourselves to live in a better world.
Happy Reading!

Have you seen the Man in the Moon?
A fresh face in children’s fiction: Kelly Silverman.
She’s a fascinating woman. Author. Screen Writer. Film Producer. Wife…and new mother.
Please meet Kelly Silverman.
Memories Are Stories: Why I Read To My Baby
My daughter Evelyn is eleven months old. My husband, David, and I have been reading to her since before she was born, before we even knew whether she was an Evelyn or a Michael.
In the beginning, it felt as if David and I were the only ones getting anything from the experience: the times when I was reading Gone Girl out loud to my belly; the times we read Good Night Moon to our tiny newborn whose eyes stared off into the vastness of this great big world. I absolutely love those memories, but they are mine and David’s, not Evie’s.
Today, we know exactly why reading is not only one of the most important things you can do with your child, but one of the most special: it creates memories. Every night before we go to bed, Evie has two stories she must hear before she can sleep. It’s as much a part of our routine, our ritual, as a goodnight kiss and saying ‘I love you.”
I now see we are forging memories with Evie every time we read to her. Every time she picks up a book on her own and starts turning the pages. Every time she lights up when we get to a part of the story she loves. We are making memories through stories.
Looking at baby Evie reminds me of the joy I felt when I had a book in my hand and a story in my heart. Books made me want to be a writer. They’ve affected every one of my beliefs and shaped me into the person I am today. They’ve inspired, angered and moved me, and it amazes me to know they have the power to do that for my daughter as well.
I can’t wait to hear her read her first book, or tell her first story. I can’t wait for that moment when she picks out her first book at the library. My heart melts thinking how excited she’ll get when she describes her favorite stories to me.
I’ve written in many different mediums: screenplays, plays, young adult novels. After I had Evie, though, I knew I wanted to write children’s stories, which is why I created Evie and Knox Stories (with the talented Erin Wicker known professionally as erin the great).
It’s contemplating those “firsts” that make writing for children so special. When children fall in love with books, they do so with their whole-hearts. They become friends with the characters. They read a story and study the pictures over and over until that book becomes a part of their childhood.
Stories impact us at every stage of our lives, and it all begins with the first book someone reads to us. My hope is that Man in the Moon will be some child’s first story, and perhaps even part of a loving goodnight ritual.
“A whisper and a good night kiss. Sweet dreams for you, is what I wish!” – Man in the Moon
Kelly Young-Silverman Bio:Kelly is a Midwest girl living in the South who loves to tell stories. Her work ranges from screenplays and stage plays to children stories and young adult novels.
In 2009, Kelly co-founded Cakebaby Productions with her husband, actor/filmmaker, David Marshall Silverman. Through Cakebaby, Kelly and David have written, directed and produced several award-winning short films, and have had their worked screened nationally at prestigious festivals.
Kelly’s experience is eclectic to say the least: education, advertising, theatre, film and (most recently!) motherhood. Man in the Moon is the first book in a series of nighttime stories by Kelly and illustrator Erin Wicker. It is set to be released today, 11/11/2014!

French French Toast for the Weekend!
Greetings!
So many of you loved Karen’s brownie recipe made in her George Foreman Grill from an earlier post, so I asked her for more yummy food–Grill-style.
Here’s Karen’s take on a breakfast favorite: French Toast.
Hi everyone, I’ve been invited back to share another recipe with you. I was happy to see how well-received my brownie recipe was, it has long been a family favorite! I found out that many of you use your George Foreman Grill on the go while in your RV. That is a great idea and I learned something new!
It’s the weekend, so that means big breakfast! One of my family’s favorite breakfasts is what we loving call French French Toast. It is baked and since using the oven here in Seoul, South Korea is expensive, I’ve turned again to my ever-trusty George Foreman grill. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
Pan of French Toast
3 eggs
2/3 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
4 tablespoons butter
6 to 8 slices French or Italian Bread, 1-inch thick, cut on the diagonal
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Beat eggs, milk and vanilla; pour into a shallow plate large enough to hold all the bread in one layer.
[image error]Make sure your bread fits into the pan you want to use before you soak it in the egg. That way you won’t have eggy toast that will not fit!
Soak bread for 2 minutes.
Turn and continue to soak bread until all egg mixture is absorbed.
While bread is absorbing the egg mixture, place butter into a 13×9-inch pan and melt it in the oven.
When the butter is melted, add bread in one layer and bake for 15 minutes.
Turn and continue to bake for an additional 10 minutes more.
Note: If you are using your George Foreman Grill, you may need to adjust the temperature and time to cook to your taste; because the grill is smaller than the inside of an oven, the toast gets darker than you may like. Also, eight slices of bread do fit into the deep-dish attachment – it is just a snug fit!
Serve with Buttery Pecan Syrup
Buttery Pecan Syrup
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1/4 cup light corn syrup
3 tablespoons water
1/4 vanilla
Pinch of salt
1 tablespoon butter
1/4 cup finely chopped pecans
In a saucepan, combine brown sugar, corn syrup and water. Bring to a rolling boil; boil continuously for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat, stir in salt, butter and vanilla. When butter is melted, stir in pecans. Serve with your Pan of French Toast.
Note: This syrup keeps well refrigerated and reheated as needed.
I hope you’ll give Karen’s recipe a try and tell us how you like it.

Friday with Friends: An American Abroad–exciting journey!
I really love connecting with people. I love the stories of their lives. Everyone is interesting to me, and I have never failed in finding some common connection with anyone. A love of good food is a good bonding moment.
I’ve become more active on Twitter (@LJWriter) and through it, I’ve reached people all over the world.
Including Karen from Twitter @AwesomeMartiniG . Who’s now in Korea. She’s sharing about her journey.
Seoul, South Korea
Hello everyone, I’m coming to you from Seoul, South Korea; working for the United States Army.
This is the view from my kitchen!
We are living in a high-rise apartment overlooking the Han River. Seoul is beautiful and we are enjoying it very much. Cooking here is a challenge due to the differences in power between the US and here. I have a gas range and an electric oven. Electricity is expensive here so I do not use my oven often so we have a George Foreman Grill that I use in place of the oven.
It works pretty well!
I have been asked to share my favorite chocolate comfort food with you.
I have shared this recipe with family and friends. It is an all-time favorite. I found the recipe on the back of a bag of chocolate chips almost 30 years ago and as you can see, it is very well loved! It is super easy and once you try it, you will never by a box mix again! I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
Double Chocolate Brownies

Karen’s Ingredients
The ingredients list:
3/4 Cup Flour
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup butter or margarine (I use Butter Flavored Crisco)
2 tablespoons water
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
1 – 12 ounce package semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a small bowl combine flour, baking soda and salt, set aside.
In a small saucepan combine sugar, butter and water over medium heat. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally, until sugar melts. Remove from heat and add ½ bag (1 cup) chocolate chips. Stir until smooth.
Remove chocolate mixture to a bowl and add vanilla. Beat in eggs one at a time quickly so the eggs do not cook. Stir in flour mixture remaining ½ bag chocolate chips and nuts if used.
Spread into a greased 9” square pan, or into the deep-dish attachment on your George Foreman Grill.
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until toothpick inserted comes out clean. Allow to cool 10 to 15 minutes before cutting.
Brownies!
These are great warm with a cold glass of milk!
Have you ever cooked brownies or other goodies like this? Let us know. Share a recipe with us!
Thank you Karen for expanding our world and showing us how ingenuity and creativity create a wonderful life.
Happiness abounds,
Linda Joyce
