iono if this is what you meant by angsty arranged marriage au but here you go

a/n: giveaway prize. thanks for following! :)
There are many things Katara despises. In her sixteen years of life, she has seen and heard of enough atrocities to feel a rattling ache in her bones that reverberates in her soul when the world disappoints her again and again. She is not so weak that she cannot make her own happiness, but she would like it much better if she didn’t have to create it, to force smiles to appease a troubled Avatar or a restless brother or a worried father. There is a contentment that comes from helping others, from healing, from bending, from the routine she’s created in the South Pole after the war. She stubbornly clings to that when rumors of uprisings and malcontent circle around flickering campfires on star-pierced nights.
When the Fire Nation’s colonial troubles threaten to drag the world headlong back into warfare, she leaves her routine behind to travel with her new grandfather and her father and her brother to a council of nations, because she did not save the world at fourteen to be relegated to domesticity when the world’s balance nearly topples again.
At the council, much is made of the Fire Lord’s youth and the rumors that he garners advice from his father, who yet lives courtesy of the even younger Avatar’s dubious mercy.

Admitting you have a problem is the first step.

Tomorrow I’ll reveal the first of the HUGE AWESOME EPIC prizes for the Winter Join the Blizzard contest! The prizes up until now have been awesome, yes, but THE BIGGEST AND BEST ARE COMING!

Clues: signed books. ARCs (not mine, sadly, but THREE equally awesome ARCs of 2014 goodness).
BE EXCITED.

SNOW LIKE ASHES Advent: Day 4!
On the fourth day of December, I offer up to youuuuuu:
A heart-shaped snowflake ornament!
(In the greatest twist of fate EVER, this ornament is dead-on how Winter’s locket looks in SNOW LIKE ASHES. Every kingdom has a magic-imbued object that helps their king/queen run the land — Winter’s is a silver, heart-shaped locket with a white snowflake on it. I squealed quite deliriously when I found this ornament in World Market. So here, have a bit of magic for Christmas.
Seriously, guys. WORLD MARKET ROCKS.)
(This is the fourth prize in the SNOW LIKE ASHES Join the Blizzard Giveaway: Advent-Style! Check back tomorrow at 11:30 EST for prize number FIVE, and tune in on December 11 for your chance to win ALL THE PRIZES!)

Recently, Husband and I hosted our first ever Grown Up Wine Party, complete with wine paired with cheese and/or chocolate. I used this as a trial run for some Christmas table setting ideas. Behold, another installment of #SaraCooksChristmas!
The full table setting, in all its glory.
I bought a bundle of fake garland from Michael’s and cut it all up into individual strands, then hooked little squares of paper on them to make signage for the cheeses. Cheap and I felt very accomplished, creative-wise.
I used the remaining garland to make wine glass markers. I’ve seen them for purchase all over the place, but again, CHEAP.
